Apparantly CKAC in Montreal is reporting this.

I guess there is some sort of agreement for him to go as soon as his contract expires.

Burke???

Maybe he'll sign some of our old players like we did from Vancouver.

I really hope this isn't true. Anaheim has arguably had the most consistent goaltending in the league, largely attributed to him. This could be a huge blow for us.

Tough to swallow but not unexpected. Burke saw what Allaire did in Anaheim and with the endless amounts of cash at his disposal it was really just a matter of time really.

But make no mistake this WILL affect us, good organizations keep their employees in house. That's what keep the Detroits the Detroits year in and year out.

I wish him the best in Toronto. He definitely played a part in bringing us our Stanley Cup!

Burke's obsession with bringing guys from his past jobs to his present ones continues to be annoying.

As for Allaire, the guy could hardly be bothered to show up here half the time.

This really sucks..he was the reason Hiller wanted to come here in the first place.

Does anyone think Burke uses Allaire as bait to pull either Giggy or hiller to Toronto?

No. Now he's signed in two places. What to do??

Nope. If anything it's bait to lure Luongo to Toronto. Our guys aren't his only pupils.

If he so much as mentions either you slap him for tampering. Leafs picks will always be good to have.

This doesn't bode well for our future in net, he's arguably the reason our goaltending has been so solid over the last few years. Does anyone know if there are any competent replacements available??

I think I read somewhere Anaheim had to agree to let him go.

I wonder if this is some major pre-arranged deal with Burke, Murray, and Jiggy.

Probably not, but I can always look for the silver lining :naughty:

The same thought occurred to me. I don't think it affects Jiggy since he's got roots and wants to stay here, but it might very well affect Hiller. He's a UFA after next season, and Toronto would have a spot open for him (unless you expect Pogge to do something in the NHL... hehe) since Toskala's also UFA after 09-10.

It would certainly help the Leafs if they don't get Gustavsson. And I haven't been reading or caring about the guy, but had Gustafwhatever worked with Allaire like Hiller had? Maybe the hiring was part of trying to entice him to sign?

For Allaire it makes sense too. It's closer to his home in Montreal. And I'm sure Toronto offered plenty of rea$on$ to join.

Here's something to think about. Allaire was our goaltending consultant, not coach. He didn't work here full time. He's been hired to be Toronto's consultant.

Any chance he does both? More money, and he doesn't work full time anyways.

The only good thing i see coming out of this is that Toronto is my second favorite team. But once Burke went there i knew there would be some poaching from my first

Does anyone know what sort of compensation, if any, the Ducks get? Will it be a draft pick, a player, cash or nothing?

The money and the location (close to Montreal) probably was too much for Allaire to reject.

I don't believe it's possible to get a player or pick for compensation. Possibly cash, but I don't think so either.

Do you think when Jiggy's contract is up they'll hire him as a "consultant"? Is he good enough to be one?

I was thinking more of Guy Hebert then Jiggy, he was with the organization for a while after he retired. We just haven't seen much of him lately.

Would he be allowed to? I'm not sure if there's any league rules that would allow him to be employed by two teams. Then again, he's just a consultant, so maybe that wouldn't quite tie him down to one team?

That's what I was thinking. Kind of like how if you're a Nobel-caliber scientist, you can be a consultant on the payroll of a lot of companies.

Who knows if the league allows it or not.

On XM today Burke said that Allaire told him last summer he wouldn't be back. He told Murray he'd either go to Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa, and Burke pitched him the best.

Pretty smart of these guys to wait until the kids are less annoying and more able to carry on a conversation before developing the yearning to be near them.
