Graham 04-08-2004, 01:12 AM The wage cap for the Elite Ice Hockey League in the UK is £250k over the regular season. The young British players won't be far off playing for free, so if you are looking at an average of £22k a year for the squad regulars.
In the FBNL (2nd tier in the UK), the salary cap is £4500 per week, although they can pay a 20% luxury tax up to a £6750 per week ceiling. Again the imports earn more than the local players. British players can expect up to £250 a week, the imports can expect up to £550 a week. There are some of the bigger names in the league that are getting closer to £1000 a week, however.
And in both of the cases above, lodgings and usually a car, are provided by the club.
Graham.
hockey_in_hel* 04-08-2004, 08:36 PM What's your name just in case I hear about you in one of the over-seas leagues????
Sputnik 04-10-2004, 03:14 AM in germany, I would say the average is between 50-60K Euros. top players make up to 120K, maximum 140K. remember: this is only rough guessing, but shouldn´t be too far away from reality.
Slime 04-11-2004, 08:54 AM Rough estimates:
Swedish elite league: $100-110.000 on average per player and season
Finnish league: around $75.000 (based, and projected to this season, on a semi-official league average salary of $65.000 in the season '01/'02)
And about the german league, Sputniks estimate is far too low... they make considerably more than that (german club budgets are on average at least 50% higher than swedish clubs ($10 M compared to SELs $6M), and I guess that should be reflected in the salaries too).
A top swedish elite league player gets easily $250-300.000, and in the finnish league at least $150.000 (season 02/03), so those numbers must certainly be bigger in germany/switzerland, or else scandinavian players wouldn't play there.
Slime 04-11-2004, 09:10 AM My numbers are obviously based on the current exchange rates, which today are $1=7.60 swedish crowns, and €1=$1.2
And what I mean with "top players" in the swedish league are players like: Jörgen Jönsson, Espen Knutsen, Tomi Kallio, Johan Davidsson, Juha Riihijärvi, Jussi Tarvainen, Fredrik Norrena, Mattias Johansson, Fredrik Olausson, Jonas Johnsson, A-J Niemi and a few others (these players make >$250.000 guaranteed).
Are we talking about the amount before or after tax?
As for the german league, considering it's after tax, Sputnik's figures should hit reality quite well ( Of course there might be some "peaks", but very rare ).
