Worst Season Ever GDT - Calgary 4/4/04

Maybe not statistically, but with our roster and our payroll and our expectations after last season...easily the worst. I just wanted to get this thread out of the way. I'll be at the game booing my heart out so I won't get a chance to post in this thread come game time.

Since charging out of the All Star break 8-3-1-1 the Ducks have gone 3-9-1. Our current four-game losing streak matches a season-high (twice). Can we go out with 5 straight losses?

The Ducks rookie record for assists is 21 - Kariya, Cullen, McDonald. Lupul has 20, can he do it? He already has the second-most points for a Ducks rookie ever.

The Ducks were 8-for-21 (38%) on the power play in the 6 games before the Vancouver game...that was fun.

The Ducks have clinched the fifth-worst point total in club history (over a full season) regardless of what happens Sunday.

Just a few cheerful thoughts for you guys. Feel free to add whatever you like.

The quicker we can end the season, the quicker we can forget about it. I agree. This season has been the biggest dissappointment ever as a Ducks fan. We forgot what it felt like to suck after last year's magical run. Well now the feeling is back. It does really suck to suck.

Couldn't agree with you more. What makes it even more infuriating is the fact that Babcock knew what had happened to the Angels after their miraculous run in 2002 and he was bound and determined to see that the same thing didn't happen to the Ducks. Well, it did.

Before the start of this season, I can't tell you how many times I argued with fans of other teams who said that just like the Canes and the Caps before them, the Ducks were a One-Year Wonder and would be lucky to make the playoffs this year. I thought they were nuts. I honestly believed that the Ducks would finish 4th or so in the Western Conference.

Also, how could so many guys have "off years" during the same season? The only guys who played up to their potential were Pahlsson and Gerber.

This team was SO disappointing, it's hard to point the finger at any one individual. It was a COLLECTIVE collapse.

The good thing is that the nucleus of talent---if not the chemistry---is here now, we have some very promising kids in the system---I can't wait for Getzlaf to get here---and you know that Bryan Murray will be busting his tail to right the ship this summer.

Besides Fedorov and Giguere---and probably Pahlsson---I don't think there's anyone who's job is secure.

Hey guys I met Feds and Burnett at a bar in Newport Beach last night.
Burnett was very cool and was willing to talk for awhile...talked to Feds for a bit but he was busy with a group of girls surrounding him...Burnett did have two cute girls with him as well.

My friend asked Fedorov about getting his brother on the Ducks...and Feds actually said there was a good chance of that because he has been talking to Bryan Murray about it...he also said he would play on a team with him next year until the NHL starts back up...The girl that Fedorov was all interested in from the group of girls looked like she was about 19

Burnett said a lot of AHL teams want him for next year if he doesnt come back here...

The bartender said those two are there a lot hanging out together...since Feds has so much pull with Murray I think he might get Burnett back on the team next year.

by the way Fedorov actually was wearing one of his stupid beanies...

I got each of them to sign drink coasters from the bar.

Call em Game Week Threads if you want. Or Game Interval Threads. GITs.

By the way, I'm not at all comfortable with the idea that Fedorov has "pull" with Murray, to the point of dragging his freakin brother over here.

hmm..what else...

also Feds asked my friend and I if we play hockey..and we said yes..and Feds said he was surprised and impressed with how many people in So. Cal are into hockey.

It was funny that of all the players on the team, Feds choose Burnett as his drinking buddy..they both live in Newport Beach apparently...I guess Burnett is Feds bodyguard on and off the ice...

also my friend bought Burnett a shot of Burnett's choice...but then he got my friend a shot that tasted pretty bad...and each time we went back over to get another drink it was all crowded and the bartender was busy, but then Burnett got the bartenders attention for us right away...he is a cool guy :yo:

:hyper: :hyper:

also...

Feds was only drinking mineral water, but Burnett was definetly having drinks.

Feds had a leather jacket style going with his beanie...but Burnett was more surfer style with a longsleeve surfer company tshirt...

Feds was just standing talking to a bunch of girls especially the hottest one who looked 19...Burnett was sitting down rubbing the back of one of his girls while he talked to us...

Feds spoke totally perfect english, Burnett was actually soft spoken, kinda mumbly..i had to lean in to hear what he was saying...

also the bartender said that usually the players mostly show up there during the summer...last summer Nieds,Krog, and Chouinard were there a lot...

the bar is called Malarkies(spelling?)by the way...

He needed arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in late August and sat out the first three weeks of training camp. The knee has not been the same since. He suffered a broken finger in the season's second game and then injured his elbow.

"It's unfortunate for Rooch that we weren't able to clear up the knee problem before the beginning of the season," Coach Mike Babcock said. "Then he got into the year, so he had to battle through not having his legs the way he wanted them."

Rucchin said that his knee needed rest, not another surgery. He turned down a chance to play for Canada in the World Championships this month, opting for rest.

"It's been the worst year of my career, in terms of all-around play," Rucchin said. "I'm not happy about it, and it's pretty tough to deal with on a daily basis."

i guess that' pretty much sums it up.

I played pick up hockey at Disney Ice yesterday. The Ducks had just finished practicing before us, and I saw Ozolinsh and Salei driving in Ozo's car away from the facility. Will they be back next year.....?

That hot model looking chick is Sergios girlfriend...the man has good taste in women.

Glad to hear of another person with a great encounter with Garret Burnett, everyone who meets him just says how great he is, i hope Sergei uses some of the pull he has to keep Garret around.

It has been nice to see Garret improve so much throughout the season he went from a fighter, to a guy who will throw hits,go to the net and stick up for his teammates.

Interesting about Sergeis little bro...shoulda asked Sergei if he could get his buddy Chris Chelios here!

Seriously, I don't know what's worse, having a bad team because the managment sucks, or having a bad team because the players don't try... All I can hope for is everyone to come ready next season. (I hope there IS a next season...) :banghead: :shakehead

-------------------------------

On the other hand, the Ducks haven't played a good game in a while, so we could see a win. (I hope Iginla doesn't score)

The outcome of this game will most likely decide whether we draft 7th,8th or 9th.

7th-Anaheim-74 pts
8th-Florida-74 pts
9th-Carolina-75 pts

Florida and Carolina are playing eachother.

If we lose to Calgary the 7th pick should be ours, even if Florida loses as well.

standings tiebreakers-wins(Anaheim 28, Florida 28), then head to head(Florida won only matchup of year dec 27 3-2 at Florida)

Way to go Garrett. Put your team shorthanded for 7 minutes. He just pulled an Avery. Good thing the PK'ers bailed him out.

We've had luck picking at 7.. Lupul is our only 7th pick of the draft, but he's doing ok.

Bobby Ryan Getzlaf
04-04-2004, 07:07 PM
Doesn't look like we'll be picking 7th now. Florida and Carolina tie, while we're winning. Hell, we may even pick 9th.

Kings just blew a two goal lead with 19 seconds to play. It's in OT now.

Wow.

McDonald19
04-04-2004, 07:39 PM
9th pick in the draft then:

7th-Florida-75pts
8th-Carolina-76pts
9th-Anaheim-76pts(tie breaker wins-29...Carolina had 28)

it was a great game.. i was on the glass side in the last period where we seriously lucked out. Calgary had some good cahnces during that last minute. there were a lot of Flames fans at the game. it was fun seeing the players give away their jerseys eventhough i didn't get one... it's funny.. when Sykora went to take his ejrsey off, all the girls in the arena were screaming including my gf..
