There about 12 oa goalies available to play next season. When does it make sense for a team to use an oa spot for a goaltender. It seems to me it would only be if a team is making a serious run to go deep into the playoffs. Otherwise it would be wiser to develop your young netminders. If this is so, what happens to these other goalies?

ECHL, AHL you mean.
But only two or three are likely to get professional contracts.
The CIS will be the destination for a lot of them.

Sometimes the best way to develop the young goalies is to keep one of these guys around as o/a's, and let the youngsters watch how they conduct themselves in games, practices, and away from the rink.
