The Official WHL Final Series Thread (Post all series related material here)Mr.Hat 04-27-2004, 11:06 PM It's just Medicine Hat and Everett left in the Finals. Lets start the predictions. I say Tigers win in 7 MikeS 04-27-2004, 11:22 PM Tips in six, hardware skated around in front of our home crowd, the NEW loudest barn in the Dub! :gman: :hockey: goteam 04-27-2004, 11:29 PM Congrats to the Medicine Hat Tigers and Everett Silvertips on qualifying for the Western Hockey League Championship Series. I'm sick of having so many threads for the Everett Silvertips and Medicine Hat Tigers. So I want everything in one brand new thread. Buannan 04-28-2004, 02:56 PM Still...why a new thread when one has been dedicated to the playoffs the whole time? this is the whl championship game...makes sense to me to start a thread dedicated just to it...that way you don't have to wade through old posts but that's just my opinion goteam 04-28-2004, 04:34 PM Still...why a new thread when one has been dedicated to the playoffs the whole time? I'd be more than happy to accept suggestions on how to run this board...........by PM of course. MikeS 04-29-2004, 07:50 AM Constantine is coach of the year! (Big surprise...) (I didn't want to start yet another thread, lest it be thought the same topic as the WHL Final. I suppose there are so many Everett and M.H. threads because people like to discuss them (hey, they are in the finals!) and don't want to wade through 15 pages of old posts like the P.G. thread.) Tips should have about 8,000 for games 3 & 4! Go Tips! Davef 04-29-2004, 09:10 AM I will say Everett in 6. They will split at each others barn in the first. Then the Tips will clamp down and it all over baby! Fedz 04-30-2004, 08:21 PM Can anybody tell me if Jeff Harvey is contracted to an NHL team? Mr.Hat 04-30-2004, 10:35 PM Tips won way back in November in the Hat, 3-1... In all honesty, That win means nothing right now. The season is long gone and this is the playoffs. The Tigers are way more focused than they were in the season. Tarkus 04-30-2004, 10:39 PM Tigers win Game 1! :handclap: The Tigers opened the WHL final with a 4-1 win over Everett tonight. Even with the Tigers' high-octane offense, I wasn't expecting four goals against a very stingy 'Tips squad--but I'll take it. The line of Darren Reid, Steve Regier, and my hometown boy Stefan Meyer :yo: continued to be the most Tigers' consistent line during the playoffs, as they combined for 2 goals and 4 assists. Game 2 goes tomorrow night at the MH Arena, which is sure to be rockin'... Tarkus 04-30-2004, 10:42 PM Everett Silvertips Assistant Coach John Becanic That last name is so close to being my last name. Anyone know how that's pronounced? :dunno: MikeS 05-01-2004, 08:58 AM That last name is so close to being my last name. Anyone know how that's pronounced? :dunno: rhymes with "mechanic" MikeS 05-01-2004, 09:00 AM Tigers win Game 1! Tips sure seemed flat. They were down 1-0 to Vancouver too. They will adjust! The Kelowna series seems to have taken out some of their energy. I expect more jump tonight! :handclap: Heathen 05-01-2004, 02:43 PM Well... game one to the Tigers :) Good to see a few Tip fans in the Hat.... hope they enjoy their stay. Tigers should win this series, but it'll be hard. Everett are a very disiplened team Tigers in 6 or seven. GO TIGERS GO Tarkus 05-01-2004, 10:06 PM Tigers win Game 2 by a score of 3-0! :handclap: Nastiuk made 12 stops for the SO. Everett has been keeping them close at 5-on-5, but the difference in this series is the special teams. In tonight's game, MacArthur's two goals were both PP markers, with the 3rd goal coming with the empty net. Go Tigers! MikeS 05-01-2004, 10:13 PM Can anybody tell me if Jeff Harvey is contracted to an NHL team? He has not been drafted and as far as I know is not close to a deal with anyone as a free agent. He is a 1983 born player and is finished with the WHL at the end of this year. He was pulled by Constantine at the end of the first period tonight in game 2 loss. He gave up 2 goals, and I think Constantine was trying to shake up the rest of the Tips as well as getting Wall some experience, having not played since game 6 series winner against Vancouver. Tips just not playing their game. They are taking WAY more penalties than usual. They were the least penalized team in regular season BY FAR, but getting undisciplined. Coaching staff I'm sure will have some words on LONG bus ride back to Everett. Games 3 & 4 sold out in a matter of a couple hours, save for a few scattered singles and standing room. Over 8,000 fans will make some noise as we try to turn this thing around! :p: Mr.Hat 05-01-2004, 11:50 PM Constantine was quite mad with Harvey tonight. About what, I have no clue. I caught half of the arguement. It somewhat ended with Constantine saying "Get the 'f word' out of the building." Heathen 05-02-2004, 12:23 AM You mean HAAARRRVVVYYY!! Great game by the Tabbies tonight. I really don't think that Everett can handle the speed or the checking of the Tigers. As for not playing their game... thats because the Tigers are not letting them. Ried and Hollweg scare the life out of the Tips players and thats not a knock against them. I hope we split in Everett and win game 5 here. Fedz 05-02-2004, 07:21 PM I think that the Tigers are just too much for the Tips, hate to say it, but its true. Just wait till next year with Hamill. Yikes! MikeS 05-02-2004, 09:00 PM I think that the Tigers are just too much for the Tips, hate to say it, but its true. Just wait till next year with Hamill. Yikes! Not really sure you guys have seen the real Tips yet, I think they will wake up and make this a series. (I still think they will win it.) As far as Harvey goes, I have 2 theories: One is Harvey was crying about the fan abuse, and was having flashbacks to last year with Swift Current! Two is the face wash roughing penalty he took, and Constantine has HAD IT with the penalties the Tips have been taking, and wanted to make a statement that NOBODY, not even team MVP is above the teams goals. I suspect it could be a combination of both theories... :shakehead Vagrant 05-02-2004, 09:42 PM It's amazing that Nastiuk is facing so few shots. How has he looked this playoffs? I'm pretty sure he did well last year in the playoffs too. Does he have a future at the NHL level you think? Carolina took him in the 4th Round this past year. monster_bertuzzi 05-02-2004, 11:00 PM Mike, what about Love and Rome, how are they playin' ? MikeS 05-03-2004, 08:19 AM Mike, what about Love and Rome, how are they playin' ? Mitch Love has had a sollid playoff, save for a game in the Kelowna series (game 3 I think, was his worst game of the year) when he had pucks skip over his stick at the point, or made some bad giveaways in his own end. When he plays his physical game, the team thrives. He needs to agitate, but let the other guy take the retaliation penalty (Armstrong too). I'm not sure who you mean by Rome though? Fedz 05-04-2004, 11:25 PM Everett lost again tonight, and are down 3-0. Mr.Hat 05-05-2004, 07:30 AM I dunno, It seem the tips are taking the Tigers too lightly. I won't be surprised if the series finished tonight. Davef 05-05-2004, 12:48 PM That was not the team we sent to Kelowna a week ago. At the end of the period a handfull of the Tips would play with energy. They looked sluggish. MH was playing with grit aggitating, hitting. Tips were not. If that is the way they played in MH you did not see what the Western Confrence did. Unless someone steps up and finds that lost energy and drive tonight it's over. And for the first time I think Wall needs to start, the Tigers seemed to have gotten into Harvey's head. Havvey has gotten us this far but it is desperation time now. Hopefully they will play that way tonight. Davef 05-05-2004, 03:27 PM I dunno, It seem the tips are taking the Tigers too lightly. I won't be surprised if the series finished tonight. I think maybe they are taking them TOO serious. Tips are playing timmid. That does not cut it in May. MikeS 05-05-2004, 06:57 PM I dunno, It seem the tips are taking the Tigers too lightly. I won't be surprised if the series finished tonight. I don't think the Tips are taking the Tigers lightly... I think the Tips may very well have left it all on the ice in the Kelowna series. Maybe you can only go to the well so many times and now they are spent. Possibly, they are not geered for a team of the style that MH plays. They match well with Kelowna, as they play the same style (although Kelowna does, admitedly, a better job of it). Constantine said that if this was a fifty-five game series, we'd get it figured out! :shakehead :shakehead :shakehead Or maybe the Tips win 4 straight! :handclap: Tarkus 05-05-2004, 10:28 PM :handclap: :handclap: TIGERS ARE THE '03-'04 WHL CHAMPS! :handclap: :handclap: The Hat pulls out the brooms and sweep Everett in four straight, and are now off to the Memorial Cup for the first time since 1988! The Tigers overcame a 2-0 second-period deficit with a natural hat trick by Darren Reid. Hollweg added the insurance marker on the PP to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead they would not relinquish. (The Tigers outshot them badly, 44-15 at one point.) Hats off to the 'Tips, who had a season beyond even their wildest expectations. But now it's off to Kelowna for the Mem Cup, baby! :yo: Heathen 05-05-2004, 10:32 PM YEAH BABY!!!! Awesome to see the Tigers win the WHL Championship tonight. Its been a looooonnnnngggg time, we suffered through too many seasons of crappy hockey but now its over. Bring on the Memorial Cup. MikeS 05-05-2004, 11:01 PM CONGRATULATIONS TIGERS! CONGRATULATIONS TIGERS! CONGRATULATIONS TIGERS! Great team, great season. Have a great Memorial Cup. :yo: Heathen 05-05-2004, 11:08 PM Thanks Mike. Good to see you guys sticking around tonight after the game, classy move. Great season for ya.... I just hope you're ready for next year. At least Haaaarrrvvvyyy will be gone ;) Just kidding.... thanks for the kind words. goteam 05-05-2004, 11:34 PM Congrats to the achievements of both teams in just reaching the finals. Good luck to the Tigers and bring the Memorial Cup back to the West! Davef 05-06-2004, 08:32 AM Grrrrreatttttt game last night. The Tips did show up with the edge missing the night before. But in the end Tiggers just had too many weapons. What a complete team size, speed, grit. I have no doubt you will rasie one more cup this season. Congrats and good luck I will be cheering for you! Fedz 05-07-2004, 12:56 AM Kevin Nastiuk was named WHL playoff MVP. | ||
