Oh yeah, and we also just stole a 4 star CB from Penn State:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=uwire-toutedcornerbackislateaddi&prov=uwire&type=lgns

(CSTV U-WIRE) NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—When the Rutgers football team reported for day one of training camp today, the Scarlet Knights had one more in their numbers than what was expected a week ago.

After a series of academic problems with Penn State, four-star cornerback Darrell Givens has joined the Rutgers roster and will participate fully with the team at the start of tomorrow’s practice.

“We have a late addition in Darrell Givens,” said head coach Greg Schiano. “There has been a lot of speculation about all that’s gone on and all I can tell you, with the laws being what they are, is that if you can do the math, you’re not allowed to come to a Big East school and play football if you’re not a qualifier. He’ll be able to practice and play.”

Givens, 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, is rated the No. 6 cornerback on ESPN.com. He joins an already highly touted defensive secondary recruiting class including Logan Ryan, Abdul Smith and Duron Harmon.

I think the realistic record is 10-2 (with a loss to either Maryland or West Virginia), but I think we will beat at least one of the two.

West Virginia being more realistic, IMO.

But, like I said. Trying to be an optimist.

It could possibly be a big year provided we find a QB. hopefully Natale can step up. One thing I will say is that I don't want to see Lovelace as the starter. Heck maybe Savage starts as a true freshman. who knows. If we solve QB we will be good. Our ground game is a three headed beast playing behind one of the best lines in college football. Tim Brown is a blazer at WR and Mason Robinson is also an extremely fast kid but i don't know how he'll take to WR.

9-3 seems about right with the right QB. Cincy will probably take us down. We always struggle against UConn and WV so one of those will beat us and Maryland is tough.

I think we beat UConn. They lost some top end talent in the draft and they weren't that deep to begin with. I think they will have a big drop off this year.

I might be way off, but I think that we should definitely beat UConn and we'll beat at least one of WV and Maryland.

I hope so. Their road schedule is very forgiving. Only road games that can give them trouble are Maryland and Connecticut.

But 11-1 is pushing it. I'd be thrilled with 9-3. Especially with the uncertainties at QB and WR.

There's no way Rutgers loses to Cincy. They lost almost the entire core from last year. Rutgers could easily go undefeated but they also could easily go 7-5. Nobody really knows what to expect from this team..alot of question marks. If they are answered, they could be awesome. If they aren't, this season could be ugly.

So on the left along Campus road, after passing Sutphen Road and headed toward the circle, Rutgers thought it genius to add a "Welcome Center" into that lot.......right in the middle of tailgating territory.

I fully intend to leave really colorful post-it notes on the door for RU management's decision to put it right there, considering their big seller is football and it's eating up useful and valuable tailgating room.

As long as he has a competent O-Line, he can be successful. If he doesn't, and Seattle doesn't, his mobility problems become a big problem.

Shame with Toal too because he had a great freshman year. Then injuries happened and he was never the same.

Still was the best high school football player that I've gotten a chance to see play.

Oh, obviously. It's just kind of cool. A guy that no one really thought had any future (outside of Rutgers people -- and even some of us didn't think anything of him) is getting to prove some wrong. Sure, I'm not going to write him into the starting position yet, but I always thought that his leadership, drive and winning ways had to be worth something.

He's Drew Bledsoe in terms of mobility, though. That's for sure.

No he was traded for Orien Harris back in May. Last year he had 2 shoulder surgery that ruined last year for him. I really hope he catches on with a team. He's in a tough place though. He isn't a traditional FB and he isn't fast or strong enough to be halfback. Personally I think he would be best used in the passing game and as a spare runner.

Apparently Schiano is keeping the starting QB a secret:

http://espn.go.com/blog/bigeast/post/_/id/2021/schiano-keeps-quarterback-decision-a-secret

Rutgers released its new depth chart today, but there are no answers on the quarterback question.

Dom Natale, Jabu Lovelace and Tom Savage are all listed atop the chart at the position, separated by "ORs." Head coach Greg Schiano says he won't reveal who the starter is for Monday's game against Cincinnati, though he knows who it will be.

"I have a starter; I'm just not making it public yet," he said. " We know. I think we have a pretty good idea of what the plan is going to be. How it unfolds in the game is different. I think some of that will be determined on how it goes.

Lovelace is more of a runner than a passer who can be used in special packages. So the real question is whether Natale, the fifth-year senior, or Savage, the true freshman, will take the first snaps. If one starts and struggles to move the team down the field, the other might come in.

Darius Dangleaitis

It will probably be Natale. he's a fifth year senior who transferred for Michigan State. He'll probably get the first couple of games and see how it goes from there. Savage will probably get a few snaps depending on how the games are going. As for Lovelace I don't expect to see him playing in the actual QB spot. He'll be in for some misdirection plays and some trickery.

I'm thinking that too. Natale will start, Jabu returns to do direct snaps (most likely, maybe they'll use him for a few passing plays, don't know if he improved in the offseason but it would confuse the hell out of the other team's defense), and i think Savage will see a few snaps later in the game, depending on the score and Natale's performance.

I DO think that Savage obviously needs experience, but I think he'll start vs. Howard, an easy team to beat, unless Natale completely unloads on Cincy.

Yes sir. 11,000 seats. Everything inside is supposed to be done. I passed by it earlier today and they're still finishing up the cosmetics on the exterior part facing River Road on the expansion part. Should be nice. They actually finished the seats themselves over a month ago.

Apparently the student section has been moved to the new seats on the endzone so that as the buses drop off the students across River Road they can just go straight to their seats.

Well the defense is part of your team, stop them. No need to hand out a mulligan because your defense sucks. Football isn't like baseball where you can't score on defense. You can take possession away by an interception or forcing a fumble. And if your special teams works one could have a chance at a safety.

Also nothing says you have to kick to them if you lose the toss, if you don't have faith in your defense try an onside kick.

Yeah you're right...instead of kicking the ball 60-70 yards down-field and having similar confidence in your defense to stop them and work field position, instead you should kick an onside-kick, which has a success rate of probably less than 30% thus putting the team about 30 yards out from FG range for a lot of kickers.

Makes sense.

I'd still much prefer an OT where either the other team has one drive to score, or NCAA style but they have to drive from their OWN 40 to either enter FG range or go for the TD.

Sure, the O-line is real solid, but you need some gamechangers. We have none. I say throw Savage in there and see what happens, but still wouldn't be expecting much more than were seeing right now.

that doesn't explain Tony Pike putting 500 on them.

they keep selling the BCS line of **** and then coming out and ******** the bed to open the season. 3 years in a row.

they look freaking awful. at least last year, the D played well while Teel ****ed up.
they look pathetic on both sides of the ball. if not for Cincy coming out and calling an inside handoff and a dumb screen into soft coverage, they wouldn't have a stop.

Lucky you. I may have seen both goals but I put my head down with two seconds left and walked out, I didn't plan on seeing any of the celebration itself (though I made the mistake of staying for it two years ago when Lundqvist did his victory lap).

As far as Rutgers...how are they ever supposed to be a BCS team when Cinci and West Virginia freaking own them?

Really? I mean, you still watch the Rangers right?

I kid, I kid...this is a totally neutral thread. I don't know how no one saw that coming to some degree. Well, at least in the spread. Cinci had a lot of questions coming in because of all they lost, but RU is an absolute mess.

This is more or less going to be a live and learn year for them. But I do think they can get back to contending in the Big East if the guys they have can live up to their potential long-term.

They've recruited pretty well, so they do have talent in there, they just need to develop it now.

Yeah, but a lot of that talk was simply from looking at a team on paper. They have endured a lot of losses over the last two seasons, it takes time to build a cohesive team and maybe over the season they'll improve, but from what I was able to see today, I'm thinking it'll take most of the season and I think they're ****ed at QB right now.
