Like others I was convinced that Lamoriello was going to pick Schroeder. When I watched him play a few times he seemed like the best player on the ice to me. It does make sense to pick Josefson though. Schroeder is amazingly fast and has tremendous hands, but we did pick Mattias Tedenby last year, and Josefson already seems to have a friendship with him. Plus Schroeder might be listed as a centerman, but will probably end up on the wing in his NHL career. It does puzzel me a little bit though because Lamoriello's model has always been best player available and I wonder if Josefson was more attractive due to the circumstances.

Was a little disappointed initially, almost exactly like last year when we didn't take Carlson. Everybody seemingly had Josefson ranked a bit higher, just like Tedenby, so hopefully it works out. As others have noted, Conte seemed pretty stoked so I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

Good points but we were lacking depth at center and I honestly didn;t thinjk DeHaan was going 12th. when he went, and then Rundblad went...it was down to looking at an o-man. While schroeder was on the board, I thought we were going with erixon. Bang, Josepfson. I forget he was still available and we didn;t have to give up our 2nd to get him. He's not far from the NHL and in 2-3 year we could be seeing a pairing of Josefson/tedenby. He was touted as a low-risk and sure NHLer so I can't complain.


I just hopeKreider is a bust. I wanted him and the Rags picked him. I would think they wanted immediate help...

I really hope we don't take a goalie in the second or third rounds...save it for a later round. The goalie depth in this draft is horrible and the skater depth is amazing. Spend the pick on a player like Budish or Roussell instead of Roy.

I'm very excited about Josefson. He was someone who I thought would be gone for sure. De Haan was the guy who I wanted, ASSUMING that guys like Josefson, Moore, and Schroeder were gone.

Tomorrow I'd be ecstatic if we got Roussel, Elliott, or even Dumoulin. Once we get a defenseman, if we go to the wings I wouldn't mind Chiasson or Hanowski in addition to the bigger names. I'm interested in Budish but I don't know that I'd want to use a 2nd rounder on him.

I agree...go d-man with the 2nd rounder..we need tp build up some depth. I wanted ad-man first but there are still some good players out there for the second round. I'm hoping for Hanowski, Roussel, Pirri. Hegleson, McNabb, and then..mzaybe look at Roy, Lee, or koskinnen.

Me too, and Josefson might be the closest to the NHL which also may have contributed to their decision making process. I still think Schroeder was the best player available, but the Devils need help sooner rather than later.

NHLPA executive members Paul Kelly, Glenn Healy and Pat Flatley arrived unannounced at the tournament to present Brodeur with a painting to commemorate his record-setting season with the New Jersey Devils. Brodeur became the winningest goalie of all time late in the regular season and the NHLPA commissioned a painting based on a childhood photo taken of Brodeur making a spectacular save. The artist, Tony Harris, was also on hand for the impromptu presentation.

"It was wonderful. Marty was really touched and his dad was crying," NHLPA executive director Kelly told ESPN.com on Friday during the draft.

I would love to pick him, but like you said, I think he is going to be one of the first five taken in the second round, and also since we already picked a center I think it is time we pick a defenseman. Right now we are pretty solid up the middle with Zajac-Josefson-Cormier-Henrique-Wohlberg-Pelley etc...We need an offensive defenseman or a defensive prospect that is as close to NHL ready as possible.

Statistically it's not "hard" to tear it up against high school kids, but he has a great skillset. A lot of kids tear it up in high school, but only a choice few get the sort of recognition that he has gotten, for a reason. His combination of size, skating ability, hockey smarts, and hands are drool-worthy. He's a project, no doubt, but the tools are all there. In my three years of high school hockey I put up numbers not TOO far off what he did, but I rightfully didn't get attention from anyone outside of non-noteworthy colleges and when I went to an OHL training camp I pretty much gave up on hockey as a moneymaker (that didn't stop me from playing the field like an NHLer though :nod: ). But anyways, it's his skillset that sets him apart from the rest of the players who dominate high school.

They are handcuffing themself. I doubt the Sens have any interest in Redden, Gomez or Drury. The only possible salary dump i can see is Rozsival. And it will cost the Rags a lot.

One-Timer: Gelinas had 39 points in 67 games for Lewiston of the QMJHL this past season. He is a dependable two-way blueliner who has yet to fill out his lanky frame, and thus at present time is not much of a physical presence. He does possess good hockey smarts, however, and plays an intelligent game at both ends of the rink. Coaches rave about his willingness to learn and consistency of play. He states himself he patterns his game after Pronger, but will have to develop a more physical style of play.

On the ice, Gelinas benefited greatly from the coaching change, with an increased focus on consistent play and making smart decisions with the puck.

"He had a tendency to try to go through a whole bunch of people, go for that classic end-to-end rush and that's not a big part of anybody's game these days. Now when he moves the puck and joins the rush, he's become much more effective," explained MacAdam. "The biggest thing he's done is add a lot more consistency at a high level to his game and with that, he's just become a much more valuable player to us and I would assume catching the eye of scouts a lot more often. Whereas, early in the year, he had one good game and at least one, if not two or three, not so great games."

A converted forward, Gelinas pairs offensive ability with great skating and vision and is working hard to improve his physical play.

MacAdam views his physical ability as being a key piece to Gelinas' game, noting that "when he plays physical he typically plays considerably better," and pointing out, "he's got good size. At the moment, not a lot of great strength. I should say great height, he needs to certainly be serious about his training program this summer but he has the frame, the athletic build to really achieve some positives as a result of the physical training side. And when he does that, his skating is very strong now, his passing is excellent, his physical play is getting stronger, needs to get stronger and as he does get stronger, all those areas will improve."

International Scouting Services: A good package of size and mobility, he competes, showing a willingness to finish his checks and battle along the boards. He's an offensive defenseman who is effective on defense because of his skating and his wingspan. He's not a big hitter, but he doesn't shy from contact. In the second half of the season, he finished with 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 23 games. Gelinas should develop into a solid two-way defender who will take care of business in the defensive zone. He has average hands but does show some offensive instincts. At best when he keeps things simple.

Nice value pick for the Devils, but has through the roof upside. Like his raw offensive upside, and once he fills out, sounds like he should be a real force. Considering who was out there, I think the Devils made the right choice.

His offensive potential is limited and he has difficulty handling passes but does have a good slapshot. Urbom doesn't have the offensive vision to become an effective player in the regard and is at his best when keeping things simple.

Was Simon Bertilsson still available? I'd rather taken him. He seems to have a better offensive game but is a bit smaller(6' 183) but he's still swede so Lou would've liked him.

I don't think he does. I think he likes Frazee enough that he doesn't fin it necessary to go out and give up assets to draft a goalie. I'm sure we'll eventually take one for depth and all but I don't think its a need.

I sure hope your right, but he will probably stay even more close to what he knows when he goes into an environment that he isn't used to. I really hope he can, but I am not keeping my hopes up. I really like the Gelinas pick too, I think he was the BPA at that point in the draft for defenseman.

Even if Urbom pans out well, that's still years away. I wouldn't sweat it.

Roy will not make a good pro. He tends to go down alot by playing the butterfly and NHL players will easily pick the corners.

I think Vazzano would be a good choice at any pick here on out. Let him go to college for four years, because we do not need a goalie right now. Let him take his time, and he won't feel rushed either.

Well I am glad he is at least coming over this year. Good to see he has a reason to not be in Sweden and be in the CHL. That makes me like the pick a little more and makes the pick a little safer for us.
