Any insight into this tournament? Who should be considered the favorite? Who are the players that we should be watching? Apparently over 90 scouts are going to be in attendance for this tournament.

Team Russia goes with a 92 roster: http://www.russianprospects.com/public/article.php?article_id=679
I guess the teams to beat are the two Canadian ones.

Pavel Suchkov,Vitaly Zotov,Artur Amirov,Zakhar Arzamastsev,Nikita Lukin,Daniil Apalkov and Vladislav Kartaev didnt make a roster. Yakupov(93),Namestnikov,Marchenko and Gusev should lead a team. many players miss this tourney because of different reasons.

Some exhibition results have rolled in....

Canada East 5 MJAHL All Stars 6 in SO
Canada West 3 Belarus 2 in SO
Belarus 4 MJAHL All Stars 5
Canada East 9 Russia 1
Canada West 2 USA 5

The US won last years challenge, and Canada West won the inaugural event. Guessing the US are the favorite again this year. Surprised Sweden did not arrange any exhibition match ups...

The Challenge is also being discussed on the MJAHL Zone chatboard: http://mjahlforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=logout

Surprising win by Russia against Canada West! after 9:1 drubbing by Canada East I was scared going into this game. Psyched to see Barbashev, Gusev, Marchenko representing CSKA!
I have no clue why we bring younger kids to this tournament, it's not like our U20 team is tearing the world apart....

Right now the kids are looking good, as they've defeated Sweden 3-2 this afternoon to improve their record to 2-0.

Last night saw Canada East trailing 4-1 after 2, but managed to score 4 unanswered and late in the 3rd on the PP to win it 5-4. Here's the summary:

meaningless tournament..

How's it meaningless? Apparently being recruited fairly well. What are the chances that we'll see some of the Russian players in this tournament playing for their Country at the World Jrs. one of these days?

Looking at the pics under Media Gallery on the Hockey Canada site. It seems 50 people showed up for the games.

lol now now affiliate - I'm sensing a little sarcasm :sarcasm: Perhaps Dieppe should talk to the City of Summerside (or vice versa) and see if they can save the tournament :sarcasm::naughty:;)

More scores:
Belarus 5 Canada West 7 (last night)
Canada West 6 Sweden 3

Can't find anything related to player statistics on HC's tournament site

all I gonna say is that Stephan Lund needs to be fired, and that soon. The man has failed with every U18 team he had.

I was tempted to make that comment earlier today. Stephan Lund is probably the worst coach swedish hockey has ever seen, especially around young players.

To be fair the best players are in Canada at the moment, but you can't escape the fact that Lundh's track record is horrible. With the talent he's had at his disposal he really should have done better.

To be fair this a Tier 11 International Invitational Challenge.
The real U-20 or WJHC will be in Regina/Saskatoon over the Christmas season.
Maybe some teams are looking at this event as tryouts or exhibition for the Big Event?

Why did you quote me? I was talking about the Swedish team specifically (the best players are in Canada playing different university teams at the moment) and Lundh's teams (u18) have been consistently disappointing. My post has nothing to do with what you just wrote as far as I can tell.

Sorry I misunderstood.
The best Canadian University players are over the age of 20 and are playing CIS hockey after thier Jr years are over if they don't turn pro.
This tournament has Canadian players in Jr A which is below Major Jr.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Stephan Lundh just lost 3 games in a row with U18. I hope something is done very soon, because he needs to be replaced.

Congratulations to the US for winning the 2009 WJAC. They were the superior side IMO. Obviously hoping that our fellow Countrymen would put one in towards the end, the American goalie (sorry can't recall his name) was cool in nets and very focused, also the Americans blocked some key shots and did a good job closing out Canadian shooters.

Quite a few people who follow the Maritime Jr. A League are hardly sympathetic, and rightfully so, to Canada East's loss to the Russian earlier in the day and to Canada West the day before in the semis, as the team was stacked with kids from Ontario, and one from the east coast. There was a little vindication for Maritime fans when the MJAHL All Stars defeated team East in an exhibition match, but there should of unquestionably been a bigger presence from the East Coast on that squad.

Anyways, over and done now. Congrats to Summerside on hosting a great tournament. Will see what happens next year...

It's unfair to blame the freak loss against Belarus on Hardy. Sweden also had a convincing win against Canada in that tournament, remember. That Sweden team should have won against Belarus no matter how bad the coach was.

He wasn't a success as Sweden's head coach, but still won two WC silvers and two WC bronzes in four years and he has several SEL Championships on his resume and for that I will always regard him as "awesome". In total he has won eight championships in Sweden, Germany and Austria.

The team east roster made up of mostly ontario players was an embarassment to all the leagues in Eastern Canada. They were not a team that was worthy of wearing the Canadian jersey and they didnt represent the crest well on or off the ice.
THESE ARE FACTS!!!
