Mike DYG 06-26-2009, 11:59 PM The Devils were not entitled to compensation from the Flames for signing Sutter, who still had one year left on his contract when he resigned on June 9. So, was it just a coicidence that the Devils made the trade with Calgary only three days after the Flames hired Sutter? "Total coincidence," Lamoriello said. http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/ Haha Sure Lou Das Uber 06-27-2009, 12:00 AM http://njmg.typepad.com/devilsblog/ Haha Sure Lou Hahaha. Das Uber 06-27-2009, 12:06 AM Good work. Now Roussel plz. dk3790 06-27-2009, 12:07 AM Some good quotes from Lou on Chere's blog. I'm too lazy to link. can someone link dk3790 06-27-2009, 12:08 AM Good work. Now Roussel plz. I second that. he tries to model his game as a more offensive version of Phaneuf. I definitely want him. kyle evs48 06-27-2009, 12:10 AM How long do you think before Roussel is taken? SixStringAddict 06-27-2009, 12:11 AM Hmm, Lou said that Josefson is going to come to camp this year. Devils9789 06-27-2009, 12:13 AM I was kind of disappointed that we didn't pick Schroeder or Moore at the draft party but after reading some stuff on Josefson i'm hoping for the best. dk3790 06-27-2009, 12:15 AM Good work. Now Roussel plz. Would you use our 3rd and 2nd to move up and then draft Roussel? Or would you draft roy with our 2nd and velishcek with our 3rd. hard choice. dk3790 06-27-2009, 12:17 AM Hmm, Lou said that Josefson is going to come to camp this year. its prospects development camp, not training camp. DevsOwnYou 06-27-2009, 12:19 AM I was kind of disappointed that we didn't pick Schroeder or Moore at the draft party but after reading some stuff on Josefson i'm hoping for the best. A friend of mine called me right before our pick and said either Schroeder or Josefson would be steals. We got one of them. Devils9789 06-27-2009, 12:19 AM 2nd round wish list: Jeremy Morin Drew Shore Stefan Elliott Zach Budish Das Uber 06-27-2009, 12:21 AM Would you use our 3rd and 2nd to move up and then draft Roussel? Or would you draft roy with our 2nd and velishcek with our 3rd. hard choice. I think Roussel is going to be a huge steal anywhere in the second round. dk3790 06-27-2009, 12:28 AM I think Roussel is going to be a huge steal anywhere in the second round. If we want to nab Roussel, we're most likely going to have to trade our 2nd and 3rd along with some other picks / players (unlikely). dk3790 06-27-2009, 12:34 AM did you guys see how much conte was smiling from the second he left the table to the second he got back? While it wasn't as enthusiastic as the Parise pick, Conte was definitely happy about this one. guyincognito 06-27-2009, 12:35 AM ummm no I actually wouldn't be surprised if we find out one day he has Parkinson's. the cup handout last season in Pittsburgh, he was shaking like a leaf and didn't look right. guyincognito 06-27-2009, 12:35 AM did you guys see how much conte was smiling from the second he left the table to the second he got back? While it wasn't as enthusiastic as the Parise pick, Conte was definitely happy about this one. I just thought he knew he could go to the strip club earlier now. Brodeur 06-27-2009, 12:39 AM Can't say I'm happy/mad about the pick....kinda like last year with Tedenby, Josefson just wasn't on my radar. Didn't expect Moore to be available for us, but hopefully it works out. MissionHockey 06-27-2009, 12:49 AM Can't say I'm happy/mad about the pick....kinda like last year with Tedenby, Josefson just wasn't on my radar. Didn't expect Moore to be available for us, but hopefully it works out. Like others I was convinced that Lamoriello was going to pick Schroeder. When I watched him play a few times he seemed like the best player on the ice to me. It does make sense to pick Josefson though. Schroeder is amazingly fast and has tremendous hands, but we did pick Mattias Tedenby last year, and Josefson already seems to have a friendship with him. Plus Schroeder might be listed as a centerman, but will probably end up on the wing in his NHL career. It does puzzel me a little bit though because Lamoriello's model has always been best player available and I wonder if Josefson was more attractive due to the circumstances. Brodeur 06-27-2009, 01:01 AM Like others I was convinced that Lamoriello was going to pick Schroeder. I was similarly convinced that it was going to be Moore. As they were cutting to commercial break after the Rangers' pick, I called the Devils' trading up with Calgary in order to leapfrog Anaheim who I figured would want Moore. Was a little disappointed initially, almost exactly like last year when we didn't take Carlson. Everybody seemingly had Josefson ranked a bit higher, just like Tedenby, so hopefully it works out. As others have noted, Conte seemed pretty stoked so I'll remain cautiously optimistic. Mark Scocco 06-27-2009, 01:08 AM Good points but we were lacking depth at center and I honestly didn;t thinjk DeHaan was going 12th. when he went, and then Rundblad went...it was down to looking at an o-man. While schroeder was on the board, I thought we were going with erixon. Bang, Josepfson. I forget he was still available and we didn;t have to give up our 2nd to get him. He's not far from the NHL and in 2-3 year we could be seeing a pairing of Josefson/tedenby. He was touted as a low-risk and sure NHLer so I can't complain. I just hopeKreider is a bust. I wanted him and the Rags picked him. I would think they wanted immediate help... Harrison Ford 06-27-2009, 01:15 AM I really hope we don't take a goalie in the second or third rounds...save it for a later round. The goalie depth in this draft is horrible and the skater depth is amazing. Spend the pick on a player like Budish or Roussell instead of Roy. yakitate304 06-27-2009, 01:16 AM I'm very excited about Josefson. He was someone who I thought would be gone for sure. De Haan was the guy who I wanted, ASSUMING that guys like Josefson, Moore, and Schroeder were gone. Tomorrow I'd be ecstatic if we got Roussel, Elliott, or even Dumoulin. Once we get a defenseman, if we go to the wings I wouldn't mind Chiasson or Hanowski in addition to the bigger names. I'm interested in Budish but I don't know that I'd want to use a 2nd rounder on him. Mark Scocco 06-27-2009, 01:18 AM I agree...go d-man with the 2nd rounder..we need tp build up some depth. I wanted ad-man first but there are still some good players out there for the second round. I'm hoping for Hanowski, Roussel, Pirri. Hegleson, McNabb, and then..mzaybe look at Roy, Lee, or koskinnen. MissionHockey 06-27-2009, 01:40 AM I was similarly convinced that it was going to be Moore. Me too, and Josefson might be the closest to the NHL which also may have contributed to their decision making process. I still think Schroeder was the best player available, but the Devils need help sooner rather than later. martyisgod 06-27-2009, 01:48 AM didnt see anyone post it yet ..so I wanted to share.. Pre-draft: Surprise! Burnside: A nice gesture by the National Hockey League Players' Association to make a surprise appearance at Martin Brodeur's charity golf tournament near Montreal on Friday. NHLPA executive members Paul Kelly, Glenn Healy and Pat Flatley arrived unannounced at the tournament to present Brodeur with a painting to commemorate his record-setting season with the New Jersey Devils. Brodeur became the winningest goalie of all time late in the regular season and the NHLPA commissioned a painting based on a childhood photo taken of Brodeur making a spectacular save. The artist, Tony Harris, was also on hand for the impromptu presentation. "It was wonderful. Marty was really touched and his dad was crying," NHLPA executive director Kelly told ESPN.com on Friday during the draft. Clarkson Falls Down 06-27-2009, 02:25 AM Speaking of draft threads, is the Rangers board exempt from the obligatory "1,000 post = lock" rule? That thing is hella long. Darius Dangleaitis 06-27-2009, 03:03 AM Good work. Now Roussel plz. Yeah huh. Roussel Tatar Haula Roy Budish Those guys are high on my list. Although I'm open to surprises. I didn't know who Cormier was before last year's draft and looooooooook aaaaaaaat hiiiiiiiiiiim nooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww. I'm pissed Caron is gone but there was zero chance he would be around at our 2nd. kyle evs48 06-27-2009, 03:16 AM I still find it funny how Calgary compensated us. BenedictGomez 06-27-2009, 03:19 AM I still find it funny how Calgary compensated us. Yup, that was a definite wink, wink, nudge, nudge deal. Yet it doesnt appear dishonest, because an 84th pick is still somewhat decent. yakitate304 06-27-2009, 03:23 AM I just hope that the 3rd doesn't turn into a Henrique or Cormier, much less a Chara (I think he was a 3rd rounder...). Gunnar Stahl 30 06-27-2009, 03:51 AM its funny how diry players always seem to end up in philli avery and pronger should be fun, hopefully pronger keeps his elbows off parises face Michael Scott_* 06-27-2009, 03:56 AM You guys got a real good one in Josefson. I think his peak could be like Zetterberg, while his bottom is elite third line center. He seems like the safest pick in the draft. Good luck. After the Devils made their pick, I went out to party with some friends for my birthday. And I just realized that Mr. Ferraro wasn't picked last night in the first round! That's ****ed, whoever gets him in the second will get a damn good second round pick. Can we trade our 2nd and third to move up to get him? Or something, I dunno, him being there in round 2, I bet he goes first pick tomorrow. Or he should. Harrison Ford 06-27-2009, 04:40 AM Wait, wait. I certainly wouldnt mind picking him, but I think if we trade up it is going to be for a defenseman. I really hope we can get Roussell, but if Lou and Co. picked Ferraro instead I would still be very happy. Devilsfanatic 06-27-2009, 04:41 AM I certainly wouldnt mind picking him, but I think if we trade up it is going to be for a defenseman. I really hope we can get Roussell, but if Lou and Co. picked Ferraro instead I would still be very happy. He's fast man, and so solid defensively. Zajac-Josefson-Ferraro down the middle would be oh so good for so many years. Clarkson-Ferraro-Halischuk future 3rd line. OMG. Harrison Ford 06-27-2009, 04:44 AM He's fast man, and so solid defensively. Zajac-Josefson-Ferraro down the middle would be oh so good for so many years. Clarkson-Ferraro-Halischuk future 3rd line. OMG. I would love to pick him, but like you said, I think he is going to be one of the first five taken in the second round, and also since we already picked a center I think it is time we pick a defenseman. Right now we are pretty solid up the middle with Zajac-Josefson-Cormier-Henrique-Wohlberg-Pelley etc...We need an offensive defenseman or a defensive prospect that is as close to NHL ready as possible. yakitate304 06-27-2009, 04:48 AM Not only you my friend. Not hard to tear up HS against weak kids. Do it against real competition then talk to me. I'm very glad we got JJ instead of Kreider. Steal. Statistically it's not "hard" to tear it up against high school kids, but he has a great skillset. A lot of kids tear it up in high school, but only a choice few get the sort of recognition that he has gotten, for a reason. His combination of size, skating ability, hockey smarts, and hands are drool-worthy. He's a project, no doubt, but the tools are all there. In my three years of high school hockey I put up numbers not TOO far off what he did, but I rightfully didn't get attention from anyone outside of non-noteworthy colleges and when I went to an OHL training camp I pretty much gave up on hockey as a moneymaker (that didn't stop me from playing the field like an NHLer though  ). But anyways, it's his skillset that sets him apart from the rest of the players who dominate high school. Oh, he got drafted by the Rangers? he sucks britdevil 06-27-2009, 08:19 AM Let's get it started up again allready!!! I'm going with Ferraro as the 31st pick. Eric Gelinas – Defenseman Date of birth: May 08, 1991 Place of birth: Ottawa, Ont., Canada Ht: 6-4 Wt: 185 Shoots: L One-Timer: Gelinas had 39 points in 67 games for Lewiston of the QMJHL this past season. He is a dependable two-way blueliner who has yet to fill out his lanky frame, and thus at present time is not much of a physical presence. He does possess good hockey smarts, however, and plays an intelligent game at both ends of the rink. Coaches rave about his willingness to learn and consistency of play. He states himself he patterns his game after Pronger, but will have to develop a more physical style of play. NHL Player(s) Comparison: Braydon Coburn Crimson Devil 06-27-2009, 11:32 AM THEY DIDN'T TAKE ROY. AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I'm freaking out. britdevil 06-27-2009, 11:32 AM He scored 10 goals and 29 assists in the QMJHL. Das Uber 06-27-2009, 11:32 AM Gelinas is a good pick. DevilsFan38 06-27-2009, 11:32 AM http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/11306/2009_prospects_eric_gelinas/ On the ice, Gelinas benefited greatly from the coaching change, with an increased focus on consistent play and making smart decisions with the puck. "He had a tendency to try to go through a whole bunch of people, go for that classic end-to-end rush and that's not a big part of anybody's game these days. Now when he moves the puck and joins the rush, he's become much more effective," explained MacAdam. "The biggest thing he's done is add a lot more consistency at a high level to his game and with that, he's just become a much more valuable player to us and I would assume catching the eye of scouts a lot more often. Whereas, early in the year, he had one good game and at least one, if not two or three, not so great games." A converted forward, Gelinas pairs offensive ability with great skating and vision and is working hard to improve his physical play. MacAdam views his physical ability as being a key piece to Gelinas' game, noting that "when he plays physical he typically plays considerably better," and pointing out, "he's got good size. At the moment, not a lot of great strength. I should say great height, he needs to certainly be serious about his training program this summer but he has the frame, the athletic build to really achieve some positives as a result of the physical training side. And when he does that, his skating is very strong now, his passing is excellent, his physical play is getting stronger, needs to get stronger and as he does get stronger, all those areas will improve." Just Win 06-27-2009, 11:32 AM International Scouting Services: A good package of size and mobility, he competes, showing a willingness to finish his checks and battle along the boards. His offensive potential is limited and he has difficulty handling passes but does have a good slapshot. Urbom doesn't have the offensive vision to become an effective player in the regard and is at his best when keeping things simple.
