is Khabby gonna be qualified by Tampa or will he be Let go and re-signed for a lesser price. now common sense tells me yes, but i heard about an arguement last season and this makes me wonder whether you are likely to take a chance on a different goalie.
i guess his staying a lightning but just double checking with the people who'd know.

The CBA will have alot to do with whether Khabibulin is signed, if a deal can't get worked it is likely he will get traded.

I think its better to wait till after the playoffs. Makes the player try harder to earn it in the playoffs.
I always shake my head when a team gives a big contract to a player right at the end of the season, I dont really see the point.

Feaster has said that he "fully expects" to pick up Khabi's option. This was weeks ago, however, so I can't give the source right now.

Looking at the Player Contract thread up there:
Nikolai Khabibulin (signed 3/17/01)
3-year contract through 2003-2004 ($6.5 million club option for '04-'05)
'03-'04 salary: $4,434,579
'02-'03 salary: $3,873,439
'01-'02 salary: $3,316,298
6.5 might seem a little steep (to some people cause of CBA talks), but if he keeps playing like he has in the playoffs I dont think anyone will argue.

Not when you consider the Bolts almost paying him that this year because of all the bonuses.

Yeah thats one thing I was wondering, are there gonna be less bonuses with his contract up that high? Anyways the more I think about it the better 6.5 for Khabby looks. Though that option doesnt really matter if there is no hockey next season.

Hmm, good question. I'd assume his biggest bonus ($1 million for making the playoffs) won't apply in the option year, but not completely sure.
The option year salary is somewhat high because he's foregoing a year of UFA eligibility, he turned 31 in January.

No, no bonus next year, just a flat fee.
