Wow..How did you hear about Olimb? He`s pretty young and unheard of....at least that`s what I thought.
According to VIF coach Petter Thoresen, Olimb (forward) reminds him of Shampo. Quick and very skilled with the puck. He`s got the potential to be Norway`s new "superstar" and to play in the NHL

Still, he doesn't consider him good enough for VIF

i cant remember where exactly i first heard of these plyers but i remember seeing both trygg and olimb both picking up points in a recent international tourney - as well as trygg picking up a shed load of PIMs ...
just did a bit more research on them and wondered if they could ever make it to the NHL, its always nice when players make it from "weaker" european leagues
thanks for the input as well - nice one

Yea..I believe Olimb participated in the U18 world championships this spring...

Yeah, he did pretty good - and Trygg too. I assume he's somehow related to the SEL'er, whose first name escapes me? Mats, perhaps?

Correct. Any chance a player like Olimb will get drafted this year? Scouts seem to overlook Norwegian talents, just look at Patrik Thoresen. Why he`s not drafted is beyond me!

From what I heard, it was attitude, work rate and defensive issues, mainly. But he sure has lit it up wherever he's gone. Maybe this year is his lucky year. Maybe not.
He was in St. Louis' prospect camp in Summer '02 after the draft - but without luck.
And generally, I don't think it's a case of being "overlooked". Holtet and Tollefsen both went early in '02.

I know, but basically the 02 draft is the last in "recent memory" where a Norwegian has been drafted. If scouts where present in Oslo during the B WC, Thoresen is going to be drafted. He was absolutely amazing, outplaying a player like Kastitsyn in the Belarus - Norway game.
Norseman 05-06-2004, 01:30 AM Mathis Olimb. Small (5'8" - 155 lbs), technical player. Think Espn Knutsen. I don't think he has the size nor grittiness to make the NHL though.
Mathias Trygg, brother to Mats (Färjestad) and Marius (Hammarby). Also very small (5'8" - 155 lbs). Plays a similar game to Olimb. Speed and stickhandling. Not NHL-calibre body I'm afraid.
Lars Erik Spets (6'0" - 180 lbs). Best chance to make it. Typical powerforward. crashes the net good, never afraid to get his nose dirty and has a decent shot. Also good along the boards.
The thing I heard from several sources about Thoresen's draft is not skills. I've heard that the Moucton-coach had a habit of favouring the frenchspeaking players, something Thoresen confronted him with which again led to bad critics from the coach to the scouts about his desire, work rate and heart. But how realible this is, I don't know. But he was wery high rated in the first CSB-list and also high rated by many posters here who saw him live. We can only hope he makes a splash in the SEL next year and judging by his extraordinare effort at WC-I, I think he will

NOOO !!! oh well sad to hear about Olimb and Trygg, i guess the height doesnt matter as much as the strenght of those two - which jugding by their stats prob aint too good ! Speed would have helped to counter their height problems but it does indeed look dire for the two kids from the star team (are they still there ?)...
but looking good for spets, good to hear he isnt afraid to mix it up - hows his foot speed ? oh well if at least one other norwegian is drafted it will would make a nice "surprise" - spets for a late round pick up ???
