More to come Captain Lou 07-01-2009, 01:20 PM As Derrick Coleman once said: "Whoop-dee-damn-doo" coolstorybro 07-01-2009, 01:20 PM hell yea, love the greene fence Game Breaker 07-01-2009, 01:20 PM I notified the cougar...no fangs coming out today thank goodness. Mr Bojanglez 07-01-2009, 01:21 PM I actually think Greene still has a bigger upside than most. He's a great skater. Just needs to toughen up. devilzrule27 07-01-2009, 01:22 PM I actually think Greene still has a bigger upside than most. He's a great skater. Just needs to toughen up. Don't tell that to BG or Das Uber. You'll create another board fight. BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 01:22 PM I actually think Greene still has a bigger upside There sure as hell cant be a downside. DEVILS ALL THE WAY 07-01-2009, 01:22 PM Good signing for a depth player. He's the perfect kind of guy you want when you need a "injury call up". P.S. Sorry CJ, but it's true.... it's damn true http://gerweck.net/kurtangle.jpg masterofgrond 07-01-2009, 01:23 PM I have no problem with this. I'm not a huge Greene fan, but he's a valuable 6th/7th guy if we have no other options. Saugus 07-01-2009, 01:24 PM I like this signing. Greene has more potential than a #7 defenceman. BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 01:25 PM I'm not a huge Greene fan, but he's a valuable 6th/7th guy if we have no other options. Exactly, it's a smart move. In the age of the salary cap, you need guys like Greene that make the league minimum. It's chess now. Not checkers, like when the Rangers and Blues etc.. would just toss bags of $$$$ at people. Captain Lou 07-01-2009, 01:25 PM There sure as hell cant be a downside. Amen to that. Clarkson Falls Down 07-01-2009, 01:26 PM Won't get a #6/7 that cheap. Unless that guy is Leach. devilzrule27 07-01-2009, 01:28 PM Exactly, it's a smart move. In the age of the salary cap, you need guys like Greene that make the league minimum. It's chess now. BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 01:31 PM Another year my dad can wear the jersey!! Are you suggesting a Greene jersey isnt as eternal as Stevens or Daneyko? :sarcasm: http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-taunt003.gif CMac17 07-01-2009, 01:32 PM I'd like to go on record as pretty happy about this one! None Shall Pass 07-01-2009, 01:36 PM There sure as hell cant be a downside.:nod: devilzrule27 07-01-2009, 01:41 PM Are you suggesting a Greene jersey isnt as eternal as Stevens or Daneyko? :sarcasm: http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-taunt003.gif I wouldn't taunt the cougar if I were you. http://icanhascheezburger.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/funny-pictures-fake-fish-was-taunting-cat.jpg BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 01:42 PM I wouldn't taunt the cougar if I were you. I do fear I might have gone a little too far that time. :D Colin Whites Eye 07-01-2009, 01:43 PM deal is 2 years according to TG BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 01:48 PM deal is 2 years according to TG That's smart too. If Greene does improve, then 2010/11 is at a bargain. http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Park/2070/ohyea3.GIF Das Uber 07-01-2009, 02:05 PM I actually think Greene still has a bigger upside than most. He's a great skater. Just needs to toughen up. Easier said than done. Posted via Mobile Device Devilswede 07-01-2009, 02:07 PM Yay...... ...meh... Game Breaker 07-01-2009, 02:15 PM Wow, Greene is getting a nice raise, 737.5 against the cap. feerlessleadr 07-01-2009, 02:16 PM 2 yr. 1.475 million 725k in yr 1 and 750k in yr 2 with a cap hit of 737.5k per tg http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/2009/07/devils-resign-andy-greene.html Clarkson Falls Down 07-01-2009, 02:17 PM What the ****? What's the point of not qualifying Greene if you're going to give him a bigger raise? Retarded. britdevil 07-01-2009, 02:18 PM It's about right for a 6-7 guy, but then I realised we could of just qualified him. What the hell? Colin Whites Eye 07-01-2009, 02:19 PM makes no sense why we didnt qualify him. devilzrule27 07-01-2009, 02:20 PM two way deal perhaps? BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 02:20 PM Wait, what? That dont make no sense at all? :dunno: Saugus 07-01-2009, 02:20 PM two way deal perhaps? Hopefully. I don't think Greene would make it through waivers without someone claiming him. Jiri Bicek 07-01-2009, 02:20 PM two way deal perhaps? I would think something along those lines.. There has to be a reason I Hate Tie DOMI 07-01-2009, 02:26 PM Posted this on the main board. Did Greene have abitration rights? If so Greene could have not signed the qualifying offer and elected for arbitration and gotten higher than the $725K he got. I don't know. I'm just throwing something out there. Game Breaker 07-01-2009, 02:32 PM He takes up 1.2% of the cap, you can't be serious if you have a problem with this. TheDevilMadeMe 07-01-2009, 02:37 PM What the ****? What's the point of not qualifying Greene if you're going to give him a bigger raise? Retarded. It's mind boggling. I mean, maybe we'll find out about some obscure part of the CBA that nobody but Lou knew about. Or maybe Lou is losing his marbles a little bit with age. The Grinder 07-01-2009, 02:38 PM Give Greene a regular role on the 3rd pairing. I think if the team puts a little more faith into him they will be rewarded. He has the speed and his hands and shot are not that bad either. Look at how low we all thought of Oduya a few years ago. Clarkson Falls Down 07-01-2009, 02:39 PM He takes up 1.2% of the cap, you can't be serious if you have a problem with this. You save money when you can, especially with a cap. CanadianDevil* 07-01-2009, 03:04 PM not bad, hes a good call up kinda guy who is mostly reliable when he comes up. CanadianDevil* 07-01-2009, 03:05 PM Look at how low we all thought of Oduya a few years ago. NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO SPEAK OF ODuYA OF A FEW YEARS AGO! captainscott 07-01-2009, 03:30 PM There sure as hell cant be a downside. good signing. but we need righty's Just Win 07-01-2009, 03:33 PM http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/2009/07/greene-happy-to-remain-a-devil.html Greene happy to remain a Devil With all that's been on Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello's plate in the last week -- draft, coaching search, free agency -- defenseman Andy Greene was willing to be patient. It paid off today when the Devils re-signed Greene, 26, to a two-year deal for $1.475 million. "I knew the process was going to take time with everything else that's going on with the coaching situation and the draft," Greene said in a phone conversation from his home Michigan. "So, I wasn't worried about it at all. I knew it was going to get done and wasn't really thinking about anything else." Greene's deal pays him $725,000 in 2009-10 and $750,000 in 2010-11. Greene became an unrestricted free agent at noon today. He would have been a restricted free agent if the Devils had made him the necessary one-year, $660,000 qualifying offer before Monday's 5 p.m. deadline, but they chose not to. Still, Greene said there was never a doubt in his mind that he wanted to be back. "New Jersey is the place where I want to be," he said. "I want to play there. It's a great atmosphere to play in and to be in. They do everything they can to take care of us there. You know what your'e getting when you're there, so it's the place where I wanted to be and I knew going into it that everything was going to be fine." Blitz113 07-01-2009, 03:34 PM Not a bad signing or anything but it basically looks as if the D will be the same exact thing as it was last season, and everyone knew that there needed to be an upgrade there. halyndon 07-01-2009, 04:19 PM makes no sense why we didnt qualify him. If lou qualified him and greene accepted the 1 year qualifier, he would be an ufa after next season. now we have him an extra year before he becomes ufa. that's the reason for the slightly higher salary. TheDevilMadeMe 07-01-2009, 04:31 PM If lou qualified him and greene accepted the 1 year qualifier, he would be an ufa after next season. now we have him an extra year before he becomes ufa. that's the reason for the slightly higher salary. Thanks. That makes sense. I guess they are hoping he gets better next year, which would mean he'd cost more as an UFA next offseason than this one. BenedictGomez 07-01-2009, 04:41 PM If lou qualified him and greene accepted the 1 year qualifier, he would be an ufa after next season. now we have him an extra year before he becomes ufa. that's the reason for the slightly higher salary. The moral of the story is that Lou is a genius, and that anyone who questions him is an idiot* *and will die of gonorrhea http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Park/2070/ohyea3.GIF halyndon 07-01-2009, 04:46 PM The moral of the story is that Lou is a genius, and that anyone who questions him is an idiot* *and will die of gonorrhea http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Park/2070/ohyea3.GIF so when greene has an oduya like season this year, we'll have him for 750k for an extra year instead of 3.5 mil!!!!!! 732DevilsFan 07-01-2009, 04:51 PM Fan of this signing. I always thought if given the opportunity Greene could become a great second pairing if the effort is there. He has the tools IMO BrodeurRULES 07-01-2009, 05:01 PM Woooooooot Wb Greene!!!!!!!!!!!! | ||
