Praline 05-18-2004, 01:33 AM Start again
Let's keep this one focused on the hockey.
I've been away for a couple days, is Pitkanen out from that Taylor hit? If so what will the PHI defensive pairs look like? Kapanen to play D?
Any status on Lukowich coming back, or will Neckar remain?
Anytime the Lightning gain some momentum, Primeau goes out and throws two or three hits and effectively shifts the momentum back to Philly. Any thoughts on how to counter this?
Just to get things started...

Well, he didn't practice with the team, but it wasn't expected that he would. It'll come down to a game-day decision, most likely during the pre-game skate. The Flyers' options are Seidenberg, who also sports a nice shot but is coming off soft after a nasty broken leg, and John Slaney, a career AHL defenseman who has a bit of callup experience. Kapanen has been playing on D and will continue to in Ragnarsson's absense.

Not much can be said about momentum in the conference finals this year. Neither series is seeing much from it and this one has been swinging pretty well with teams taking turns winning.

petec1978* 05-18-2004, 08:44 AM In the interview with Culli I heard this morning, the tone of his voice indicated to me that if the team is facing elimination in game 6 or 7, he may try to come back.

Amen.
 Thank you, Hockey Gods.
Lapdog saying something about JR's current 'concussion'...and while I wouldn't doubt it, I don't trust him either.

I heard he waqs throwing up on the FLyers Bench during the game.

Yeah, well he's pretty stupid if he plays with a concussion, especially since he has already had 9 documented concussions in his career. :banghead:

What are you talking about? He only has 3 documented concussions? He has said he's had 9, but he was able to play through 6. Now i am not doubting his truthfulness, but if he was still able to play thru them they couldnt have been too substantial.
TB_FANATIC 05-19-2004, 11:50 PM Concussions are probably the only injuries that don't heal in sports. They get worse after each one. It really doesn't matter how serious it was, with each concussion the chances of having another exponentially multiply over time, and so does the severity. It will get to the point where he can't sneeze without having a spazmadic episode. I don't want that to happen to anyone...
see Ali, Muhammed.

It may not be wise to play with a concussion but you have to admire his heart and passion.

I do, personally. And I hate to say it because my fellow fans will probably kill me, but I really like JR & his straightforward ways. I like very few players who aren't Bolts or ex-Bolts, so that's saying something. :)
I am also one of those strange people that cares about the health and quality of life of the players that I like, and I really wonder if JR is doing the best thing for himself. I'm betting that NOTHING would make him sit at this point, but I hope he's not making anything worse. He doesn't look very well to me, better than when he first came back, but still just doesn't look good.
There's a lot of good and bad to JR and we've seen more good this season. I liked his apology to the ref at the All-Star Game and he's gone through a lot and has shown a more jovial demeanor on and off the ice this year in spite of it. Still, it's hard to forget about his hit on Modano and other things like that, so I'm still ambivalent on him.
joeminus 05-20-2004, 08:32 AM Agreed, Hoek. There are times when I think J.R.'s a credit to the game, and there are others when I think he's an obnoxious attention monger. Right now I just think he's a shadow of his former self, and he might be better off hanging up the skates before the damage can't be undone. I admire his heart; I question his brain.
aapbolt 05-20-2004, 10:27 AM I agree joe, JR is getting better with age but you do not really hel from a concussion and he has kids to worry about. I repsect his heart but also question his brains in this regard. I really feel for the guy because I know how much he wants to hoist the cup- just like Andy for us. By the way did anyone notice that Philly was booing everytime we got a power play the last time we played at philly? talk about a bunch of copycats. Plus, hitch is over the edge in knocking Torts because he is italian that is really stupid and makes me wonder about his sanity.

Just in case you haven't watched any other playoff hockey...they boo the other teams PP in almost every building.
Oceanic39* 05-20-2004, 11:39 AM Almost.
Tampa fans were ripped on in both the NYI and Montreal series for continually booing during a PK.
It caught my attention because of the criticism. I find absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Ripped by whom the fans or media? To me it shows that the fans are in the game and are trying to help the team in any possible fashion.
Oceanic39* 05-20-2004, 12:46 PM Fans and a little of the media. I believe the Montreal columnist Jack Todd mentioned it in one of his multiple cut-down sessions on TB fans.
Fans on the NHL boards here were cricitizing TB fans for all the booing during the PK.
gottaluvdabolts 05-20-2004, 01:49 PM I was at the game that started it. it was against NJ. A penalty that was called was a very bad call. It was sort of spontaneous that the boos started when ever the Devils had the puck, and the cheers came on when ever the Lightning cleared the zone or touched the puck. It was pretty funny, but the players responded and even mentioned it it in post game interviews that it was pretty cool. So I am not surprised that it kinda stuck.
Jack Todd and others just like to be critical and really need to get over themselves. it is not like we were doing the wave or anything. GagsIsDaMan said it best. just trying to encourage the team. when 20,000 people all cheer or boo, it is pretty loud and impressive. when it switches back and forth depending on who has the puck, it is even more impressive.

Well I am one fan who will applaud TB for doing it.
JOHNBOY 05-20-2004, 03:17 PM Well I am one fan who will applaud TB for doing it.
Me too. The fans are just expressing their emotion towards the opposing teams PP.
Gags1288 05-21-2004, 12:14 AM I don't know what your talking about copying, the flyers fans have been doing it pretty much all season. It started when Brashear was called for a 4 minute high stick in a game against dallas where I believe it was sydor who was high sticked by his own player. It has continued since that time.
aapbolt 05-21-2004, 07:43 AM hey Gags, I did not know about that in terms of Brashear nor that philly fans had been doing it for some time. Ours did start at the NJ game late in the season, I was also there and it really added to the atmosphere. It seems to have snowballed throughout the rest of the season and the playoffs. We seem to get the short end of the stick early on from the refs when it hurts us the most and then they make it up later when it does not matter. But every fan has their dislike of the refs and how they sometimes call games.

I'm sure some fans somewhere started booing during PKs before the Flyers did *this* year.
FYI: Sydor played for the BlueJackets this year, not Dallas.
I am stunned, though, to hear a penalty was called on Philly. That's huge news.
Just kidding... kind of.
(the above comment does not indicate blame on the refs for TB's Game 6 loss)

I think he was saying that's when the booing started for "us," not for "everyone."
MojoJojo 05-21-2004, 12:54 PM I guess it depends on the penalty that lead to the PP. Probably the Flyers fans are copying Tampa to an extent, but they still didnt boo every time like they do in Tampa, just for the weak calls. Booing a team's power play on a bad penalty is completely typical of a Flyers game.
