The Ads get a huge break in play which will help them recover from a grueling 7 game series. Chicago will likely be very, very rusty going into this one. They've had almost two weeks off. These two teams hate each other and both were as good as you'll get in the regular season. Here's hoping Milwaukee plays inspired like they did in game 6 and 7.

Milwaukee won Game 1, but had to shoot 58 times to score twice on Lehtonen (according to stats)..

how did Lehtonen look? His numbers are great so far..

Lehtonen was apparently pretty solid, and I heard he made a couple just outstanding saves. I'm not surprised Chicago lost since they had a really long break due to their first round sweep. I'm sure they'll be sharper in Game 2, hopefully Kari won't have to work quite as hard...

2-0 Admirals

Pivko 3g-2a = 5 points

Lehtonen = 23 for 27

All I can say is that Libor Pivko better keep his head up in Saturday's game. After taunting the Chicago bench after his 3rd goal of the game, he is lucky that only Santala fought him. Should be an interesting game tomorrow.

Yeah, he should have kept his head up after that hattrick. He took a nice shot to it after the empty netter. And about the taunting. I'm sure he was just explaining to Chicago how the scoreboard worked. Either way, I don't think he's worried. No one has the stones to do much of anything after the Perezhogin incident. Besides, Pivko is big and can skate. I don't think he'll be an easy target. But Milwaukee would love a 5 minute major and the loss of say Kurtis Foster for intent to injure.

Um what?

OK...let me put it this way...Bob Hartley is the coach for the Atlanta Thrashers, the NHL affiliate to the Chicago Wolves, but you probably already knew that by now, and a coach that likes to institute goon tactics when his team is loosing late in the game...I think you can put the dots together from there.

Holy Crap! Lehtonen with 54 saves on 55 shots tonight to single handedly decide the fate of tonight's game. Chicago wins 2-1 despite being outshot 54 to 25.

Sad too. Lehtonen deserved the win. The rest of the classless team deserves the boot. Unfortunately for Milwaukee, Nashville made the playoffs. This kept several potentially major physical contributors off the Ads playoff roster (Tootoo being one). Chicago is playing slapshot hockey. Luckily they have a great goaltender that'll help them out.

To Chicago's credit, the refs were just plain AWFUL. I personally am not one to ever complain about the refs, but holy smokes! You barely touch a guy, and you get a penalty. I think the Admirals had 17 powerplays in the game (some with LONG 5-on-3s). The Wolves battled dispite being shorthanded for nearly the entire game and they played and played well. Lehtonen didn't really have to make game breaking saves because most of them were perimiter shots, or shots in low-scoring areas. Not to take away from a spectacular game by Kari, but looking at the stats didn't justify the Wolves effort. And that is coming from a Griffins fan.

Most of these penalties weren't of the holding or hooking variety. These were elbows, high sticks, roughings, unsportsmanlike conducts, slashings. Early on Chicago set a tone that they were going to be overly physical. They wanted to physically punish the Ads at every chance legal or not. The refs let them know early on that it wasn't going to be allowed. Chicago never caught on.

and that's all she wrote :)

Mathieu Darche scores near the end of the second overtime to give the Admirals the 4-3 lead, and the series win at 4-2.

The Ads move on to face the Rochester Americans in the Western Conference Final.

Too bad Chicago didn't have a better team this year. With Lehtonen they could've won the cup. Lehtonen averaged 37.4 saves per game and 2.3 gaols per game (which sounds like a lot, but it's actually quite normal considering the amount of saves).

397 shots in 10 games. That's some bad defending, especially since most of those came in the 6 game series against Milwaukee.

Too bad Milwaukee didn't have Lehtonen. Their goalie tandem has been very good all year, but the Ads with Lehtonen would have been impressive.
