New Respect for Brodeur

Martin gave a great interview on CBC today. I sensed a real sincere humbleness in his comments. Sounds like a guy who's injury and the time it afforded him watching from the stands has made him fall in love with the game on a whole new level perhaps. He even had nice things to say about the Rangers.

Nice to see him back on the ice.

Do you happen to have a link to the interview?

What nice things are there to say about the Rangers right now? And I mean that in an honest way. Didn't see the interview so, I'm just curious because that team, well, really isn't a TEAM at all.

But ya know, he probably had a semi-feel of retirement sitting up in that box and look at how many guys come back after watching from afar.

this whole entire process has made me respect and appreciate Brodeur alot more. It is very cliché, but you really don't know what you have until you lose it. I feel like I have been so spoiled, that every little mistake he would make, I would criticize and disregard everything else he has done. Thank you so much Marty for everything, and everything yet to come.

This was on the CBC Radio, which is awesome by the way.

I'll have to paraphrase but when asked about the division he said he was surprised that the Pens had taken such a big step back having Crosby and Malkin. He said he thought the Rangers were a very good team that is obviously struggling to score the goals but when those goals start coming, which he believed they would, they would be fine.

They tried to get him to talk a bit about the records but he was very classy and kind of dodged the question saying he was just excited to play hockey right now.

They also asked him if he thought Parise would be the first Devil to score 50 than they joked that he might not want to jinx him so maybe he better not answer.

:)

Ahh werd. Thanks, paraphrasing is just fine, I get the gist of it. Marty typically is a class act in interviews and certainly quite modest when it comes to his accolades, so that comes as no surprise. Plus when you come off a surgery like that, I think the last thing you need to worry about is ANY record before you worry about potential setbacks, tweaks, re-injuring it and getting back on top.

I don't think last night was much of a test for him. Philly Sunday will be, because I highly doubt they put him on the pine for a division game like that.

Marty's still the same Marty he always was. Just because he refused to give Nigel Dawes credit for a shootout goal, doesn't mean he was any less humble before his injury.

I met Marty at a book signing and for the ten seconds I was with him he was awesome and polite. Not like other pro athletes who rush and ignore you. I met him during his 48 win season and I said to him,

"Keep up the good work Marty, and thank you for everything you've done to help the Devils over your career."

He replied, "Thank you and its fans like you guys that make me want to stay here and win another Cup."

Marty has always been the kind of person with his laid back personality, and his blue collar-ness that everybody should have respect for him. Comparing Patrick Roy to Marty is like comparing Babe Ruth to Lou Gehrig. Roy was this ego-maniac guy who always had to make headlines, while Marty was the quiet one.

He said the same thing to me when I last met him and asked "why didn't you win us a Cup last season you old fart?"

and Marty replied "Thank you and it's fans like you guys that make me wantto stay here and win another Cup." :)

Definitely. Look at Roy's son as well. The apple doesn't fall from from the tree there...psycho headcases.

I heard Roy has accepted an invite to be in attendance when Marty breaks his wins record. I'll gain a little (very little) respect for him if he actually shows up.

What? When? He'll show up for that, he'll make some lame jokes but he loves the spotlight, he'll be there.

It was said by Doc and Chico during Thursday night's game.

I think Doc commented about it during the Devs last game vs the Avs..

Something along the lines that it was nice of Roy to accept and watch Marty break it.

But yeah, I agree with you, it'll be a half *** effort on his part. Anything to get on the cameras. After a few snide remarks and jokes we'll all be left shaking our head..

Whatever man, the fact that he'll be there is kind of cool. I don't like Roy, but **** he was a talented goalie. His record is unbelievable.

I don't think Marty's the biggest Roy fan to begin with from 98...

Still, it's a guy he grew up idolizing.

If I were in his shoes, and Marty did that to me, I'd still love Marty, maybe not as much, but you don't forget.

Good point. In the end I'm happy Roy will be there. I wonder if the Devils cover Roy's travel costs if it takes Marty a few games to acheive the milestone?

They more than likely would. Remember the 500 wins fiasco?! Lets not go through that again. Sheesh.

Gawddd, no doubt...lol

The sooner he gets it out of the way,the better. We don't need that distraction over our heads with a couple games left in what's going to be a tight top 4 or so..
