Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello acquired minor league center Ben Walter from the Islanders Tuesday in exchange for the rights to center Tony Romano. The Devils also received future considerations from GM Garth Snow.

Walter, 25, is a 6-1, 195-pound skater who scored 50 points (20 goals, 30 assists) with 10 penalty minutes in 65 games for Bridgeport (AHL) last season. He also appeared in four games for the Islanders.

Romano, who played last season in Peterborough (OHL), was the Devils' seventh selection (178th overall) in the 2006 entry draft. He scored 69 points (36 goals, 33 assists) in 65 games and had 86 penalty minutes. Romano is a 5-11, 175-pound center from Smithtown, N.Y.

Never liked Romano and we got a pretty decent AHL/NHL tweener out of it. Nice.

I'd say this is pretty minor news, and one thread already got deleted.

Good trade for Lowell. Walter sucks in the NHL, but he's a solid enough AHLer and will help out your kids. You always need AHL depth and this is a good move to get some.

Good AHLer, can fill in 4th line duty with the big club in a pinch. Good move. If he's got half the heart and character his father did, even better.

Damn, sad to see Romano go, but getting a guy like Walter is good for our AHL team.
