USA vs. Slovakia
--------------------------------
My prediction: 4-2 Slovakia
Should be a great and tight game.
Panopticon 04-25-2004, 06:38 PM I'm hoping for a tie, but I'm guessing that Slovakia will win 3-1. Or maybe 4-1.
Rabid Ranger 04-25-2004, 08:11 PM The Slovaks have a considerable amount of firepower, so this will be a considerable challenge for the U.S. defense. If they can avoid hitting the wall in the 3rd period they have a good chance of pulling a victory out. That being said, I'll give the edge to Slovakia and predict a 3-1 victory over the U.S. I hope I'm wrong, but............
Have to favour the Slovaks here. Their offence is downright scary and they practicly have a home advantage. I wonder the about their defence and goaltending though. Should be a high scoring contest: 6-4 Slovaks.
gopher 04-26-2004, 06:52 AM 1:0 slovakia (gaborik)
Devo-2 04-26-2004, 02:55 PM Drury takes a cross checking, game misconduct in the first? What happened?
stungun 04-26-2004, 02:55 PM i wonder what drury got a misconduct for ??????????
Predatore 04-26-2004, 02:59 PM imo a very questionable call. Drury with a powerful check, had his arms a bit too high at the same time as the Slovakian player was rather low, so he hit him in the ice. Definitely a penalty but not a game misconduct imo. Man was Drury angry after the call. Quite entertaining game IMO.
Chevy Cheveldae 04-26-2004, 03:02 PM Drury came from behind and skated up to his slovak and really gave him a big check
The slovak hit the ice and started to bleed from his nose, probably why the referee took a major, but still a very weird call by the ref

Keep in mind that the ref spoke to both benches something like 30 seconds before Drury's check, telling them to cool their players down.
Norseman 04-26-2004, 03:06 PM Personally I thought it was a 2 + 10 for checking to the head, not a game misconduct for crosschecking.
And man was Drury angry when he walked to the dressingroom, he slammed his stick towards the wall and unintentionally hit the poor man who escorted him in the head. Fortunately it didn't do any damage and the man seemed to take it fine and laughed about it.
Predatore 04-26-2004, 03:07 PM For sure some tension between the two teams,.
Fredrik 04-26-2004, 03:52 PM Drury is interviewed on Swedish TV. He is upset about the call and says the ref should be ashamed of himself.
neelynugs 04-26-2004, 04:19 PM currently 3-3...richard park with 2 points, ty conklin in net.
Gaborik10 04-26-2004, 04:44 PM Who was the Slovak player? I hope it wasn't the diver, Kapus....
I think it was Ladislav Cierny
AEKaki 04-26-2004, 08:19 PM How did Malone play?
Pekka Lampinen 04-27-2004, 02:47 AM Malone was sharp in catching the freak bounce and put it in very fast before anybody could do a thing. Beyond that, he's been an average player on the U.S. team. He doesn't seem to have the experience to cut it yet, so he has been outplayed by some of his "NHL inferiors".
Raimo Sillanpää 04-27-2004, 05:08 AM Roach has really impressed me, he's the sort of foreigner I'd like to see SM-Liiga teams sign up instead of these shots in the dark of will he be good or not type of acquisitions that are too frequent..
I think that the Drury call was just right. Not only did he came from behind and hands high, he also came in very late. Slovakian was no longer considered as player with puck, his pass had already been recived. With IIHF rules, it was pretty much only possible penalty to give.
Other than that, it was pretty cool game, with lot of scoring chances and nice plays, both goalies played pretty well. Although USA got extremely lucky on two goals and Lasak hoover the first one. Third period wasn't as good as first two, players began to tire (specially Slovakian 1st and 2nd line) and both teams concentrated more to defense.
Padawan 04-27-2004, 07:59 AM I think Richard Park's PP goal is the most beautiful goal in the tournament so far. He looked a spot. Looked towards the guy at the blue line, shot towards the goal and only after the shot he looks did it went in or not. I simple goal scorers goal.

Park is another Wild who, if he played in a more wide open system, would have considerably better offensive numbers. He's got some great speed, and pretty fair skills to go with it.
