Team MVP

Who has been our team MVP without Stevens in the lineup during the regular season?

Scott Niedermayer. Elias may carry our offense, but Niedermayer almost single handedly carried our defense since Rafalski got injured, plus he contributes offensively very well. In addition, throughout January he was the only decent catalyst in our offense. He's the mainstay of our power play.

Its close though.

I agree, Niedermayer has logged rediculous minutes. With out him I don't know where the Devils would be right now (and quite frankly I don't want to find out).

Brodeur. Without him, we don't even make the playoffs.

Nieds and Patty are having great years but Marty is the most important player the team has. Elias holds the offense together, Niedermayer is holding the defense together but Marty holds the team together.

Very, very tough call. All 3 are deserving. I went with Niedermayer. I don't know if the defence core would have survived had he not had the kind of season that he is having....

Right but Brodeur's performances between the pipes are just impressive.

Neids for Norris :yo:

Yeah, this won't happen, but I'd laugh my ass off...

Niedermayer gets Norris
Brodeur gets Vezina
Elias gets Richard
Some Devil gets Hart
Maybe throw in Gomez leading the league in assists :)

Talk about a power trio :)

Yeesh, I'm not so sure they aren't already. I mean...according to the members here:

- Roberto Luongo is better than Martin Brodeur already.
- Milan Hejduk is better than Patrik Elias.
- Scott Gomez is a bum and Gagne is light years ahead of him.
- Scott Stevens is a cheap shot artist.
- Langenfluffer.

It is annoying, isn't it? People just don't understand the talent that is needed to play the Devils system as well as we do. You can be Minnesota and play the system, but without skilled players the system doesn't work.

I don't know if it's talent that's needed to play this system. Players just need to buy into it and be accountable for their mistakes. The reason the Devils are successful is because there are no individuals. Just a group.

Defensive talent can be taught. Offensive talent can't be taught. You can either score or you just can't. That's the way it works. But if you're a guy like Jay Pandolfo and you're willing to work your ass off and learn how to play solid defense, you're a perfect fit for the organization.

I agree that the system doesn't work without a bit of skill mixed into things though. Without Elias and Gomez, the defense would have to work that much harder. I wish Pascal Rheaume was still a Devil and Igor Larionov just plain left.

Hmmm... Pandolfo has some scoring talent, it just hasn't manifested itself since his college days. I find myself constantly hoping that someday Pandolfo will be a 25 goal scorer again. :)
During the playoffs, I thought maybe it had happened.
For this season though, 13 goals isn't too shabby. ;)

Pandolfo and Stevenson...co-Richard winners 2005?

I think so... :joker:

I'll say Brodeur. If he didn't have a good first half, NJ wouldn't be in the playoffs.

Niedermayer is the MVP of the Devils and should win the Norris Trophy... Brodeur is a close second for MVP of the Devils...

If anyone here for a minute doesn't think that Marty Broduer isn't the Devils MVP for this year and the next 10, then you are sorely mistaken.

No Marty, no Cups, no success, no nothing.

Elias is awesome. Nieds is awesome. But when you're the best IN THE WORLD, you must take notice. Elias and Nieds can be replaced. Marty cannot. That is the definition of a team MVP.

But it isn't based on what players have done in the past, as much as I like Marty, I think it has to be Nieds. But I don't think the Devils make the playoffs with out either player.

Wasn't supposed to be based on the past. Just saying that now, always, and forever, he is the most important player to the Devils. He's a world away from every other goalie in the league. You cannot say that about Nieds or Elias.

Can we give it to Parise now?

I just wanted to post that I voted for Elias yesterday (before the Devils-Islanders game.) I think Elias deserves it because he is a major offensive threat and plays well in the defensive zone. Pittsburgh head coach Ed Olczyk told Chico Resch that Elias should could win the Selke this year.

NO, but Parise will win the Calder trophy next season for rookie of the year....

Isn't it 40 games or 1 playoff game to count as your rookie year?

He might not be eligible for the Calder.
