i was just thinking about this over the weekend... not sure if this has been posted.. to lazy to look it up so here goes:

Kariya leaves to Colorado for a chance of winning the cup; might get it, but look bad against the Sharks
Selanne leaves San Jose in chances for a Cup; Sharks are tearing it up, probably will beat the AV's and have a good chance of winning it all
Fedorov leaves the Wings to play on a team that will give him more playing time and hopes to be in the playoffs this year; Red Wings are i the playoffs
Oates leaves the Ducks for more money saying he wants a cup as well.. Oilers didn't make the playoffs
Prospal leaves lightning for money reasons and probably thought the Ducks will make it this year; Tampa is one of the strongest teams out there right now next to San Jose
Stumpy leaves us to be closer to home; has a chance to finally get the cup with the Wings...

I'll give you this one almost, although his perception of his contract treatment is partly to blame as well

He left because the Gary to his Ace left for Colorado (see above)

He left because he wanted to be the main attraction, he is a little goofy and because he probably wanted to live on the left coast

I don't think he thought the Oil had a better chance than the Ducks this year. He wanted too much to re-sign and when time started running out he jumped on board with the Oil.

Prospal leaves lightning for money reasons and probably thought the Ducks will make it this year; Tampa is one of the strongest teams out there right now next to San Jose

I suppose most people thought the Ducks were making the playoffs. His impetus for leaving was money plain and simple, and why not coming off a career year in a free agency year.

Stumpy leaves us to be closer to home; has a chance to finally get the cup with the Wings...

Definitely a closer to home while still having a good chance at the ring situation
