Here's (click) (http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=34795) a blast from the past for you.
Highlights:
At least that's the talk surrounding trade discussions between Oilers GM Kevin Lowe and Anaheim GM Bryan Murray. The rumour is that Lowe has asked Comrie to make a seven-figure payment to the team - one amount mentioned was $2.5 million - as a condition of completing a deal with the Mighty Ducks.
No, they HAD a deal until Lowe brought this up. So now its up in the air again.
Stupid broke Canadian franchises.
Lowe is the equivalent of the annoying kid on the playground who makes up new rules after he loses
I think I can sum up this whole thread in one phrase
Lowe is a jackass
Mike Comrie requested a trade. Diminishes his value.
Mike Comrie was holding out. Diminishes his value.
Mike Comrie indicates there are only certain teams he will play for. Diminishes his value.
It isn't like me and my job because I am free to leave whenever I want. I am not under contract. The NHL is an industry that has no competition so to compare to anything else is inaccurate.(Unless Mikey likes Siberia and borscht.)
What basically is being said as a generality is that Lowe is going to Comrie and stating that because he did so much to diminish his own value with all of the above conditions, the onus is on him to pay the piper if he wants to be out of Edmonton so bad.
What's being lost here is the fact that Murray, Comrie, and Winter thought they could get away with such a scheme. Murray figured he could rip the Oilers off, offering a very substandard [Perry and McDonald] package for Comrie.
Funny how willing we all were to get rid of Perry before Lupul.
