He's been on the roster for sometime now, there's another thread on it somewhere around here if you want to check out everyone's initial reactions.

I think we already went over this signing didn't we? Anyways, pointless pick-up by Murray IMO.

It's not pointless if we get hit with a lot of injuries again. We didn't have a veteran d-man we could call up last year and it hurt us bad. Murray isn't going to let that happen again. Hopefully McCarthy never has to be called up but it's nice having him as an option.

As long as he stays in the AHL 99% of the time, I'm fine with. I pray that it's a two way contract, anyone know yet? He should be way down on the depth cart and only play if there are a couple of injuries.

1.S.Niedermayer
2.Wiz
3.Whitney
4.Boynton
5.Sbisa
6.Brookbank (although I think Salcido should get a chance before him).
7.Salcido (Should be above Brookbank but he won't until at least half of the season.)
8.Festerling
9.Mikkelsson/McCarthy

If he doesn't see the big club much I'm happy. We have a veteran that can step in if a number of injuries occur. If he's moved ahead of Salcido and Festerling, well it's a terrible decision.

lol, this is great.... Murray is signing all the players he coveted as the Hawks GM. Good news for Anders Eriksson!

Yea, I really don't understand GM's fascination with players they drafted

They're more familiar with them and they drafted them for a reason. If it's down between a guy you just have a scouting report on and a guy you know quite well you're going to take the guy you know. I mean how many of us work where we work because we knew someone there and they were familiar with our work? Hockey is a business just like any other.
