We don't need yet another one. As much as I think Perezhogin will get 20 to 40 games for his act, I think it's much less dangerous than, say, the Bertuzzi and the McSorley incidents, because it wasn't pre-medited. Just before turning around to slash Stafford, Perezhogin himself received Stafford's stick on the head (luckily he wasn't hurt) and when Perezhogin turned back, Stafford was still on his knees... so instead of hurting Stafford on his knee, the stick hit his face. That doesn't excuse Perezhogin's act, but before saying stupid things such as "the guy shouldn't be allowed to play hockey again", look at the true facts. This is much less grave than Bertuzzi's shot to the head of Steve Moore. Actually, Stafford is already out of the Hamilton General Hospital since Friday night, and has already told the management he wanted to play from what I heard yesterday. a89mogilny89 05-02-2004, 04:54 PM There are already 500 threads about this incident. We don't need yet another one. Definitely not. Go check the Prospects Board for a pretty good one. I certainly don't see the blade of this stick even come close to Perezhogin's head. And even if so.. it would have hit him with much less force than a 2 handed baseball swing, plus he would have his his protective helmet, not right in the face. Accidental or not, that's not the issue. If I bump you and knock you down, whether I did it on purpose or not, if you take a gun and shoot me in retaliation... you're going to be punished. The same logic applies here. This is much less grave than Bertuzzi's shot to the head of Steve Moore. I would have to dissagree with you there as well... as cheap and disgusting as Bertuzzi's shot was, at least he was man enough to use his hand and not a "weapon". Even though he did hit him from behind like a coward. Using a stick like that and swinging it improperly, should definitely be considered a "weapon". Actually, Stafford is already out of the Hamilton General Hospital since Friday night, and has already told the management he wanted to play from what I heard yesterday. What hockey player worth his salt, doesn't say that? I have to agree with your last sentence, but only to some extent. Yes, a hockey stick is indeed considered as a weapon. But the fact of the matter is; this "weapon" is being used night after night in the NHL for slashing. How many times per night do you a player get a cheap shot kind of slashing right behind the knee? Many times. Eventhough no one can tell what Perezhogin's intention really was, I think it's safe to say he wasn't aiming for Stafford's head. I'm sure Alexander is feeling really bad about it right now because he's not a mean-spirited person. If anything, he's a shy person. My best guess is he was tired of being constantly covered by the Barons' defensemen because he was without a doubt Hamilton's best forward in this serie. After getting Stafford's stick on the side of his helmet (you can see it on ESPN's slow motion cam), Perezhogin probably got mad there was still no call and retaliated. I don't think he expected Stafford to be on his knees. That doesn't make his act excusable, though. I do feel sorry for both guys though, mainly because I know Perezhogin ain't that kind of player. As for Stafford, I'm glad he has recovered rapidly... but I'm still entitled to my opinion: this is much less grave than what Bertuzzi and McSorley did, and there's nothing that can change my mind. If Bertuzzi got the playoffs as a suspension (plus a few games next year), I think there's no way Perezhogin will get more than 20 games. Really, that remains to be seen... who knows what kind of lasting affects a hit like that could have... I do respect your opinion, although there is no way I could agree with it. I hope everyone learns from their mistakes and lets hope the appropriate punishments get handed down and this can be put behind us. HockeyGoddess 05-03-2004, 04:21 AM Duplicate thread. Closed. | ||
