I've heard a rumour that you guys just signed this kid to a pro contract, he was the leading goal scorer for his college team in Fairbanks and racks up some major pims.

Does anybody have a good idea what his short term future looks like, or what the Devs have planned for his future? Is there room for that kind of player on the big team anytime soon or is he still a long ways away?

I'm sure that the obvious plan is to get him into a few Rats games down the stretch and then have him try out for that team next season, but I don't keep close tabs on the eastern conf teams or college players who aren't Oil prospects.

Any info would be muchly appreciated. Thx in advance.

I followed about half the Fairbanks games this year, this guy could steal a spot for the team next year but I would think he will play 1 or 2 years in the AHL for seasoning. Not many pass right into the devils lineup without the AHL treatment.

He seems like a very, very interesting prospect.

The whole bone cancer thing would have obviously had a negative effect on his development and was a very unfortunate incident.

But he's a massive guy who's penalty minutes in the NCAA suggest that he's one mean mother. Nevermind the fact that his offensive stats are very impressive too.

I hope he succeeds.

Apparently he may be making his debut for Albany this weekend. Thank ratsgirl for the heads up.

Aaron Voros Signs NHL Contract With New Jersey

Mar 22, 2004, 15:16

Aaron Voros is fulfilling a life-long dream.

Voros, a University of Alaska Fairbanks junior hockey standout, signed a two-year contract Monday with the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League. Voros became the third Nanook to sign with a pro club during Guy Gadowsky’s tenure as head coach at UAF. Former Nanooks Dwayne Zinger and Bobby Andrews also signed with NHL organizations during their time in Fairbanks. Zinger joined the Detroit Red Wings in 2000 and is currently with the Washington Capitals while Andrews joined the New York Rangers in 2002.

"It has been a whirlwind of activity over the last couple of days, but I am really excited about this new chapter in my life,” said Voros. “This is just another step toward my ultimate goal of playing in the NHL. That has been a dream of mine and I just have to continue to work hard toward making that happen.”

Voros flew out of Fairbanks late Monday afternoon to report to the New Jersey organization. He will then be sent to the Albany (NY) River Rats, New Jersey’s top affiliate in the American Hockey League.

He was supposed to fly out of Fairbanks at 3 p.m. Monday, however his flight in Seattle was cancelled so he now fly's out of Fairbanks at 7:30 p.m. and will arrive in New York at approx 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. Physical permitting, he is expecting to play this weekend.

Nice to hear. With his size, and with a little time, he should be able to make an impact at the AHL level, and eventually with the Devils down the road.....

Damn, does this mean Frank Littlejohn's not getting a shot at the big show?

This is a satisfying day. I remember going to the Salsa game the day after he was drafted and hearing people talk about it. At the time I'm not sure I really thought he'd play pro hockey, but his progression through college has been steady and it's really awesome to see him get a shot at the pros. Good luck Aaron, and make the best of it.

I watched him in a few games with the salsa. He has that satisfying knack of being in the right place at the right time, can be dominant in traffic, especially on the power play, and makes his line-mates better. I'd look for him to be moving towards the Devils by the end of the 2006 season.

lol! That was funny!

This is great news for the Rats. I'm looking forward to his debut. He'll need some time to transition from college to professional, but nonetheless he's a good player.

I wish Aaron good luck with the Devils. I was fortunate enough to see him in a few UAF games the past couple of seasons.

I really hope he makes it to NHL and sticks. He's got a really good upside to him and you all will love his grit and hard-hitting style.

Voros is tearing up the AHL...I wonder where he will fit in next season, or if he will play in the NHL at all.
