Giants turf Evason

Well, apparently Evason wasn't on the same page with owner Ron Toigo. This will make for an interesting off-season for many WHL clubs who were looking for a replacement. He's a great coach who gets a lot out of his players.

Don Hay (ugh!) has been named as the replacement.

Evason is a good coach. He took a third year team to the second round of the playoffs, which is not bad.He should be praised rather than fired. Personally, for pure sentimental reasons, I'd like to see him hired to coach the Spokane Chiefs. Although I am an Everett fan, I was born and raised in Spokane and always cheer for the old home team when they're not playing the Silvertips.

He's rumored to be the replacement...

The Vancouver Sun listed possible candidates Tuesday as Don Hay, a former head coach in Calgary and Phoenix who was also coach and GM of the WHL's Tri-City Americans, ex-Buffalo Sabres head coach Ted Nolan and former NHL player Ryan Walter.

Dumb move, IMO. I live in the Lower Mainland and got to see a Giants game this year. I follow the team a bit, and it seems to me that he has done a good job. He did take a 3rd year team to the second round of the playoffs, after all...

He caught a lot of criticism before the Kamloops series, and the rap was he couldn't win a playoff game, let alone a series. But after beating the Blazers, his stock seemed to rise a bit.

Losing to an "expansion" team sealed his fate, I guess.

I wonder if Mark Habscheid is looking over his shoulder...

Habscheid is on his way to the Phoenix Coyotes now.

Don't forget, too, that the Spokane coach was fired after the Chiefs lost to the Silvertips in the first round of the playoffs.

ok...I'm as proud of the silvertips as anyone...but these coaches weren't fired simply because they lost to an expansion team

the chiefs' coach being fired is long overdue
and you saw what a great job dean did with the t-birds this year

not sure why the giants fired their coach as I don't follow their team that closely...but I kinda doubt the fact they lost to an expansion team was the reason

ok dont be stupid. marc habscheid is the best thing the rockets have. The only way theyre losing him is if he goes to the coyotes to be assistant coach.

I honestly can't believe the fired Evason, he did wonders for this time.

He did, but he wasn't a Toigo man, Don Hay was. Only reason Hay wasn't hired two years ago was because he was under contact with Utah.

Well, he's a good WHL coach who isn't so good in the NHL...
