Sutters system is more damanding than Lemaire's or Burns systems.

Look we still play a 1-2-2 but, were much harder on the forecheck and the backcheck. Despite the more aggressive play we manage to stay out of the penalty box and can get back on defence. This system has to be fun for the players but,it's more demanding of our players conditioning and commitment to team defence.

With the salary cap and this organizations commitment to winning, this building and their style of play. The Devils have to look like a destination for premier free agents.
A caliber free agent like Brain Rolston is hopefully the catylist for things to come like Scott Neidermeyer!:D

I don't know if I would call the present system more demanding necessarily, but to the extent that our guys need to skate harder going north-and-south, and to the extent that specialty team situations are 10x more prevalent, you'd be correct. (I wonder what players who also played under Burns have to say about the differences in conditioning.)

In the 20 years since Lou took to the helm, the Devils have unquestionably been one of the best structured and most successful teams in all of hockey. Free-agent and veteran players who recognize this, and who are willing to phase into a championship system in which the emblem on the front means more than the name on the back, hopefully will continue to have New Jersey as one of their top destination choices.
