Anybody out there who lives in Portugal like me?
Little story about portuguese hockey in case you want to know: (and, yes, I mean ice hockey lol, not roller hockey)
think it was 1997 or 1998 when portugal played it's first ever international hockey game. It was up north in a place called Viseu. On one side was a gang of portuguese-canadians and portuguese-americans living in Portugal. On the other side, a team of portuguese-canadians from Toronto, who flew in to play some hockey with there fellow portuguese-canadians.
Can't remember the score but I remember seeing highlights and the ice was really small, nothin like international ice and nothing like NHL ice. I dunno if they had a zamboni cus, if my memory doesn't fail me, it was really rough.
That's the only game I'm aware of and as far as I know that is the only ice rink in Portugal.
Last month, the city of Lisbon's mayor (near where I live) installed an outdoor ice rink near the sea which, in our moderate climate you might be thinking "how can you keep the ice cold?" (or maybe not lol) but they have this system which keeps the ice frozen all the time. Unfortunately, I haven't gone yet but I do know most have said the ice is way too rough and it's 'hilly' (ya, it ain't flat lol).
I haven't skated in a looooooooong time, but semi-good news is that the mayor has gotten alot of feedback from people and is planning on building a permanent ice rink in the city. Only semi-good cus you normally can't believe a word politicians say half the time.
That's the little hockey in Portugal story. So if there's anyone out there from Portugal, just holler.
