I moved this out to its own thread.
Good Find.
Viqsi 08-03-2009, 02:48 PM I don't know this guy at all. Any samples of his work?
Mellington 08-03-2009, 03:08 PM He sucks bring back Jim Day

Jim didn't do what management wanted of him (ie be a brainless drone), so they sacked him, or so it seems to me. Let's see if this new guy is the tool they want.
frito 08-03-2009, 03:36 PM Wow, with his educational background, maybe he can have a segment each game explaining the physics of the game.;)
Cannonsmoke 08-03-2009, 04:13 PM I liked Jimbo becuase he reminded me of a teddy bear, but he had the same hockey knowledge as a kmart shopping cart. Hopefully the new feller will be able to interview players with questions that have something to do with hockey.
ClevelandJacketFan 08-03-2009, 04:26 PM Thanks John Michael...
Nope, hate it. Fire him.
firethecannon 08-03-2009, 04:49 PM Just as long as he can read the script that the CBJ front office gives him he should be fine.
Skraut 08-03-2009, 05:04 PM I actually liked John Michael from listening to the Monsters game. It was difficult for him on TV because everything was simulcast.
Interesting though this move brings another Play-by-play guy into the group. Wonder if this is Rimer's replacement in a few years...

Some John Michael game calls.

lol... It might be like downtown Beijing in the Jackets booth from here on out..
Timeless Winter 08-03-2009, 07:45 PM John Michael forgot more about hockey than Jim Day knows.
Bad for the Monsters, good for the Jackets.
Timeless Winter 08-03-2009, 07:48 PM He sucks bring back Jim Day
You've never heard John Michael.
I think Michael is Rimer's eventual replacement, he can really call a game without looking like a horse's ass.

He will be just like the rest of them.. Say and Do only what the team says you can say and so he will suck nothing personal against the guy anyone they bring in will suck ..

If I had to bet money, Rimer's eventual replacement (hi Jeff!) will be another playbyplay guy already working at play by play somewhere, and not from "the guy who has to stand in the bowels of Nationwide interviewing sweaty hockey player at intermission." It's not exactly the role in which to hone your pbp skills.

This John Michael guy appears to have been the Lake Erie Monsters play-by-play for some time.
Cannonsmoke 08-03-2009, 09:56 PM Darn, I was really hoping we would get John Madden. My second pick was the old WWF guy that did the SLIM JIM commercials. "SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM, OH YEAH!"

Sorry, as someone who has listened to both, I'd rather listen to John Michael on the Radio than either George on the radio, or Rimer on TV. I see this as FSNOH getting another guy who can do the job in case some of the changes made this offseason don't work out/contract's expire.
I've said I didn't care for watching LEM games on TV because John Michael was simulcast on both Radio and TV, so was doing his radio broadcast, and "over talking" on the TV side.

warlockmb 08-03-2009, 10:26 PM Looks like with this pickup and also Bobby Mac from the Crunch the Blue Jackets want some emotion along with hockey sense in their Radio and TV coverage. I think that this is another great pickup and may get more people interested in TV and Radio!
This guy may be good, but he'll still have to grow on me.
Jim Day's replacement is like dating after a breakup: There's a good chance she'll be the rebound girl, and even though the new girl may be awesome, it just won't work out.
Feicht 08-04-2009, 02:56 AM I'm gonna miss Jim Day :(
Never thought I'd say that...

I don't think that's really going to hit home until the first game...
Viqsi 08-04-2009, 11:56 AM I am hoping that the Jim Day departure will be treated much like the Jody Shelley one. It's sad, we miss him, we hope he does well elsewhere, we'll never forget him... and oh wow look at these new guys! :)
pete goegan 08-04-2009, 12:48 PM Here's a link to a Plain Dealer article with more info on Michael:

When the highlight of you comentator's spiel is that one of the players pronounces your name funny... you have overstayed your welcome.
Get us more hockey guys. Good comentator's can promote and teach the game... we could use some positive influences.JimDay needs to do what he knows.. the Reds.:D
RichNash61 08-05-2009, 11:24 AM I think he will do just fine! I think his wife works for the Jackets as well!
