Rockets in 5

No slight on the Tips, Kelowna's just a really great team.

Kelowna in 5 games

Season series 2-2 with the Tips out scoring the Rockets 7-5. I can't see the Rockets going to sleep like they did games 1 and 2 and losing at home. Kelowna has won all five road games this year, so it will be very interesting what happens in Everett.

They will go 7 games! As always I will take the home team call. Tips in 7. I do not see more than 4 or 5 goal total per game. We will try to bore Kelowna to death too!!

I tend to think that the Tips are going to have a tough time against the Rockets. But then most people probably didn't believe that Everett would get past the Giants. So, going with my heart rather than my head, I'm picking the Tips in 7. :jump:

I have yet to be bored this season! Fundamentaly sound hockey is not boring, IMO. The Tips were 2-1-0-1 against the Rockets this year, splitting a two game set here in November (Tips lost 1-0, won 2-1). Also lost in OT in first visit to Kelowna after scoring two goals late to force OT, then winning a game down the stretch.

I don't think Kelowna fell asleep in games 1 & 2 vs. Tri-City, I think that Tri is a better team than some may realize (or realise in Canada).

Kelly Guard is mortal when he sees more than 20 shots.

If any team in the WHL matches well with the Rockets, it is the Tips.

Kelowna is also a trapping team. You can't bore Kelowna to death.

If one thing is for sure, the entertainment value of this series won't be great.

Good thing the WHL doesn't depend on TV ratings for money.
I've only seen Kelowna twice this year, and only watched one of those games closely, but I saw them playing a 2-1-2. They forechecked aggresively and played a very physical game. They certainly aren't an open team, and they play a VERY tight defensive game with a certain amount of obstruction, but the one time I really watched them this year they didn't play a 1-2-2 or 1-3-1, but a 2-1-2, and a fairly aggressive one at that. Maybe they usually trap but didn't in that game? I didn't get to see any of the Rockets Giants games this year, so I'm unfortunately limited to the two games I saw on TV.

You're certainly right about the entertainment value though. For most people, wide open hockey with lots of scoring chances makes for exciting hockey, and by that definition this series won't be very exciting.

That's about it, I think. They used a 2-1-2 a lot last year, particularly with the top line. Most of that team is intact, so it can't be too hard a transition if Habscheid calls for it once in a while. But from the times I've seen them this year and what I've heard, they're normally clogging up the neutral zone rather than forechecking aggressively. The King-Bodie-Spurgeon line had a lot of success on the forecheck in the last three Tri-City games, though, so it'll be interesting to see what they throw at the Tips. Kelowna in 5, in any case.

The Tips are alot like the Wild from last year. Decent team, great coach, defense first style, run to the West final. I say it'll end here for them, but they won't go down without a fight. Rockets in 7, you heard it here first.

I happen to like defensive hockey...so I guess I'm a freak

anyway....I'd like to call the series after the first game just to see how they both come out of the gate...but I guess that isn't fair
so...what the hell

I say everett in 7...final score of that game....1-0 in OT

Kelowna has never trapped, they are always two high aggressive forecheck. I don't know why people think the Rockets trap? The only time I have seen the Rockets have two checkers waiting in the neutral zone is when they are on the penalty kill. :banghead:

People associate good defensive hockey with trapping. Everett traps, Kelowna sends two forecheckers deep and plays tight defensive hockey. At least that's what I've seen.

Silvertips don't trap either... see the "Tips are for real" thread... :teach:

I would love to hear from anyone who was there for the luckiest goal of the season.

Right now the Tips' season could be over, but they could pull a "Montreal Canadiens" and shock the Rockets!

The Tips do trap, but not that much. Tips only trap when ahead and again not always. It is only idiot Giant fans that think the Tips trap full time.

Well the way you heard the goal on the radio is like I seen it live, I think it Nanthe took a wrist shot from center ice. Kelly Guard went to play the puck about three feet right of the net, some how he over played it and went off his stick and into the net. Brutal goal but that's what Kelowna deserved.

Both teams didn't show much effort last night, shots 22 for Kelowna and 15 for Everett, both pathetic efforts. It looked like Everett didn't want to go on and Kelowna wanted another scenic trip to Everett.

I don't know if you're referring to me, but...

 I saw a lot of trapping out of Everett once they had the lead in the Vancouver series. When they did get the lead, they would play a passive forecheck with one guy deep cutting off the passing lanes with 4 in the neutral zone, ie a trap. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, but I didn't see a lot of aggresive forechecking after the Tips got a lead.
I'd say that the notion of the Rockets trapping is a lot more "idiotic" than the Tips trapping. The Tips DO trap a lot when they have the lead, but from what I've seen, Kelowna is one of the most aggresively forechecking, physical teams in the league. People just generally have a tendency to associate tight checking hockey involving a certain amount of clutching and grabbing with a neutral zone trap, which is why both teams have the reputation "trapping" teams. People also associate the aggresiveness of a team's forecheck to the system they play. An aggresive 1-3-1 looks a lot less like a trap than a passive 1-3-1 to the casual viewer.

I think I am going deaf. Loudest game yet, louder than Vancouver game 6 series ender!

Get ready Tigers, we may have the loudest barn in the dub right here! (hell, we cheer for icing! )
