Darth Milbury 05-18-2004, 11:55 AM I think you guys would be surprised by the support there is for the Bolts around the league. Most fans of other teams (even teams that were beat by the Bolts - like my Isles) are pulling for Tampa. I think the NHL would be a better place, if every team played the kind of fast exciting game that Tampa plays.
Anyway, no disrespect meant to Philly, but I will be rooting for a Tampa cup.
Hawkeye 05-18-2004, 12:03 PM Well said and thanks!
Sotnos 05-18-2004, 04:15 PM Thanks Darth, and best of luck to your Isles next year (when they're not playing Tampa, of course ;)).
joeminus 05-18-2004, 08:58 PM Thanks, Darth.
Hey looks like that luck you gave us paid off tonight! Thanks! :)
exterminator-x 05-19-2004, 12:15 PM Hey, Darth?
Quick question, and I mean this most sincerely. Not a flame or attempt to stir up... just would like to see if your opinion from earlier in the season still stands.
Given Modin's performance this season, especially the last half and including the playoffs, are you still of the opinion that Modin is not equal or better value for Hamrlik?
wdyt?

I think Modin has been great. He has recovered his offensive game, returned to his old physical self, and actually gained a step or two defensively. That hasn't changed my concerns about his injury history and his tendency to follow good seasons with poor seasons. So, if you are asking me if I would move Hamrlik for Modin straight up (contract and $ issues being equal), the answer would still be "no." I'm also of the mindset that a good two-way defensemen is more valuable (at least in terms of the Isles) than a good winger.
Now, that is not to say that the league-wide trade values of the players haven't changed. Modin has an excellent year and Hamrlik had a poor year. Hamrlik is also one year away from UFA status. So, the market values of the players are in a much different situation now then when all those tedious trade rumors first surfaced.
MisterUnspoken 05-20-2004, 10:14 AM Good Luck tonight Bolts, from the Rangers camp.
kick some Philly and Calgary boo-tay!

Eat the grapes, man, don't stint on the sugar. Rangers ... hah
Ah the Rangers fan screwed us with the bad karma, that's why we lost tonight!
Just kidding..
Synthetic 05-20-2004, 11:28 PM This is sincere, you guys, so don't jump on my ass simply because I'm a Philly fan.
The Bolts have been my second favorite team behind Philly for about three years now. The only team I would rather see come out of the East if Philly wouln't make it would be the Bolts. Being beaten by the Bolts in that series (knock on wood) would be easier for me to stomach than had the Bolts been the Sens or the Leafs or the Devs. This series have been great so far, and even though I'm rooting for Philly, I'll throw my allegiances behind Tampa should they win Saturday Night.
jplush76 05-21-2004, 11:29 AM a tampa vs calgary series would be death for the nhl in terms of ratings
aapbolt 05-21-2004, 11:49 AM a calgary -Bolt series may be bad for ratings but would be great for hockey. The purists should love the type of hockey that is played. It will show people how hockey is meant to be played- wide-open with great defense. it would be fun. although if philly gets in it will be very interesting becasue the flames play like us. in the long term a flames-bolts series would be good for hockey all over because it would highlight small market franchises and show the depth of hockey and that any team has a chance to go to the Stanley Cup finals. Long term it will only benefit the growth of hockey fans in many markets.

I disagree. Yeah, Tampa and Calgary aren't big markets. But, those are two of the most exciting young teams in hockey. A Tampa/Calgary series would be a lot of fun to watch, and it would get fans interested.
Flycoon* 05-21-2004, 03:19 PM a tampa vs calgary series would be death for the nhl in terms of ratings
Would make no difference. The ratings suck and ABC/ESPN has made it as unwatchable as possible with the camera on a string and all of the ridiculous close ups that destroy visual perspective of the game. New fans will never be made from one of these telecasts.

You mean those HUGE ratings they'd otherwise get? Please.
The Finals would probably get something like a 3.4 rating with Philly in there, and probably something like a 3.2 with Tampa. Both ratings suck horribly, so what's the difference?
HughJass* 05-22-2004, 07:52 PM I disagree. Yeah, Tampa and Calgary aren't big markets. But, those are two of the most exciting young teams in hockey. A Tampa/Calgary series would be a lot of fun to watch, and it would get fans interested.
Agreed. I haven't vistited these boards much lately, but I knew a silly statement like "Tampa/Calgary bad for the NHL" would pop up. If you are a fan of hockey then this is a great series for the NHL. Canada gets a team in, and the other team happens to be arguably the most exciting team in NHL. This will be a fantastic series.
Good luck, Tampa, I was a bit scared there when you guys choked in Game 6. :lol
EDIT: Damn, people, stop talking about the friggin' ratings. Are you fans of hockey or what? Why do everyone give a damn about ratings? You a big wig tv exec? :lol

Time for you guys to prove it.
All odds are on this being the lowest rated SCF series in the history of TV ratings in the US.

Who cares. NHL gets so litle revenue from national television contracts it means nothing.
This final series is demonstrates that small payroll teams that are properly managed can be successful. 19th ranked vs 21st ranked payrolls. The Ranger/Flyer method of throwing cash down a sewer on overpaid, over the hill players just doesn't work. You can bet this will be used in the CBA negotiations.
