This shouldn't surprise anyone, but figured I'd post it up none the less:

HELSINKI - Anaheim forward Teemu Selanne says next season will be his last in the NHL.

Selanne, a 10-time all-star from Finland, turned 39 Friday and told daily Helsingin Sanomat that a man that age does not belong in a league like the NHL.

"It is a forum for young boys", Selanne said. "But the right diet, rest and muscle care help to prolong a career. Personally I am injury-free, I feel young at mind and pursue a lot of activities."

Selanne contemplated retirement but has decided to play for one more season.

"The next season is without doubt my last. This time my decision will be kept," he said.

Selanne also pondered the possibility of playing with longtime Montreal captain Saku Koivu. The Anaheim Ducks could be a possible new team for Koivu, who is an unrestricted free agent.

"The chemistry between us two has worked well on the national team. It would be interesting to see how our interacting would improve if we should play together on a daily basis," Selanne said.

Selanne entered the NHL 1992 at age 22 with the Winnipeg Jets. In his first season he scored 76 goals, a record for a rookie.

Man, cheers to him for a great career, let's hope it ends on a very high note in the Olympics and with the Ducks. I'll be sure to attend some more games this year to catch Teemu Selanne in his last year.

One of the most classiest players you'll ever see in the NHL, what a career, I hope he goes out with a bang. We'll be behind him all the way.

Best alltime DUCK. Surely his number will be retired.

Makes sense. He's probably playing mostly for the Olympics.

And to get to 600. 21 more goals, and only 1 more than to tie Finn-mate Kurri. It's unlikely, but if he got 40 goals next season, then he'd become 15th in total goals, and surpass the Golden Jet Bobby Hull.

I also like the timing of this announcement. He may not have done it on purpose, but this helps Murray. It's nice to know a year in advance that we won't have to worry about resigning him. It just helps more with future transactions. He's definitely going to be missed. One of my favorite hockey moments was watching him and McDonald right before the buzzer went off for his first stanley cup win. He's an amazing player and definitely the best Duck of all time. He will be missed.

That's awesome. I don't envy your flight though. I flew from Oklahoma to Germany 2 years ago (with a stop in Atlanta), and it was the worst experience I've ever had in a plane.

Doesn't seem like anyone's heard this bit of new yet:
A report that Teemu Selanne reportedly told a Finnish newspaper (http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=283609) that this upcoming season would be his last is untrue. And the guy who says it's untrue is none other than Teemu Selanne.

The daily Helsingin Sanomat quoted Selanne as saying, "The next season is without doubt my last. This time my decision will be kept."

But a Ducks PR guy, wary of Finnish newspaper reports after what the Ducks went through during Selanne's delayed retirement decision two seasons ago, sent a text to Selanne asking him if this report it was accurate. And in no uncertain terms, he said it was not.

Selanne just turned 39 last Friday, and the paper also quoted him on how a player his age fits into today's NHL. "It is a forum for young boys," Selanne allegedly said. "But the right diet, rest and muscle care help to prolong a career. Personally I am injury-free, I feel young at mind and pursue a lot of activities."

Doesn't exactly sound like Teemu Selanne, but the Finnish-to-English translation can apparently produce some doozies.
