i must say ive studied up in this years draft alot... but not alot about my own teams draft options... its saddening.

im aware we do not have a 2nd/or a 4th am i right?

does anyone else see trading down the 15th as an option to aqcuire more for this year? i know NY could be interested, also maybe toronto could set up a package... anyone else have any other potential options?

Yeah I see trading down as our best option.

If we're going to trade those extra draftees for useless stiffs i don't think it's worth it.

It all depends obviously on who they want/who falls to them. Another thing to point out is who the think might be around with the second pick they would acquire by trading down.

Someone posted on the prospects board I believe that the draft history of the team that trades down isn't usually very good.

I try to just keep an open mind and have faith in the scouting system we have in place. I am not going to pretend to know more than these guys. I just hope whoever they target are the guys we end up with.

i agree completely that trading down doesnt always work well, but at the same time, seeing how thin we are when it comes to quality forward prospects, ithink we should take the risk.

and yes it all clearly depends on who managements plans on taking. but with such a 'deep draft'( seems like i hear this every friggin year now), maybe we should take a chance on trying to restock the shelves and hope to try and pull out an oscar moller type of pick while still being able to get a quality 1st round pick.

all im saying is id hate to see us grab a player at 15th and see him become a bust... rather than grabbing 2 quality players, maybe 3 and taking a chance on them.

now THATS something i understand... the one move i was actually pissed to see we made. BUT... before the trade it looked pretty awesome to me to see we got a quality defenseman and forward. and was i the only one who was glad we didnt grab myers? i think gardiner was the perfect pick for the situation... once scotty leaves us we have a potential star waiting underneath. (hopefully later than sooner)

but this year if it means making the same type of deal should we be interested? i say hell yes we should. plus i think we could aqcuire a bigger package deal than we got last year with this pick.

I also didn't want Myers. I was worried about the type of prospect he was (lots of potential, huge bust potential because he was so raw).

Although I didn't mind trading down in 08. My pet picks were Sbisa, Carlson, and Teubert. Possibly Eberle. 3 of those might have been excellent moves. And I still think O'Dell has some promise (as sucky as the subsequent trade was).

07 had a decent trade down too. Now we ended up with MacMillan, who is being discussed in the other thread. But the 2nd turned into Tangradi, who looks like an excellent prospect. Until we again made a trade which I don't like for Whitney.

As to this year, yeah trading down could be a good move. There appears to be a very broad plateau around #15, meaning we might get just as good a player later. For example I kind of like Carter Ashton, but he's been dropping down to the bottom of the 1st round or even below. I'm also intrigued just as much by later guys like de Haan, Kreider, or Rundblad as the higher guys around #15 like Moore, Holland or Ellis.

I personally would rather make a run for a top 5 pick then just trade down unless we get a 2nd rounder or late 1st rounder to move down to no later then 20th overall.
