I really think that our team is gonna come out gunz blazing. We had a little slump a couple of weeks ago but i'd rather have it in the season with nothing really on the line, than in the playoffs.

This team is made for the playoffs and full of veteran leadership. We'll be ready and I expect us to jump all over them when the puck drops on wednesday or thursday. We have the physical advantage, the offensive advantage and the better netminder.

Seriously, this is going to be a very tough series for the Devils, Carolina is loaded with talent and they play a good system.
Babchuk can unleash a wicked shot and their forwards move the puck very well in the PP.

I think the main keys is to rough up Whitney, Samsonov and their other smaller forwards, get traffic in front of Ward and stay out of the box.
Play strong Devils hockey and don't let the Canes frustrate you on special teams.

Us fans need to do our part too and fill The Rock and give it a real home advantage in Games 1 & 2.

We can take these guys, we just have to be disciplined crash the net. Personally I think the Canes peaked too early and have been playing above their heads since they hired Maurice. They're definitely better, especially defensively, but after seeing Buffalo bring them down to Earth this week I'm confident that we can beat them. Considering the Boston-Montreal series is starting Thursday-Saturday expect a Wednesday-Friday start. Versus and NBC will want either Philly-Pittsburgh or Washington-Rangers (probably the former) and Versus probably has Habs-Bruins as their 3rd choice for the night NBC takes one of the above. That means I would expect this for beginning of the Eastern schedule.

I really prefer this match up to any of the others.
Keep Staal quiet and there are no other real game breakers for the canes. And we should fair well in a goaltender duel.

Pitt has the obvious (usually uncontrolable) two. And their deadline players are doing well.
Philly has Richards, Carter and depth and that amazing PK.

Our team seems to have learned its lesson to an extent. I expect the penalty kill to be better and more willing to lay it on the line when it matters, as others have said. I just hope that our power play can get clicking.

I all but give up on the Devils PK and am leery about the Defense when we need to count upon it most.

Our only chance is to try to outscore them like we did in today's game and limit them to just 1 or 2 PP goals per game.

We can be beaten at home as home ice means nothing for the Devils over the last several years. Brodeur has to be flawless at 5 on 5 and we have to hope our offense continues to find itself again and doesn't disappear.

There is no reason why the Devils should prevail over Carolina in a best of 7 series.

Last year wasn't a true home-ice series and the Rock's been very good to us this year. That's one of the things I'm looking most forward to - seeing this place in playoff games as opposed to the CAA which had pockets of empty sections even in the second round against Carolina in '06.

I all but give up on the Devils PK and am leery about the Defense when we need to count upon it most.

Our only chance is to try to outscore them like we did in today's game and limit them to just 1 or 2 PP goals per game.

In 2006 they were much better than us in that series. Yes, if we would have held on to Game-2 as we should have it may have gone 6 or 7 games but they were better, hands down.

Luckily they no longer have Weight, Recchi, Williams, Wesley, Hedican, Ladd and Stillman as they were key for them that year.

Tampa / St Petersburg is VERY nice. I've been there quite a few times.

However, inland Florida that doesn't include Orlando isn't that nice.. I was just taking a leisurely drive around to see how it was and there were several car chases.. speeding strips(?) (the ones that flatten your tires), choppers, etc.. it was pretty crazy.

This is based off of very minimal experience though. I would put big bucks that most of the coast is very nice.. Keys, Miami, Tampa, etc. But the inland.. not so much.

The NCAA and CBS can come up with a complete schedule including times within 3 hours of slotting 65 teams, yet the NHL- which has known most of the 16 teams' opponents and seeding for days, can't announce a schedule before 11pm on Sunday night, with games looming in less than 72 hours?

I know they have multiple TV partners, but it is a joke. Has anyone over at the NHL ever heard of scenario planning? There were only a handful of possibilities cooming into the day.

The NCAA and CBS can come up with a complete schedule including times within 3 hours of slotting 65 teams, yet the NHL- which has known most of the 16 teams' opponents and seeding for days, can't announce a schedule before 11pm on Sunday night, with games looming in less than 72 hours?

I know they have multiple TV partners, but it is a joke. Has anyone over at the NHL ever heard of scenario planning? There were only a handful of possibilities cooming into the day.

Oh, and let's not forget that NHL.com had been promising to post a full first round schedule "Sunday evening". What were they thinking?

I'm sure the teams know when and where they have to be for Game 1. That's how you get leaks like TG got.

It won't be on Center Ice in Canada. If what I have read is correct none of the TSN2 games have been during the season. That isn't going to change for the playoffs.

The handful of possibilities involved four different series being changed, that's actually a lot. It wasn't as easy as having a Plan A if the Blues won and Plan B if they didn't because there was also the Philly-Pittsburgh series that factored in.

The NCAA is a faulty comparison because every game is at a fixed site to start with, that's a big advantage over the NHL which didn't know where three games were being played in three Western series until 7:30 and home-ice for another series. Not to mention CBS has a monopoly on all the games whereas you have a ton of networks all wanting a piece of the pie.

But yeah this does royally suck. Technically Sunday evening isn't over yet though :sarcasm:

They still have 50 minutes. Seriously, this actually IS pretty complicated given how many matchups were decided just today.

They probably had schedules down pat for 6 or 7 of the 8 series hours ago, and are working out the last details on a series or two.
