Rangers can't afford him. They have absically no cap room to do anything but a depth trade. I know that want to get rid of Gomez but they aren't going to do it for a pending UFA that they probably have no chance of signing in the offseason.

Good move both ways since each team now has some more flexibility come the deadline or off-season. Tangradi makes Staal a more movable piece in the off-season and Whitney is basically an insurance policy on Nieds. I don't know how much Kunitz was playing in Anaheim to say whether or not Whitney makes them better, but if his leaving Pitt additionally puts Goligoski back in the lineup along with Kunitz the Pens definitely just got better.

What to do mean it hasn't worked?

The Devils have the best depth at forward they've had since the 2001 season.
They are sitting in 3rd in the conference (2pts out of second with a game in hand) having played the last 4 months without their all star goalie.
They made a third string goalie, whose career was going nowhere, become the goalie with the second highest wins in a season in franchise history.
They are scoring 3 goals a game, the most they've ever done since they lead the league in scoring in the early part of this decade.

Wienermeyer has one good run in him, I think. He can come back and retire a Devil and put his past actions where they belong. The team can afford him for the short time he will be here. The team doesn't need a superstar D-man, just one to shore up some weaknesses. If he can do that, that's all the team needs.

The only question really is how much the Ducks would ask for him and whether the Devils can afford to make that trade without impairing their future too much.

I rather have Pronger than Niedermeyer. Pronger gives us additional size on the blue line needed as well as someone who can actually play the point on the PP and not be a liability. That would allow the other players on the team to be slotted better. Plus he has another year on the contract so it isn't a rental.

Not exactly - they can just claim him back and then send him down (without waivers). If you claim him, it has to be for your NHL roster.

i'm just talking in general. I think there are several teams that will struggle to fit 6+ million into their cap next year. I think we could but that also means no Gio and we are going to have to play some young guys in their place. It also means we are going to have to watch what we give Zajac and Oduya.

The ducks have many question marks for next season. If I was them I would trade both guys and let Giggy walk. Time to reload with a new group of players. I'm sure they won't have to much of an issue getting players. IMO they already let to much escape them by trying to fit both guys and all the forwards plus giggy under the cap.

Compare and contrast the way the NYI & NYR fanbases handle losing:

NYI=quiet desperation, losing with dignity and rightfully blaming ownership and management for all problems.

NYR=extremely obnoxious, envious and spending too much time criticizing other local teams instead of focusing inward. Although perhaps that might be changing, but I wouldn't hold my breath, especially from the trash that infiltrated the Prudential Center in the playoffs last season.

NYR=extremely obnoxious, envious and spending too much time criticizing other local teams instead of focusing inward. Although perhaps that might be changing, but I wouldn't hold my breath, especially from the trash that infiltrated the Prudential Center in the playoffs last season.

How absurd. If I was a NYR fan like this clown said he supposedly was, I would have forgone going to a NJD Devils game (free tickets or whether he had to pay)

I would be more concerned with going out of my way to watching my own team, especially with all the buzz that was created over the hiring of an extremely annoying coach (who deserves a nice punch in the face) and the fact that my team is in an apparent free fall and fighting for its playoff life.

I would either go the game, watch at home, watch at a bar, listen or watch at work or listen in my car parked somehwhere outside the Rock. But if I were a NYR fan, (I'd rather light myself on fire while I watch On Golden Pond) the last place I would want to be when my team is playing an important game is at a Devils game in Newark, NJ.

What a dork. I would have loved to given him a NYR quiz to see if can even name 5 NYR players prior to the lockout not named Messier, Leetch, Graves or Richter.

With all the changes Glen Sather made in the off-season to the lineup, how far away are we from a coaching change? The pressure is on Renney despite losing Sean Avery, Jaromir Jagr and possibly even Brendan Shanahan. Three straight early-round exits didn't help Ron Wilson, so it's not out of the realm to believe Renney is on a short leash from Sather.

When lost seasons start piling up, your expectations drop, hence you lose some passion W or L. When you have higher expectations, you get pissed off easier. Different situations.

The NYI were AHL-caliber lottery teams while the NYR brought in big names players to generate interest, sell tickets and at least on paper, give them a chance at making the playoffs. Don't you remember everybody predicting the NYR winning the Stanley Cup each year?

They NYI only big name was Yashin and they finished ahead of the NYR like 2 or 3 times during those years, not to mention there were like 3 seasons when the NYR hovered around .500 and were in the playoff hunt to the very end.

And even Slats didn't make as many boneheaded moves as Mike Milbury. (Slats is only good at giving out bad contracts and mismanaging the cap)

Oh, and I forgot the Nassau Coliseum roof collapsing, a potential buyer of the team going to jail and finally, a very ambiguous, bizarre owner too that might not be a little too hands-offish.
