I'll be watching all 30 teams because that is what I am paid to do, but I'll tell you one thing, there is no more intriguing team heading into the final third of the season than the New Jersey Devils. So, with apologies to the other 29 teams, the Devils are the team I'll be watching with particular interest. I think old Lou Lamoriello has positioned his team to take a serious run at winning its fourth Cup in 15 years.
Lamoriello knows when he is close to winning the Cup and isn't afraid to add to his roster. He did exactly that the three years the Devils won the Cup. In 1995 he brought Neal Broten, Shawn Chambers and Danton Cole to town. In 2000 it was Vladimir Malakhov and Alexander Mogilny and in 2003 he obtained Pascal Rheaume, Grant Marshall and Richard Smehlik.
Nice read.

I really can't imagine us not doing anything at all. Something always happens, and it's not fair really to depend so much on Paul Martin. It's too risky to not make a move for a top 4 guy.

I remember the year they got Almo, I was listening to FAN all afternoon and they didn't even announce the acquisition untill like 3:40 after the 3pm? deadline.
It was probably the last transaction of the day.
Lou is talking very cautiously about adding to the team but he's capable of doing the unexpected.

seems like Lou slips in there at the end a lot. Going back to getting Peter Stastny and getting an extension because the league fax machine wasn't working or something like that. The Almo deal then the langenbrunner, Nieuwendyk- Arnott Mckay deal. I remember going somewhere for that one, leaving my car well after the deadline only to come back around 6 and hear on WFAN about the deal.

Yeah, but that year we weren't good down the stretch, we were losing and we also ended up firing Ftorek.
Lou wanted a shakeup and that's why he got Mogilny. This situation is much different. We're firing on all cylinders and Lou is very careful right now, he doesn't want to do something that will disrupt the chemistry.
