-London off to good start as expected, sweeping the Spits.

-Doesn't look like Elechner (sp?) will be enough for the #8 seed in the east to upset Toronto, as the Majors have gotten out to 3-1 series lead...... Elechner (sp?) has kept the scoring down however.

-Brampton and Ottawa are now currently knotted at two, in a series that has had a couple go into O.T...... I think this one may go seven.

- Erie's built a 3-1 series lead against #2 in the west Sarnia, Erie is a tough checking team with enough scoring to be successful, so I don't think this would be much of an upset..... looks like more first round trouble for the Sting this year.

- Kingston and Barrie have got a hate on in this series, as it has probably been the most physical. Barrie has the series lead 3-1 with Crombeen playing well for Barrie.... Although both teams are scoring in this series.

- Guelph jumped out to the 2-0 series lead on the Attack, but Owen Sound has now evened the series by shutting down some of the Storm's big guns and getting quality goaltending from Gherson.... Game 5 should be interesting as the Attack are giving the heavily favoured Storm a run for their money.

- Low scoring battle between Missy and Oshawa has been tied up a 2-2, very strong goaltending from Turple and Shantz in this one.

- Kitchener vs. Plymouth, has seen Plymouth backup Nie step in and play well to generate a 3-1 series lead for the Whalers. Meanwhile Kitch is having trouble playing up to their potential with lots of injuries and suspension..... don't see the defending Mem cup champs bringing this one back.

The 2nd round matchups in the West started to take shape last night as #7 Erie won their series and Plymouth knocked out the Champs, so....

London and Erie are set as 2nd round opponents and Plymouth will wait for the winner of the Guelph/Owen Sound series.

I'm looking forward to London/Erie, Erie will be a heavy underdog, but they play a sound defensive style and they've got a lot of guys willing to get in the face of the Knights top scorers..... guys like Platt, Blunden, Patterson and Campoli. I think this series is going to have a lot of intensity and bad blood.

Both second round matchups in the West should provide good games.

Erie has been the little engine that could all year - I think London will find them a little more to handle than Windsor, but I really don't expect an upset here.

Owen Sound/Guelph vs Plymouth - Plymouth played well against Kitchener but it's difficult to tell how well they really played. Had Kitchener been halfway healthy, I think they'd have taken this series. Nevertheless, Plymouth has a lot of weapons (Mitchell, Wiz) and a rookie goaltender who hasn't looked like a rookie at all. An Owen Sound/Plymouth series will go to 7 and it's a tossup; Guelph should take the series if they advance.

No shot, the winner of the Western final (LOndon or Guelph) will take the Eastern winner in four straight. There is great disparity in the divisions this year.

Im going to agree with doggone dawg. The two best teams in the league are in a "showdown" and im expecting nothing but the best hockey. Hopefully my Storm can pull it off as they will be hot after winnin 5 straight. But even worse is London's 8 in a row!

Oh well, none the less i'll be listening to each game :)

Just like Anaheim was going to be swept in 4 straight by New Jersey right? Don't get me wrong I think London (or Guelph) will take the championship but you're underestimating the East to think they can't even win one game.

Try 14 in a row (dating back to the regular season) and 24 of their last 25, but the one loss was to Guelph..... should be an excellent series!

They looked a little sluggish and MacDonald had a bad game.... Coleman should get the call for game 2. Maybe he can help change London's fortune in game 2, he had the better record against Guelph in the regular season.

Coleman played big...without him the Knights go down without a fight. Tonites game was probably the biggest travesty in refereeing that I have witnessed since the Canadian Women's Hockey Olympic final. There is a real chance that the ref bet on the game or something. I've never seen anything like the first period. :banghead:

Right... in Game 1, Smola lets Guelph get away with murder and the Knights are angry.

In Game 2, Beer doesn't let Guelph get away with murder and the Storm are angry.

I think it's worked out pretty fair, actually.

Through the first two games, the series has been everything we expected - fast paced, good forechecking, highlight reel goals, good goaltending. The rest of the series ought to be great!

The reffing hasn't been horrendous (but keep Hobor the hell out of both rinks!), just different styles. Smola is definitely a "let them play" kind of ref, and he let a fair bit on both sides go uncalled in game 1, unless it had the potential to affect the score. Beer, on the other hand, called a bunch of penalties early on in the game (London was the beneficiary of Guelph's undisciplined play - this wasn't the ref that put them in a 2-0 deficit), but missed quite a few himself - even the Sportsnet guys were shaking their heads at a couple of the calls.

i'm a ranger fan and i'm going to the game in guelph tonight. i don't know who to cheer for. or, more appropriately, who to boo at. i feel like i should dislike guelph more as a ranger fan but i really think i dislike london more. but, on the other hand, it is always fun to cheer for the away team (aka boo the home team). any suggestions on who i should cheer for?

Charlie_Girl
04-18-2004, 06:16 PM
I'm a Ranger fan too, and this has been interesting....... Our ultimate rival is Guelph, but I really don't like London. I'm cheering for Guelph (which feels really odd), because I think it would kill me to see Logan Hunter's name on any OHL trophy, and I am not a fan of Hunter Hockey.

If London wins the OHL (they seem to be having difficulty with Guelph - assuming they get past Guelph, and would still have to get past the Eastern champ), then I will be very happy for the fans who have stuck it out with the Knights in good and bad - the fans will get my congratulations, but not the team.

Yes, I am a Guelph fan, nut also very much a realist. London deserved to win tonite, they outplayed Guelph in the second and third periods. However, I think Game 1 was well reffed, Game 2 horribly called, Game 3 decent, and Game 4 questionable. London's penalties tonite were penalties, but other calls were not made on both teams that probably should have been made.

The biggest difference was that Guelph scored on their PP while London didn't. Until the last two minutes, penalties called were close to even if I recall (i didn't check).

Anyway, a good series. ONE MORE.

i ended up cheering for london. i couldn't resist the temptation to cheer for the away team. i was giving it to dennis hard in the second period. unfortunatly london couldn't score that period and guelph scored twice giving the guelph fans plenty of ammo to heckle me with.

as an unbiased observer (that is to say i'm not really a fan of either team) i can say that perry's penalty in the last couple of minutes was absolute horsesh!t. it ruined a terrific game. that same check must have happened about a dozen times that game with each team doing it. it looked like it was going to be such a close ending to the game with guelph up 3-2 with london pressing until that penalty was called.

good luck to both teams in game 5.

I'm not sure where you were sitting, but the Perry call was good. It was a clear shot to the back of the head (I watched the game on TV, so I saw the replays as well).

It's unfortunate that Perry felt that whining and complaining, so much so that he ended up with a misconduct, was the right response. Steadman's antics immediately following were just as foolish.

I think London played very well last night, but Guelph found a way to win. I expect London to come out strong in game 5 - should be a great game!

i agree that normally that is a penalty but that same hit hadn't been called many times during the course of the game. i, however, did not have the benefit of a replay.

I tried the JLC bOx office....busy for two hours. Ticketmaster did not put up tickets for availability. Nice...London hogged all the tickets from us Guelph fans. An official has already made a bad call that allowed the game to go two games longer than it would have.

Ticketmaster put up tickets at 10AM sharp on Sunday morning for anyone who wanted them. I have a friend in Toronto who is coming and who bought the tickets when they went on sale. The internet allotment sold out in 5 minutes so if you weren't on top of things you wouldn't have got any... no fault of TM's or the Knights, though!

Guelph takes the first game 4-1. Shantz stood on his head, but Guelph just kept coming. Mississauga seemed to be back on their heels a bit for most of the game; Dennis played a good game but didn't face many shots.

O'Sullivan scored for Mississauga
Janssen, Trudell, Callahan, and St. Pierre (EN) scored for Guelph

The first game was pretty cleanly played, but I have a feeling game 2 is going to be chippy.
