Fletch 04-15-2004, 02:47 PM with the goaltenders in these Stanley Cup playoffs. Guys, especially Theodore and Brodeur are underperforming. Dipietro's shown flashes, but has let in a good deal of soft goals. Cloutier was OK, Hedberg hasn't been. Lalime's been weak as have Aubeischer and Turco. Kflabby and Belfour have done well, and Vokoun's been coming on strong, but I really haven't seen that Stanley Cup-winning type of goaltending yet; as such, I think this thing is pretty wide open at this point.

I agree. I do think Vokoun has been pretty good, but then again the shots he has faced have not been extremely difficult saves. Aubeischer has been sub-par but his team is winning and to some degree I guess that is all that matters. Broduer has sucked. Again, I dont want to start a debate but I am of the opinion that he has been overrated and helped incredibly by Stevens and the NJ system. These playoffs are helping my case.
I havent had the chance to see The Rick play because that series isn't shown here in Colorado (although I did see St.Louis' undressing of the Isles D and Cairns' mishaps). From the scores I have just assumed he hasnt been playing to well, does anyone have any insight on this?

All of the Devil fans would have you believe that Esche stood on his head last night. He played very well , but the fact is that the Devils don't have a lot of finishers.
Fletch 04-15-2004, 02:56 PM the team does look different without Stevens. Niedermeyer hasn't looked all that great either now that he's wearing the 'C'. I thought they would be better, still. We'll see what they've got.
kickice 04-15-2004, 03:00 PM so far of the games I've seen, Raycroft has been the best imo. Habs should have won game 4 they where really good, but Raycroft kept the Bruins in it long enough. (Till Kovy's limp wrist attack). Then after him - Belfour. Only reason the Leafs are in it really, not given much goal support in those two wins, but STILL got them through. If he got hurt, they would be done, imagine KIDD in goal for them? :help:
Theodore has been poor, given up bad goals in EVERY game. Shame really, cos that series had the makings of a 7 gamer, but the way it is now, I can see the Bruins closing it in 5.
Brodeur has been unspectacular. But like a lot of the season, he just hasn't had the goal support.
Clouts i thought was doing good till he got hurt. I feel bad for him, this was the chance he had to show he COULD do it in the playoffs, and he had a solid start. Now he's out. The only reason I wanted the Canucks to do ok was cos of Clouts - I admit, he was a favourite of mine when he was here! So now he's out, I was glad Hedberg got a bit battered the last game.
So basically, not much spectacular goaltending YET, but solid goaltending from the likes of Raycroft, Belfour, Nabokov, Bulin, Vokoun.

Hey you too. I have loved Cloutier ever since he came up with the big club. The good ole' days when he and PJ Stock used to be folk heroes in Hartford. I remeber JD, in an interview with Stock, asking who the toughest guy on the 'Pack was. Without hesitation Stock said that Dan Cloutier was. Then he went out and beat the tar out of Tommy Salo, BEST RANGER FIGHT I HAVE SEEN, and that moment made me feel sooooo proud to be a Ranger fan. Dan did what every single one of us wanted to do and when it was all over he wanted more and challenged those women on the Islander bench to fight him also. Wow, it's that intensity, that love for the Ranger sweater, and that dedication to your fans and your teammates that I miss. Good luck Cloutier.

I agree, that kid was pretty calm in net last game.

yeah, Dan is a character for sure, and this game always needs characters. I really hoped he'd get a good run this playoffs. I was watching that game where he got hurt, and my heart sank for him. Typical he managed to get up and do that last save though despite being hurt. And I agree, that fight was awesome, I still have the clip saved!
I have one of Clouts first Rangers (Binghampton and a few NY games I think) game used blocker sitting proudly on a shelf in my living room here over the pond!
gkrangers 04-15-2004, 04:43 PM Raycroft and Vokoun have looked strong in all the games.

I thought that Niedermayer was the best defenseman in the NHL during the regular season, but he hasn't been as good through four games of the playoffs. He hasn't been bad, but not great either. He looks worn down IMO, with Stevens gone and Rafalski missing a number of weeks Niedermayer carried the team on his back.
Pass-the-Puck 04-15-2004, 04:46 PM Raycroft has looked like the best of the bunch thus far.

Esche was great last night. The Devils dominated for a 25 minute stretch late in the first period and for most of the second period.
The EGG line has been the NHL's best for 3 months.
Do the Devils have a ton of what would be known as "great" finishers ? No they don't, but they do have a number of players that seem to come up with the big goals when they need it most. Guys like Langenbrunner, Friesen, Madden, Niedermayer, Rafalski .....

the heartless slobs can't score the kid a goal. He has let in a softie here or there the 3rd one last night was soft. But it didn't matter the that time the Isles were long done. I've been surprised Broduer has been playing so badly he is usually clutch in the playoffs. Also very surprised at Turco as you said.
