Johnny Wishbone 05-11-2004, 10:36 AM Assuming there is a season of course.
Lupul did seem to get better linesmates as the season wore on, but not a huge amount of ice-time (all typical for a rookie, make him earn it)......who do you see him sticking with next year (linemates)?
I'm assuming 2nd line duties.
Predictions for G-A-Pts?
I'm thinking with some luck he can crack 50 pts (1/2 being Gs) :teach:
Kevin Forbes 05-11-2004, 11:17 AM I see 2nd-3rd line, 2nd unit powerplay unless someone tanks or he gets hot
I would say 20 goals, 40-45 points
cheesymc 05-11-2004, 12:04 PM Lupol really needs good linemates to shine. Yes hes a great slap shooter, but hes not the greatest finisher and his wrist shot is only above average. Hes fiesty at times, but he needs to get stronger to play more of a semi-power game.
He really needs to improve this offseason or he might pull a Chistov. He needs to improve his acceleration, puck handling, and defense intensity to help him with the little things. I think his performance at the young Allstar game shows that hes not good enough to single handedly create plays. His linemate Cheecho really did the dirty work for him with his passing, work along the boards, and tenacity on the forecheck. I have to admit Cheecho stood out for me more than Lupol.
Well thats just my opinion, if you put him with the right linemates he can produce like a up comming Hull, but he can be as useless as Lucky Luc was last season.
soya_sauce_chicken 05-11-2004, 12:54 PM Lupul has a birght future, and i hope he doesn't pull a Chistov
if placed in the top 2 lines, i can see him score 30 goals..
probably around 50 points
Hockeyfan02 05-11-2004, 03:47 PM Better than Chistov's stats this year.
cheesymc 05-11-2004, 03:58 PM Chistov, Lupol, Federov, Prospal, Skyora.... the top offensive players for the ducks dont play well along the boards or in front of the net.... the ducks have to find players who have enough skills to play on the top 2 lines.
Leclerc, Rob, Ruchin arent physical enough and more importantly they can put a healthy season together. If all 3 can play 65+ games in a season it would be a real success. I think losing Chourinard and Kjellberg really hurt the ducks, they both played well along the boards even if they are soft.
The ducks have a few possesion players... Melin has played great in the playoffs and he has decent size (though soft), and Hedstrom I think would be good on the 4rth line with hes great speed and toughness. I hope they dont rush Getzlaf... other than these 3 players, no help from within....
I wouldnt count on Paulsson, sure I like him since he has turned around his character and plays consistent intense hockey, but his offense is limited. I prefer Ruch as the 3rd liner, and Paulsson is at best a 3rd liner or a great 4rth liner. I dont think Macdonald will make much of a comeback either, at most a good season of 15 goals (if hes lucky to play 70+ games). Also Rob plays better at wing and he isnt good on faceoffs.
I think the ducks have to get another C, hopefully a physical/competetive one.
Bobby Ryan Getzlaf 05-11-2004, 07:01 PM I see this being a breakout year for Lupul, less than Rick Nash, though. I saw some chemistry at the end of last year with Fedorov, and they could potentially be paired next season. If they play, and show chemistry, I can see him getting 25-30 goals, and 50-60 points.
cheesymc 05-12-2004, 01:11 PM Lets no make silly forecasts until he actually shows improvement. Theres too much speculation, but it makes it fun for all of us :teach:
I remember last yr people were expecting Chistov to be a 20g 50assit guy...
Guys like Nash, Kovalchuk, etc. are rare breeds.... besides they get the playing time that Lupol wont get....
S.S. Giggy 05-12-2004, 07:48 PM Lupul will have to make himself bigger and play that power forward type of role if he's going to shine.
skariya18 05-13-2004, 02:53 AM 60 goals, 85 assists for 145 points.
The NHL is going back to 80's hockey!
