captainscott 04-12-2009, 07:46 AM I think you can make the case that versus a speedy team like carolina, a more agile and puck moving defense is better.
the devils looked the sharpest they have in 13 games yesterday with regard to passing and transition from defense to offense.
andy greene played a very strong game on both sides of puck.
i think sitting colin white is a possibility not because he has played bad but purley because having greene in vs a team like the cains is simply a better match up
agree //disagree??
britdevil 04-12-2009, 07:51 AM Lunacy.
Colin will be a key player in shutting down the Whalers.
The Cuban 04-12-2009, 07:52 AM **** no!
kiwidevil 04-12-2009, 07:53 AM Maybe but need all the grit possible for the playoffs. And White is our best PK Dman.
How has White been in the playoffs in general?
BrodeurRULES 04-12-2009, 08:25 AM Whitey will be a key shutdown guy why on earth would u sit him. And we have seen the difference with him and out of the line up.
After what Green has shown he will probably be in the lineup anyway hopefully and Mott's will sit. O btw its canes :)
captainscott 04-12-2009, 08:28 AM the pk is a good point
grit in playoffs is needed but you also have to look at match up.
or maybe 7 defensman

mottau has been equally as solid tough call for sutter
yes but when white was out previously they didn't have havelid, i am not saying white is someone that deserves to sit and i don't even think sutter would actually make that move but the devils defense is a better puck moving defense with him not in lineup, granted they are much less physical and small but i don;t think you need a big d against the canes i think transition is more important and the abiltity to make good passes
Team Boring 04-12-2009, 09:19 AM Regardless of how NJ played yesterday vs them, we need White to play in the playoffs, He a key shutdown player and has the experience.
DevilsFan38 04-12-2009, 10:10 AM No way in hell :shakehead
1) White is playing very well lately.
2) He is a crucial part of the PK.
3) He and Sal are the only physical defensemen.
4) He's the defenseman with the most playoff experience, and the only one who has won a Cup.
Blitz113 04-12-2009, 11:37 AM I actually don't think that dressing seven defencemen is that bad for this series. Have Rolston and Clarkson on the fourth line with rotating guys (Parise, Elias) with them and they also get 2nd Power Play minutes. I also think that by having Greene and Mottau in the line up together, they push one another to be better so that they can stay in the line up. If it doesn't work, they can always go back to dressing 12 forwards.

I agree with this, and I mentioned this yesterday.
Lets put it this way, I've been more impressed with Andy Greene than I have with Rupp/Holik/Pandolfo.
Keep a spot open on the 4th line and give extra shifts to Elias, Parise, Zajac, Langenbrunner, Zubrus, and Gionta. This way, there is less of a chance that Holik or Rupp takes a dumb penalty, and we give Rolston and Clarkson a skilled player to play with.

I would absolutely love if this happened.
BenedictGomez 04-12-2009, 11:42 AM Lol, what?
White was probably the best defenseman this year other than Martin, there is no way he sits. Not to mention the fact that if you sit White it means you have Oduya, Havelid, and Greene all in the lineup at once, and that's 1/2 your defense being composed of guys that dont play physical, which represents high-probability of fail. Especially in the playoffs.
Gunnar Stahl 30 04-12-2009, 11:43 AM i dont think its time to experiment. white needs to play because mottau isnt good enough to be the better player of a pairing
TheDevilMadeMe 04-12-2009, 12:53 PM Yup, lets sit our best PKer against the team that "drew" the most penalties this year by a wide margin.
åboriginal 04-12-2009, 01:32 PM awesome
Richer's Ghost 04-12-2009, 01:35 PM If this thread were in prison I would not protect it in the shower.
SixStringAddict 04-12-2009, 01:59 PM No way. He's one of our better defensive d-men. We need him
The Jersey Devil 04-12-2009, 06:21 PM Hello no, we need his size and experience. On another note, I think Leblond should stay because he, unlike most of the Devils, doesn't need a full-on brawl to stand up for his teammates.
borrachon 04-12-2009, 06:30 PM Why don't we sit Elias while we're at it.

Interesting idea & I'd be all for it, though Pando deserves to be in there.
I want to see Greene play, but there's no way in hell White is sitting. Unfortunately, I doubt Sutter benches Mottau.

Ummm, I agree with #'s 2-4, which is why he should play. But you couldn't be more off base with #1. Over his last 10 games, White is a -5, with no goals, 1 assist, 14 PIM and countless costly turnovers. He's been awful, which is generallt nowhere near "playing very well." His turnovers are the most disconcerting. Some of them have resembled mistakes that a young and inexperienced player would make.
DevilishFan30 04-13-2009, 01:42 PM NO WAY!!! he's our more physical D-Man and without him, our pk is gonna suck even more. so that's said if they sit White i think that the canes will beat us in 5.

I'm with you, you don't sit one of our only two physical defensemen and who's played in bigger games for us than Colin White on our defense.
captainscott 04-13-2009, 01:50 PM even though i startd the post i still think white should play; my point was can you make an argument that he sits..... i don't think he should but he does suck at moving the puck and that has been a problem for devs recently.
i see nobody was willing to make the same argument so i guess we are all dumber for having read my thread, and may god have mercy on my soul
MoonDragn 04-13-2009, 02:07 PM I think for the first 2 home games, we need to have the younger guys play. Carolina moves the puck very well and have very speedy guys so we need to use young guys to match up against them. Once the series moves to Carolina, then you use bigger guys like White and Holik to wear down their forwards who should be a little tired by then.
Drewr15 04-13-2009, 02:12 PM I do feel Green has outplayed Mottau as of late but I wouldn't sit White over him. I like the 7 D idea and in last game Leblond wasn't getting much ice time and Sutter was rotating wings on the 4th line anyway so it's a possibility.
I also agree White has hit a bit of a slump lately after really playing great for awhile this year - he needs to get his game back for us to win this series.

Are you implying that White should sit?

Our Lidstrom-lite has to play somehow. :sarcasm:
