Ducks 30-28-5 vs Stars 29-24-7
TV: FSPT
Radio: 830
Preview (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/preview;_ylt=AgA40eVuGnlZTXJUiWZ0Wy45nYcB?gid=2009 022809).

Season series:
11-7-08| Ana 2 Dal 5 (http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2008020195)
11-22-08| Ana 2 Dal 1 SO (http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2008020293)
12-27-08| Ana 3 Dal 4 OT (http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2008020522)

A pic of what we don't want to see:
http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/images/guitar-hero-iii-pc-screenshot.jpg

Dallas is hanging on to 8th, and has lost 3 in a row. The Ducks also have 65 points, but have played 3 more games. The Stars own the Ducks (2-0-1 this season against us). We also are playing a lineup that (likely) includes Drew Miller, Ryan Whitney, Brendan Mikkelson, and Brendan Morrison (let's never acquire another Brendan again). Sounds like a loss.

In all seriousness, today's game might determine if they sell or stay put. If they win, they might stay put at deadline (they probably have to win at Chicago too). If they lose, they pretty much have to pack it in. After being trounced by Boston, you would think they'd put in a good effort as well.

Rosters: Miller will probably be in, why else would they call him up. I'm not sure if I expect Giguere or Hiller. It should be whoever looked better against the Bruins. Dallas is ludicrously injured. Zubov, Morrow, Richards, Peterson. Sadly this is probably another omen we lose.

Loui Eriksson has 6 more goals than our leader, Perry. BTW, they were drafted in the same year.

Are we going to miss Kunitz with guys such as Ott in the lineup? Or would that actually prevent us from getting as many PIMs and pissing away the game? Dallas, oh Dallas. I'm not sure if there's a more loathsome roster in the NHL.

In terms of packing it in or going for it, well I don't think I can ever root against the Ducks, but I wouldn't be very torn if they lose.

4.5 losses left.

Gotta run, more to come.

For all the negativity on this board this season (warranted in many cases, not in some), Snark's right, this game could determine a whole lot.

Put together a great effort on the road, and it could be that spark that we've been looking for all season long. Rationally, this team's shown no real signs of being able to win a playoff series, so there's little reason to believe that they would. However, as I've said in other threads, most of us have watched enough hockey to have seen inexplicable rallies (and collapses), and I still think this team has the horses to put together some sort of run. Do I think it's likely? Not at all. But, if it's at all possible, this game may be the one that sparks it.

If they come out with a performance like the ones against Atlanta or Boston, then that may be the straw that breaks Murray's back (and lights up his outgoing cell line).

Aren't I always? :sarcasm:

But yeah, this might be the most critical single game of this season. With it's proximity to the trade deadline, and with them needing to win to seriously consider going for the playoffs, this game could tip a decision that will have pretty lasting effects.

Which is why I, like you, wouldn't weep if they lost. That hole in the top 6 ain't gonna fill itself. We need to deal Niedermayer, and to do that, Murray needs to think it's over.

As to Giguere/Hiller, I'd lean towards Giguere. He only let in one lousy goal, whereas Hiller let in two. Wow, our standards for acceptability are really low now.

Static
02-28-2009, 01:06 PM
I think Pronger is going to be traded regardless of how this team does in the next week.

Getzlaf and Perry need to be better tonight, theyve been invisible for quite a while, Perry especially.

This game is the season for the Ducks...

If the Ducks lose Murray needs to move Pronger or Niedermayer for a young top 6 forward like Wheeler and a 1st round pick.

As I stated over on the Stars board, the fact that Ott's even out there in the first place can be blamed on Tippett, who's done more and more to infuriate me as the season goes on.

But I don't blame Ott for his actions at the end; cross-checking and jostling for position in front of the net happens every single game, usually several times, and this you cannot deny. I just think the mugging he got from Giguere, and ensuing beatdown from Moen was completely excessive.

Again, I'm not even a fan of Ott, but the actions by the two Ducks players at the end there just wasn't cool. And it's made even worse by the fact that Ott somehow got a match penalty out of it, which I don't understand at ALL.

Kudos on the win, by the way.

You are oversimplifying it. If this happened in the 2nd period on a powerplay then I would agree with this sentiment. However, it happened with one second left of a decided game, and he just so happened to be crosschecking the captain of the opposing team repeatedly. Frankly, I would have been pissed if Giguere sat and watched that from two feet away.

That's about right. Giguere attacked at the horn for the last second crosschecks(3). Scott took a shot, then Moen took over. Ott dropped his gloves with Moen and took shots when Moen went down. Ott had it coming and lost this one.

Miller looked horrible lol at saying he looked good. Any player in this league could knock him off the puck. Parros would be better on the top line.

Brookbank was solid again out there he's quietly settling into the physical presence we've needed all year. Hope he stays with the team along with Montador for next season.
The 2nd line was awesome out there and could really be the 1st line. Tons of chances. Whitney so far has impressed and ive learned not to listen to opposing fans when analyzing a player. They were wrong about Mike Brown and so far wrong here

Dirk being bias against Miller, shocker of the year!

Other than that, I completely agree.

My Ideal Defense for next season would be:

Bouwmeester - Beauch
Whitney - Stuart ( assuming the Boston Rumors are true)
Monty - Brookbank/ Young guys in our system.

This would allow us to trade both Scott and Pronger, and have fantastic young Defense that Mixes skill, speed, physical play and a few defense first guys.

Of course the only problem is signing Jaybo.

Brookbank actually looked.... decent this game... wow I actually said it. That hit was nice.

Our bottom 6 forwards look like trash, and we can't possibly consider a playoff run without finding someone to play with Getzlaf/Perry. A top 6 forward is definitely needed.

Whitney didn't look bad tonight, but then again he was playing with Pronger who is an excellent passer. He didn't look as bad as people think. I wonder if Pittsburgh's system is so offensive oriented it put him in bad situations too often... idk....
