Ducks Sign Steve McCarthy?

Hmm. Wonder why it hasn't been announced. I'm curious of the terms. It looks like he played last year in the KHL after sucking in his final year for Atlanta. Hopefully this is just a depth move or something.

For some reason I was confusing him for someone else and thought he would earn more money. After looking into it more I realized my mistake.

Did we sign him? I didn't notice anything about it.

The only thing I recall from him is that he had some issues with management in both Chicago and Atlanta (maybe). Not sure about this.

I know +/- doesn't mean much, but -23 in 55 games in 07-08 is impressive. He's kind of like the anti-Montador.

Not sure of the timing but I think Bob Murray drafted this guy in '99. (1st -23rd)

Weird signing, he's a liability defensively and has busted so far offensively.

Meh, at least he is tough for being offensive, as I've seen him fight on youtube. Hopefully and likely he will serve as a reserve defenceman and nothing more.

I can't add anything because I have no idea who this guy is, but from what you guys posted, he just seems to be a filler at #7

I'm starting to miss DiPenta lol... At least he could play defence, and was perfect for a reserve role. He was seriously bashed too much lol, I understand that now... He wasn't maybe someone to be on a SC champion team, but he would have been a quite good fit right now. Which probably isn't a good sign, but I'd much rather have him than McCarthy or Mikkelson as the 6th or 7th defenceman.

Is this a two way deal? If not it's bad news IMO. If it's a one way deal, it looks like we're faced with one of two problems: Either Salcido isn't going to be on the team, or we're not going to add any other defender besides signing Wiz.

Salcido has done everything he can to prove he's ready for the big club. If we don't have a spot for him, I hope we trade him, because he doesn't deserve to be treated like this.

Is this a two way deal? If not it's bad news IMO. If it's a one way deal, it looks like we're faced with one of two problems: Either Salcido isn't going to be on the team, or we're not going to add any other defender besides signing Wiz.

Salcido has done everything he can to prove he's ready for the big club. If we don't have a spot for him, I hope we trade him, because he doesn't deserve to be treated like this.

McCarthy could still be sent down to the minors even if it's a one way deal. The only thing that's to it, is that being on a one way deal he would still earn the same amount of money in the minors as he would in the big club. Sorry if you already knew this, but I got the impression that you didn't, but being a Swede I might misunderstand a few things every now and then :)

With our team budget, and lack of a minor league team (meaning we might not get as much money back from the minor league team for loans), then a 1-way contract pretty much means he's stuck in the big leagues.

If I were the owner, then yes I'd count that against the budget. After subtracting the salary of a normal minor leaguer first.

There's still Mikkelson and Festerling who both got a significant amount of games in last season. I want to see Salsa make the jump but regardless of McCarthy he still has to jump over Mikkelson and Festerling. In fact, one of those three, possibly two now, should be traded come training camp. We have too many bubble D-men now.
