What every Vancouver Giants fan was fearing finally happenned today. I heard that the 2nd overall pick in the 2002 Bantam Draft Daniel Bertram decided to go the NCAA Route as he's signed a letter of intent with Boston College. Upsetting, a bit. Only because I think Bertram-Brule would have been a great combo, and I think both would have been drafted in the first two rounds in the 2005 entry draft. Bertram will do well in the NCAA, he's aggressive play will help him a lot. However, as a WHL fan i'm upset that he decided to go the NCAA route. Bertram knows whats best for him, and there is a life after hockey and the University education will help him achieve that. Good luck Daniel, from a Giants fan.

How big is Bertram, and his weight, because if he is as good as they say I don't know why he is going to college unless he is small and weak? I had one father say to me that college is the best root with 25 games and lots of practices. I told him the WHL teams play 72 games and practice every day with probly one day off per week. So how is college better other than a education. And you really can't use that because 3/4 of Canadian University is ex Dub players. WHL is alot rougher than US college, so if Bertram is weak then maybe that is a good place for him.

I'm not sure on his specs, but I think he's something like 5'10''. He's not very big. But he is keen on getting the education hence the college route, not really beacuse he's 'small and weak.' But it would have been sweet to see him and Brule play together.

He's 5'11 175LBS and only 17 Years Old. He is not weak at all. He's a good player, uses his size well, and has excellent puck control. Yes, the WHL is maybe better for exposure, however Bertram has a legitimate shot in playing professional hockey following NCAA. The WHL players in the CIS are not players who could or had a long storied professional career. Bertram has a shot at the NHL. If you do not know him as a player do not comment negatively on him. NCAA or CHL? That's the question, it's different for everyone.
Oh yeah, he won the AJHL Rookie of the Year. That's a pretty physical league, full of huge Albertan players.

And he never backed down when players tried to push him around. He'll be fine.

It's not surprising that Bertram went the NCAA route since he basically seemed to make up his mind half-way through the season.
It's too bad that Bertram won't join Brule and form a dynamic duo...and the Giants get nothing to show for such a high pick.
It's not a bad move for Bertram - Getting a good education while developing his pro aspirations. If he feels his size is such a weakness, perhaps he needs to work on bulking up and getting good balance on his skates.

5'10 168, but his skating is amzing, nobody is college will catch him!
