cheesymc 05-14-2004, 02:49 PM 1. Trade down to Edmonton 13th and 24th
Boris Valabik- Big dman that nearly every team has but the ducks....
Enver Lisin- people say hes the fastest skater, he has Hossa size and finishing?
2. Trade with another Duck player for Ben Eager (or someone like him) we need a Morrow/Suter type of player...
3. Leptiso - rated 25th euro, lacks size...
4. Goalie - Would Cory be availible?
5. Most likely a big Dman Murray likes getting in the latter rounds
6.
7.
8.
9.
the rest would probably be canadian or college players the ducks have seem to be scouting more of....
anyone want to mock the rest for fun?

Interesting but no way Edmonton give us both the first rounders for our 9th pick.
Pwnasaurus 05-14-2004, 04:48 PM Trade up to 6-8 (depending on how the draft falls) to take Thelen. I would be pretty surprised if Lepisto fell to Round 3. I would swap our 1st and 2nd for a higher 1st and a either a third, fourth or nothing (depending on how far we have to move up) to grab Thelen. I think the list of impact players is quite short in this draft (Ovechkin, Malkin, Barker, Olesz, Ladd, Tuokonen and Thelen) and to be so close and not get one would be a killer. I would hate to settle for O'Neill or Radulov with the 9th pick if Thelen was picked one or 2 picks earlier, even if that means dealing a 3rd or 2nd. I am high on Thelen, obviously.
Kick Save 05-14-2004, 05:14 PM Wes O'Neill is dropping like a stone. Bryan Murray would have to be a fool to take him at #9. He COULD fall out of the First Round entirely. (More likely, he go in the late 20s or so.)
Lisin might be an interesting choice if we were to "trade down".
Cheesy: trying to guess who the Ducks will draft from the 6th round or so on is an absolute crapshoot. They could trade one or more of these picks to nab somebody they like (a la the move for Nathan Saunders last year).
Another guy to consider if we "trade down" a few spots is Mike Green. I predict he'll make a much better d-man than O'Neill. From everything I've read, there's no one in the entire draft who has a greater desire to make it in the NHL.
cheesymc 05-15-2004, 07:09 PM I think Leptiso could fall near the late to early 3rd round. Like last yr, remember Tobias Enstrom from last yr, or even forwards like Jiri Hudler? I think size would be a bigger factor on D so theres still a chance the ducks can get a skilled 2 way player in Leptiso to replenish their system.
As for trading down, I think its possible, but that Edmonton GM is a dummbass. If a team really wants a player at the 9th pick, Im sure they would make a trade like that.
I think Wes could be had really late in the 1st or early 2nd. Sure he has raw potential, but that doesnt mean anything if you can out perform your peers. If a well overachieving player like Kevin Kline drops to the second so could an Oneil or Shultz.
I think trading down would be the best if they cant get a top 8 player. Barker and Thelen are the only players worth taking in the top 10, and Ladd, Olesk, Malkin, Overchkin, Radulov, Tukonen will most likely be gone by 9th. I think they can at least trade down to the team that wants a shot at the best goalie since that is the position that has really been getting more attention now a days. At least the ducks can package for a decent player or additional 2nd round pick.
Does anyone know if Green can be a possible Jackman, McCabe? if So, they could get him trading down, otherwise they can take a crapshot at Valabik
Randall Graves* 05-16-2004, 04:22 PM Don't take Thelen, guys that just come out of nowhere are high risk low reward types.
Hockey Duckie 05-16-2004, 06:45 PM You mean how Lupul came out of nowhere in one year and now is likely to be a mainstay at the NHL club level?
Spankatola Jamnuts 05-17-2004, 01:59 AM Likely?

I don't know much about the 2002 draft, i'm not going to pretend too. However it is suspicious when a guy that flies under the radar all of a sudden becomes a hot stud.
Micheal Olowakandi anyone?
Pwnasaurus 05-17-2004, 12:12 PM Wes O'Neill is dropping like a stone. Bryan Murray would have to be a fool to take him at #9. He COULD fall out of the First Round entirely. (More likely, he go in the late 20s or so.)
That wasn't really the point, replace his name with whatever D-man you like, Green, etc. The point is there are 7 impact players in this draft "IMO" and to hope one falls to 9 is tough.
cheesymc 05-17-2004, 12:40 PM Hey Dion Phaneuf came out of nowhere, although he was rated by CSB higher than Colburn and Suter.... So far hes outperformed both of them, but we'll only know who's the best dman 10 yrs from now.
