On www.Bergen.com, Tom Gulitti reports that Stevens might be already working out.
Here's the paragraph:
None of the players admits to having talked to Stevens, who did not return a telephone message again Tuesday, since he attended their home game against Atlanta on Feb. 27. None has seen him working out either, though it is believed he has been using the team's off-ice facilities at South Mountain Arena when the Devils are not around.
Very interesting and Lou like! :yo:
Hellsempire 03-17-2004, 01:43 PM I have been saying this for weeks now. Stevens will be back for the last week of the season or the beginning of the playoffs. He has been working out nice and early in the morning and has been spotted on the ice in sweats and a sweatshirt skating early in the morning at SMA... Lou gave the media the gag order on Stevens...

It may be interesting, but I think it is more disheartening. Lou is the GM of the Devils not the leader of a circus. I don't think Lou is going to try and "pull one over" on the media and dress Scotty in the near future because he has been working out secretly. I think there is something very wrong with Stevens. He's not returning phone calls probably because he is sick of answering questions. Marty knows he isn't coming back. The Devils are starting to prepare for life without him. I'm not giving up the dream, but right now, it is looking more like a nightmare.
Hellsempire 03-17-2004, 01:51 PM One more time...
SCOTT STEVENS IS COMING BACK AND IT COULD BE THE LAST WEEK OF THE SEASON OR THE START OF THE PLAYOFFS!
Go to some of the practices and you will learn the information there... Stevens progression has greatly improved and shows NO symptoms of PCS... He will be back very soon. Trust me on that one... ;)

Come on now, if you truly believe that not one Devils player has spoken to Stevens, well, you know how the saying goes about a bridge for sale, etc.

That isn't what I said. I'm simply saying that the Devils are preparing for life without him. Why does this have to be some major conspiracy? Lindros was out for a YEAR when he had these similar symptoms. I hope he is back next week, but it is getting a little late in the year to expect him to be the impactful player he has been in past playoffs.

Niedermayer and Rafalski talk to Stevens almost everyday... ;)
I am sure that Brodeur and other players talk with Stevens as well but not as often as Niedermayer and Rafalski...
Blackjack 03-17-2004, 02:26 PM If it's that easy to get information on Stevens' return, we must have some of the worst reporters in the world here in NJ. Not that I don't believe you; I would kill to get Stevens back before the playoffs, it's the only thing that can save us.
GentlemanOfLeisure 03-17-2004, 02:30 PM the only thing that can save us this season for our playoff run is a healthy stevens and to call up Tuomas Philman. :yo:
DARKSIDE 03-17-2004, 04:37 PM My take is, if Stevens was finished, wouldn't it be beneficial for the team to know that he's done, don't expect him back and lets move on. So, I believe he's working out and we'll find out soon enough. But, what a great moral boost it will be for the team if he returns. Lou knows what he's doing!
Blackjack 03-17-2004, 04:53 PM No, if the team believes he is coming back, that's something to play for. The mentality is 'Just survive this round, and we'll have our captain back for the next'
If they don't believe he's coming back, the mentality is 'we can't beat [Ottawa, Toronto, Boston, Colorado] in the next round without Scotty anyway, what am I playing for?'
It's much better for the team to think he's coming back.
Defence first 03-17-2004, 10:27 PM I would not be surprised if Stevens is working out. And Lou try and hide it because that is the way the orgainization is. The world does not need to know what anybody is doing on that team. THings like that have been like that forever.

Maybe he's trying to lull the league into sleep, general opinion it seems is were dead in the water without him, continue to keep us under the rader because Lou knows that's when the Devils play their best and shock everybody with a healthy and recharged Stevens when nobody leasts expects it........at least that's what I hope. :p

I think playing for playoff $ would be enough incentive with or without the captain, with a possible work stoppage looming. I think certain players, if not all, would want to prove to themselves that they have not been riding Stevens' coattails all these years.
