Again; I believe that Gatineau is just too strong for any team in this league. Moncton has taken some bold steps forward since Christmas, but I don't think they have the depth to handle les Olympiques.

Prediction: Gatineau in 6!:teach:

Gatineau in five. Fournier and Talbot are heating up.

Moncton in 6.... Crawford is a wall. I didn't have much hope for anyone against Gat. until I saw what Chic. did to them, had them on the ropes. I know I'm a homer, but I really think it's going to be a great series, and as long as CC plays as well as he has throughout the playoffs, Moncton will take them.

depth? Moncton has possibly the most balanced team in the Q... Very solid team with lots of depth, a beast up front in Bernier and a Brick Wall in Crawford (although I'm not a fan of his at all, he's been amazing in the playoffs...)

This should be a great series. Gatineau is solid but Moncton has been playing well outside game 1 against PEI. I wouldn't mind seeing any of these games, and whoever wins should give the rest of the CHL fits in the memorial cup. :jump:

Moncton in 7. Should be close!

Moncton is a big tough team with an excellent goalie who takes a lot of space in the net ... Rimouski was complaing about his equipment ... so they have everything to beat Gatineau

How was the regular season battle between Moncton and Gatineau?

if i'm not mistaken, Hull won 2 and Moncton won 1.

Friday night Hull won in a complete domination. If Moncton had 2 scoring chances "of poor quality" then it's being generous. The Piques defense is underrated IMO, but Vagner got injured friday.. let's hope he's ok.

Moncton's offense looked awful.. let's hope for them that they can wake up.

Game 2 is tonight.

For those in the province of Québec, all the games are going to be on Vox TV (which is available if you have Videotron as a cable provider). It's great news.

Gatineau won again last night 3-2. Moncton may have bigger players that the Olympiques but Gatineau's fast skaters is just too much for Moncton. Moncton's key players are not doing their job and they are leaving Crawford all alone. Our defense is just doing an excellent job in helping Tremblay and all lines are producing and doing their job. I think in Tuesday's game Moncton are going to play even more physical than last night (29 hits for Moncton against 12 for Gatineau) because that's the only way they can stop the fast skaters. If Gatineau continues to all play like they do and Moncton do not bring their game a notch, the series may be over before we know it.

The problem for Moncton is that they are already 2 down and they don,t seem to have any offense! Friday's 16 shots were awful.. not even decent scoring chances in there.. and yesterday well they played better but still not good enough.

Gatineau has an awesome offense.. if you want to beat them, you also have to be able to score. I'm looking forward to facing Kelowna at the Mem Cup.. of the 4 teams there, i still see them as the weakest (assuming Guelph, Medicine Hat and Hull makes it). I know i know, it's still too early, but i have a hard time seeing their opponents win those series :)

D'Amours (leaf prospect) has played great in Vagner's (Dallas prospect) absense.. D'Amours was named 1st star in both games. O'Brien was my favorite dman during the regular season, but in the playoffs D'Amours really stepped up. He's not taking those stupid penalties which had me mad at him for part of the season :)

Not saying that Gatineau wouldn't have eventually won the game anyways, cuz Moncton isn't playing well right now and Crawford seams to have cooled down, but Gatineau got a damn lucky bounce on one goal last night... The shot missed the net and bounced back off the boards/glass and hit Crawford in the back, then trickled in... Who knows how it would have finished without that fluke goal...

Wow after the trouble Gatineau had with the Sags, I figured this series would be much closer. Looks like Gatineau is crusing by Moncton, as they are up 3-0 so far and could be up 3-0 in the series if Moncton doesn't wake up. :shakehead

8-2. Wow. A rout.

Personally, I'm not surprised. Gatineau was too strong this season. The team coasted against Rouyn, but when it fell behind 1-2 in the series against Chicoutimi, Benoît Groulx rocked the boat, calling his captain to stand up. And Max did. Since then, they have outscored the opponents 33-8! :yo:

Remember, this is a team with 12 returnees from the Memorial Cup final last season, plus 2 more from the Memorial Cup final 2 years ago! You're talking about 14 players with Memorial Cup final experience!!! This team was bound for Kelowna from the start.

And I might add that it's their cup to lose.

Can anyone tell me the little strengths and weaknesses of Dominic D'Amour?

Someone who's seen him play on a regular basis this season.

QcS

Leaf: i've seen him play this year.. D'Amours is big and has an NHL caliber shot from the blue line. He's also very reliable defensively. He'll never be an "offensive dman" if he makes the NHL, but he'll be able to help his team on the depth chart with dmen.

I was frustrated this year at him because he would take lots of stupid penalties or fight for no reason, but since the beginning of the playoffs, he has shown me that he can be very disciplined, and stepped up by being named 1st star in the first 2 games of the finals.

8-2 win by Hull last night.. Moncton being outplayed, they decided to play dirty and try to injure Olympiques players.

Elbows, high sticks, crosschecks from behind, Hepditch spearing Rousseau, Doucette running Hull goalie David Tremblay, the Moncton players showed they can't win or lose with class.

It was a pathetic display. Luckily, there's only one more to go and then the Hull players will be able to rest before the Mem. Cup tournament.

Wow. What a display by the Olympiques. The Wildcats haven't even been in it yet. I should have said Hull in four. Not Hull in five.

Ah. It's not over yet...

Gatineau clinches the Presidents Cup 4 games to 1.

A dominating performance from Gatineau throughout the entire playoffs. They are truly deserved winners.

Can they take the Memorial Cup?

The last 2 games Moncton started to play better. They almost made it interesting tonight when they tied it up 1-1. But Gatineau was the better team all year and should be tough to beat in the memorial cup. Should be a great series to watch next weekend.

While not Jesus, Max is THE true leader of this team. Heck, of this league. He's a keeper (if I'm Pittsburgh). He's a bait (if I'm Montreal). I see Guy Carbonneau qualities in him.

The Piques have what it takes to win the Memorial Cup for a second time in 8 years. The only intangible is the referriyng. I don't know how it is out West. The Piques are a deadly PP. But if they cannot get the breaks, the team won't be able to show it.

It's a smaller than usual team (much like last season's), but fast a hell, creative and very pugnacious. Plus, they have an underrated goalie. Man, Gatineau midget AAA is producing goalies galore: Tremblay, Crawford, Drouin-Deslauriers, all from the same team!!!

How did D'Amour play throughout the playoffs?

QcS
05-11-2004, 07:11 AM
D'Amour was THE top dman for Hull. He was named first star in the first 2 games of the finals.

he finished the playoffs with 3 goals (all on the PP), 6 assists for 9 points in 15 games. The most important thing though is that he was far more disciplined than in the regular season and he was the most reliable dman for Hull.

You will get a chance to have a look at him during the mem cup tournament.

As a rabid Q follower, I've been jealous of Gatineau's program for a long time now. It's hard to dislike a team that wins with class and skill like Gatineau. It's easier to dislike a team that'll goon it up just for the sake of gooning it up like Baie-Comeau.

Congrats to Gatineau on another Q title. Let's hope it comes down to the Olympiques and Mooseheads in the finals again next year. Maybe the outcome will be different next time.
