Forsberg123 04-14-2004, 09:51 AM Only 10 days away from the WC in Prague - We have to look at the players available for Germany :
Goaltending - Kölzig, Müller, Jonas (Zach said Kölzig will be his Number One Goalie and gets most of the games - unlike his normal habit of playing all goalies)
Perhaps the best goalies for a long time but goaltending never really was a problem.
Defense : Lüdemann - Benda
Kunce - Leask
Retzer - Kopitz
Molling? - Renz? - Goldmann?
Well, we'll see how much the loss of Seidenberg and Ehrhoff will hurt...The defense can be called solid.
Forwards : Hecht - Ustorf - Greilinger
Kreutzer - Abstreiter - Kathan
Martinec - Ullmann - Morzienietz
Lewandowski - Boos - Blank - Reichel - Fical
perhaps a few other candidates I've forgotten...
I'm looking forward to see Jochen play - Unfortenately I have seen only one Buffalo game this year but it seems he's on fire.
Good forwards in my opinion - The defense is the problem this year.
Thoughts appreciated and as always I'm looking forward to see them work their
a**** off.
Greetings to all

Renz will probably play with Kunce in defense. also:
Lüdemann-Benda
Leask-S.Retzer
Molling-Kopitz
Goldmann will probably be reserve although i think he's better than Renz.
Hecht played LW against Austria together with Tobi Abstreiter (center) and Daniel Kreutzer. Hecht had a great game although he said he hasn't adjusted to the greater surface yet.
Greilinger played also great against Austria. My prediction:
Greilinger-M.Reichel-Morczinietz
also:
Martinec-Ustorf-Kathan
Ullmann will most likely get a callup after the prelimenary round. I don't know what happens to Sven Felski. Too bad that Florian Keller and Michael Bresagk didn't get invitations. they played great DEL playoffs.
Eisbaerenfan 04-18-2004, 05:33 AM other forwards at the IIHF WC are Blank-Boos-Lewandowski of course
Eisbaerenfan 04-18-2004, 05:35 AM after reading my posts again i'm not sure whether Greilinger will play with Morczinietz in one line. both are not the best physically and both are LW. I wouldn't want to be Hans Zach.
EHCler 04-18-2004, 07:53 AM I think That is by far the most balenced German Team for a long while. 4 good lines just a bit sad that the defenders from Na are missing.
If Cleveland is eliminatted couldn't Erhoff join the team
Sanderson 04-18-2004, 08:13 AM No, San Jose would still need him as an emergency backup on defense.
Things can change quickly (see Marcel Goc) and you don't want your next best player on the depth chart playing elsewhere when you need him.
I wonder what Seidenberg is doing...
He was cleared to play on April the 7th and is loaned to the Phantoms, but isn't playing there.
The team looks great. Even though some guys can't play or retired, there are still more good players than roster spots left.
You can add Smazal to the list of defensemen.
Sanderson 04-18-2004, 01:36 PM Fical, Kopitz, Goldmann and Jung were cut from the roster today, because of the arrival of Reichel, Felski, Leask und Jonas.
today's roster:
G:
Kölzig
Müller
Jonas
D:
Renz-Kunce
Lüdemann-Benda
Leask-S.Retzer
Molling-Smazal
A:
Hecht - Abstreiter - Kreutzer
Greilinger - Ustorf - Kathan
Martinec - Ullmann - Morczinietz
Lewandowski - Boos - Blank
Reichel - Felski
Forsberg123 04-19-2004, 04:59 AM Just read that Christoph Schubert is allowed to participate in the WC.
The Sens must be pretty low on him if they allow him to go in case of injuries assuming that they get the better of the leafs in Game 7.
Perhaps we don't have to see Renz or Kunce.
Bacchus 04-19-2004, 06:00 AM Perhaps we don't have to see Renz or Kunce.
No Kunce would be nice!
danista 04-19-2004, 06:00 AM Hopefully we don't have to see Smazal, but Schubert won't play, because Zach don't know how good he is at the moment and he said that he would only invite him if he plays the at least 2 exhibiton games.
danista 04-19-2004, 06:02 AM No Kunce would be nice!
Why not Kunce? He's better than Renz & Smazal and is also a hard player.
no one important 04-19-2004, 07:21 AM Why not Kunce? He's better than Renz & Smazal and is also a hard player.
Well, I really like kunce but he does have the tendency to take the most stupid penalties at the perfect wrong time and cost the team badly!
Look here (http://www.hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=70936) , what about Kunce AND Smazal! :D
Sanderson 04-19-2004, 08:00 AM One of the nine defensemen has to be cut from the roster, as well as two forwards who will be recalled when the second round starts.
I hope Zach doesn't cut Greilinger or Ullmann.
Bacchus 04-19-2004, 08:05 AM Well, I really like kunce but he does have the tendency to take the most stupid penalties at the perfect wrong time and cost the team badly!
That's exactly the reason why I don't want him to play.
Forsberg123 04-19-2004, 10:49 AM I would have preferred one of the younger defenseman over Kunce/Renz like Pettermann or Walter but they still have time.
From what I've seen I hope he keeps Ullmann and Greilinger and scratches Boos and Blank. In my opinion these two haven't been seen in the Preperation games.
As far as I am informed, Zach can take 25 players with him.
Defense is closed, Schubert will be part of the team, Zach will send another defender on the way home.
As for offense, he will take all of them to Prague and has just to decide, which players he'll name for first round. Stepping into the next round, he will be able to name these two others and decide which to choose for every single game. Just because, there will be no players from NA to call for ( Sturm, Seidenberg, Ehrhoff all blocked for different reasons ).
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Would be great to see Ullmann on the roster, he played an outstanding season in Mannheim and showed up in the same manner in the preparation games for Germany.

at least he's going to play wednesday against USA. but he should make the WC squad and it's nice to have him there. his toughness is well-needed.
Would be great to see Ullmann on the roster, he played an outstanding season in Mannheim and showed up in the same manner in the preparation games for Germany.
i agree. in the games on DSF i've seen (vs austria (twice) and vs switzerland) he was one of the better players. rarely mistakes and always good for some chances/goals.
Cup4Philly 04-21-2004, 08:16 PM I wonder what Seidenberg is doing...
He was cleared to play on April the 7th and is loaned to the Phantoms, but isn't playing there.
Seidenberg played tonight for the Phantoms. He's also on stand-by for the Flyers just in case Kim Johnsson isn't ready to play in game 1 of the Flyers/Leafs series.
Sanderson 04-23-2004, 08:00 AM That's great to hear, hopefully he can secure a roster spot next season...
Schubert was cut from the roster, as well as Felski and Ullmann, who will be nominated for the second round.
Go-SENS-Go 04-24-2004, 04:54 PM hard match for your team tonight.
I think Kazasthan deserves an own board there! They are not bad at all!
EHCler 04-29-2004, 08:34 AM At least did better than the footballers yesterday (which was not very difficult after their display), but when giving away so many penalties against the Czechs you are not gonna win anything.
Did not expect anything from this game anyways, but we should be able to beat
like every year our two beloved neigbours and secure a quarterfinale place. :yo:

i wish i could have your optimism. this team suck a lot and i think austria will blast them away and switzerland will finally beat germany in an important tournament game.

You are wright the performances so far have been disapointing, but there are still a few things going for us. We will be well rested for the game tomorrow against the Austrians and we controlled them in all the friendlies before the tournament. We need to win that game so, if we do the cards will be reshuffeled and maybe will get the neccessary confidence. I think it is time for Hecht and Koelzig to step up and show they are crunch game players.

yes, we controlled austria three times in a row some weeks ago, but they look like another team now. they're definately better. vanek has a streak and they play like a good team.
and yes, it's time for these two to step up. hecht must score goals and kolzig looked shaky in his two games, altho' he wasn't bad. he must be a wall.
Sanderson 05-01-2004, 11:13 AM Kölzig, IMO, didn't look shaky at all.
When he arrived he looked bad on some goals, but not in this tounament.
zecke26 05-02-2004, 01:41 PM Kölzig, IMO, didn't look shaky at all.

not the goals were the problem, but he had some actions that looked funny. and too many rebounds.
EHCler 05-03-2004, 12:12 PM So we need a draw against switzerland to qualify for the 1/4 final.
Though we have not performed at our best yet, we have gotten points out of all games we should have.
If we do not give away silly goals and penalties, Mr Martinec, I think we have a chance of getting something out of the game. The Swiss have not been convincing yet either.
Should be an interesting game.
