The news and notes section says that Niedermayer's goal in the Panthers game last night, his 8th career overtime winner, is a new record for NHL defensemen. Nice how that's relegated to a sidebar note.

Well, when it happens the same night Brodeur gets #400, I can see where it gets pushed aside. Funny that nobody has mentioned it till now, though.

Well, if Rob Blake or Niklas Lidstrom did it, the hockey pundits would be creaming themselves. We need to apply for "most favored team" status or something...

Hmm, maybe if we had that they wouldn't take so many of our goals away.

Yet another example of Nieds not quite getting the respect he deserves...

CBS.Sportsline Award Watch:

Scott is listed as the top candidate for the Norris, but not only is the picture wrong, the poll itself lists him as ROB Niedermayer. :shakehead Rob is currently third in the poll, BTW.

It would be funny if Rob Niedermayer won the Norris by mistake. :joker:

Yes i was waiting for this record to be broken by the future Norris Trophy winner Scott Niedermayer...He was stuck at 7 goals with Brian Leetch and now Niedermayer is all alone at the top with 8 goals...

Niedermayer and Brodeur will have a half a puck for last night's game as they both made the record books last night.
