What can we expect Zach Parise to command for his next contract? He's a restricted free agent after next season. Wouldn't it be in our best interest to give him a contract before then? I know Zach is from Minnesota. Would he want to play for his homecrowd? Would he spurn the Devils for the highest dollar? Is it even conceivable that Lamoriello would let Parise walk? :amazed:

That's my point, though. If we let Zach even sniff arbitration, it might rub him the wrong way. Arbitration hearings are never pretty. Parise has shown himself to be an elite scorer. If Zach develops even more next season, teams are going to salivate and prepare outrageous offers to snatch him up.
It's my belief, Lou needs to sign him to a new long-term extension now. It'll show Zach we really want him to be a centerpiece of our organization for years to come. If Zach scores 100+ points (an almost foregone conclusion, I believe), his demands will increase.
He makes $3M next season and $5M the season after. He'll be 26 years old by then. I'm thinking along the lines of a 7-year @ $8M/per extension. He'll be 33 at the tail end, and considering his size, probably begin to decline?

You're right. My bad. Researched further.
