bumperkisser 07-12-2009, 01:27 AM So where do you guys see the ducks finishing in the west next year given our current roster right now(including wiz)
PS please give a spot too so if you voted 4-8th say 5th and then a lil reasoning behind it as well :)
Paul4587 07-12-2009, 02:06 AM Right now 4th-8th looks like a pretty safe bet, although other teams haven't finished tweaking their rosters yet so that may change. If I were to pick an exact spot I would say 6th, I think Detroit, San Jose, Chicago, Calgary and one of Dallas/Vancouver will finish ahead of us.
nilssont 07-12-2009, 06:36 AM 6-10 imo
jiggsawpuzzle35 07-12-2009, 11:05 AM Pacific Division Winners, bank on it. Come trade time, Murray will turn this team into Cup Winners.
Vipers31 07-12-2009, 11:18 AM 4-6 would be my prognosis.
snarktacular 07-12-2009, 11:59 AM I'm going to say 6/7. 6 if you really want a single spot. Not that I'm actually comparing other teams and saying "there's x teams better than us," it's just the way I size up our team and say "this is strong, but there's still weaknesses here and these question marks."
Offense is better. Shutdown forwards are a lot worse. Defense is young and likely to be inconsistent, but that may be countered by goaltending. They may take fewer penalties now (no Rob, no Pronger), but the team may not be as coherent since there isn't as obvious a theme of players.
caliamad 07-12-2009, 12:38 PM I think we have a realistic shot of winning the pacific, so I'm going with 2nd. However, if we don't win the pacific, I think we'll fall to 6th.
rountree9 07-12-2009, 01:04 PM I say 4th or 5th. The Ducks tend to have slow starts to the season. I think if they can start off the first 15 games with a solid record, they could win the pacific.
Slyintine 07-14-2009, 10:30 AM Top 4 if everything runs smoothly.
If not, 5-7, since Murray will pull some trade deadline magic and give us another playoff push.
Spankatola Jamnuts 07-14-2009, 01:26 PM I think we have a realistic shot of winning the pacific, so I'm going with 2nd. However, if we don't win the pacific, I think we'll fall to 6th.
Depending on what San Jose does I don't think we have a prayer of winning the division. Regardless of their playoff nutlessness, that's still an incredibly talented team.
jax00 07-14-2009, 01:28 PM Yeah, I don't think the Ducks have a shot at winning the Pacific. San Jose is still a stacked team that dominates the regular season.
Static 07-14-2009, 01:30 PM Depends on goaltending. If we get consistent goaltending then the team can get to the 5 spot. If not, we'll be battling for a spot again just to get in. I don't think we will win the division, however.
MEEPSTER4 07-14-2009, 01:59 PM After signing Wiz, I think our D is mostly solid which was my biggest concern. I'm thinking we'll win the division, slightly edging the Sharkies.
Davey Duck 07-14-2009, 02:28 PM Well, one reason they are so stacked right now is because they have a team that they can't put on the ice under the salary cap. They have like $1.6MM left and they only have 9 forwards signed. One or two players will likely have to go and be replaced by lesser players, so we'll have to see how the team looks after they fill out a legal lineup.
The rest of the division shouldn't be a worry, unless the Kings finally put it all together.

Can't help but agree. San Jose is far from done and they need to make some major moves to ice a full team. I could definitely see that "stacked" team deteriorate between now and October.
Pepper 07-14-2009, 03:55 PM Who knows what Wilson will still do in SJ before the season starts, that's abit of a question mark right there.
*IF* our 2nd line clicks, we have a chance to be in the top5. If not, it's gonna be a fight for places 6-10 again.
BraveSirRobin 07-14-2009, 04:10 PM I can see us finishing 5th or 6th, 7th at worst. While we could win the Pacific, I still think San Jose will take the division (even though they'll probably be bounced in the semi finals as usual)
c4rcy 07-14-2009, 05:59 PM Its quite a toss-up. Penalties matter. They seem to have got guys that cut the minutes down in penalties as opposed to last year.
If they can keep their PPA low, who knows what may happen.
I'm saying 4th or 5th. (Or maybe just hoping). I can't see us taking the division (though we do have a bit of a better playoff record).
Twindad 07-14-2009, 10:09 PM ESPN has the West here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?columnist=frei_terry&id=4311202
Not a bad take on things, I think the West is going to be really tough.
Pepper 07-15-2009, 04:25 AM AFter reading Sharks board, I feel slightly more optimistic. Looks like Sharks have some serious re-tooling to do, at the moment they have like 1M left in cap with 4 players to sign. Looks like they have trade one of their big players (Marleau or ZeeZoo) to make some cap room.
Talentless Practise 07-15-2009, 05:17 AM The Sahrks are a good regular season team but the Ducks are better than them at pretty much everything. No reason why they can't win the division.

I agree to an extent, but we have to play better against the lower seeded teams. We seem to have major suckage sometimes against bad teams.
Go_Krog 07-15-2009, 10:41 AM hopefully the added secondary scoring will help against lower teams for those nights when Getzlaf decides to just cruise.
im not buying dallas improving though, dont see much in their defense.

The Sharks have a better blueline and, until Lupul and Koivu prove they can play well with this group of players, better secondary scoring. They just dont have any notion of a heart nor balls.
