Who are you guys trying to convince that the style of Devils play is not boring. Of course you're not going to get much argument, considering 90% of the posters who come here are Devils fans. There should be a balance of offense and defense in hockey, but the Devils sacrifice most of their offense for playing defensively. No one is saying it doesn't work, you've proven it does. But no one says you're boring because we're "jealous". We don't say anything bad about the Avalanche or Red Wings, and we should be jeaous of them as well.

But I think you'll have a hard time with this argument on other team's message boards besides your own.

Observe the hater in his natural habitat. His rage flows from some unfulfilled desire or yearning. His babbling is incoherent, but he has discernable grunts for meal times, and when he feels threatened.

For starters I am a Ranger fan. However, I can look things objectively which people like 4check can't. Playing defense against a bunch of soft college players is a joke. The college level in general compared to the AHL and obviously the NHL is a joke. Helminen who the Rangers acquired from Edmonton in the Nedved deal is a vastly superior defensive player to Parise to which his college defensive honor speaks for itself. However, in the AHL he simply gets run over by huge centers and wings because the AHL is superior in size and talent to the college ranks.

Parise will never have the size to be a solid defensive, NHL player. I doubt Helminen will either. The truth is this. If Parise wasn't drafted by Lou nobody would give him half the hype he received. However, if they stopped and looked at Lou's draft record the past 6 years they would realize that Lou hasn't been drafting well. Gomez is not a great player. Elias is a great wing. He carried Gomez all year long. Gomez is a terrible playoff player and he's soft. Gionta is another non factor in the playoffs. Martin and Hale are average talents at best, hidden by the great Devil system.

Lou really hasn't produced jack like in the old days. Obviously his draft picks have been much lower. The bottom line is that Parise is a totally over-hyped prospect. Period. Considering the players Lou passed up after Parise you can clearly see he made a poor choice.

The problem for unsophisticated hockey fans, let's take Flyer fans for example, is that they just want to see the red light flash, like the kind that go off with too much frequency during the playoffs behind Flyer goaltenders. They are simple minded and easily amused by the glow. They can often be heard at hockey rinks saying, "Oh, look at the pretty light; me like pretty light," or some other such drabble.

I recommend that our dear Flyer fans stick to watching basketball. Why they have a gangster-rapping, practice-hating, no-championship-winning player to watch down in their city. He is the best role model for the community since Lindros was knocked out of town.

Besides, it looks to me like a typical Flyer fan has cried to sleep yet again as the Broad Street Bullies extended their streak to 28 Years without a Stanley Cup Championship. Twenty-Eight Years!!! It should also be noted that the city has not won a championship since the 1982-83 NBA title, and I barely consider basketball a major sport.

In conclusion, it should also be submitted for the record that the Philadelphia Flyers scored five (5) less goals than the New Jersey Devils in 2002-03. I normally do not like to use smiley icons, but one is really calling out to be used for all the Philadelphia Cryers fans who are reduced to calling the New Jersey Devils boring:

Elias - Top winger, could easily make 5M+...I'm hoping he is happy with the way his illness and return was handled and that he gets the respect (captaincy) he deserves.

Gionta - He makes 600K right now, best value in the NHL no question. I'm not sure if he has arbitration rights this summer, that could make things quite messy.

Gomez - He's due to hit UFA status soon and the type of contract he signs could signal if he's a Brodeur (happy to be a lifelong Devil) or a Niedermayer (jumps at his first chance at UFA). If he keeps scoring the way he has in the past couple weeks he will be considered a double threat (triple if you look at the way he takes the puck up the ice) and his contract will have to reflect that.
