Hello there, Curious to see, how Steve Bernier looked in the playoffs....was he hitting more, trying to score more? more defensively responsible? Working hard? ect.
How did he perform when it really counted.

I saw all the games (on tv or in Gatineau) and the whole Moncton team was completely outplayed by the Olympiques in the first three games but came back in the fourth game before going down in the 5th. Bernier was pretty much like the rest of the team - he look tired and muzzled by the Olympiques play. His best 2 games were games 4 and 5. Tremblay stole a goal from him in the last minute of play of game 5 on an incredible save. I would say his game has really improved this year (saw him play in 3-4 other games) and he now plays an NHL style. He is still an excellent prospect no doubt. As a Habs fan I would love to see him play in Montreal. What would it take for Montreal to get him from San Jose although I doubt he is available. I am just curious as to how is value stacks up when compared to some of the Montreal prospects.

I was not impressed with his play. Steve lacks one big quality to be a dominant player: character. He did not show any in the final, when his coach was relying on him to up his game a notch. He didn't. In fact, he looked lazy (my co-boarder said tired, but I'm not sure if it was fatigue).

I'M a habs fan and I surely don't want to see him in the tricolor uni. This guy doesn't stack up one bit against Kats. To think that his media agent, Marc Lachapelle, thought that this guy was a Habs natural in the 1st round... Fortunately, André Savard thought otherwise.
I can't see Bernier being better than our top 3 prospects. Just can't.

As a matter of fact, Lachapelle was touting M-A Pouliot and not Bernier as Montreal's pick in the first round. I really think Bernier and all of the Moncton team ran out of gas in the finals as none of the Moncton players had a good final. During the season, Bernier was more impresssive. I saw him dominate both offensively and physically in one game in Gatineau where he scored 2 goals and 1 assist and laid out some good body checks. He has an NHL shot and given his size and ability to play the body I think he is a great prospect for San Jose. Personally, I think he has more potential and natural talent than any of the Montreal prospects that played in Hamilton this year. He is the type of power forward that Montreal is lacking and would fit in very well on the team. Just my opinion.

One name. Kats. Not in Hamilton, but the same year of draft. I wouldn't change iota.
