ericnut 02-24-2009, 09:16 PM Next season we should make a run at the cup.
Kunitz - Getzlaf - Perry
Ryan - Ebbett - Selanne
Carter - Pahlsson - x
x - x - Parros
Niedermayer - Beachemin
Pronger - Montador
x - x
Giguere
Hiller
We will save a bunch of money on Morrison, Marchant, and R. Niedermayer.
I would be very happy with that defensive group.
Davey Duck 02-24-2009, 09:21 PM So, basically the same team as right now + Beauchemin could win a Cup? Amazing conclusion.
Paul4587 02-24-2009, 09:34 PM Did you come to this conclusion before or after you came to the conclusion that Sundin would sign for Anaheim?? What about the conclusion you came to where you had Pahlssons line outscoring the Stars top line last playoffs?
muskiefish 02-24-2009, 09:46 PM I sit just me or is Ericnut a F*&^in idoit? who says that Pronger, Selanne or either Niedermyer will be back???? I'd take em all but they may be traded/UFA/retired.
bradycook14 02-24-2009, 09:51 PM ebbett,second line center, Lets make a run...................farce
kenabnrmal 02-24-2009, 09:58 PM Never thought I'd be sticking up for ericnut, but he's not far off here at all.
The strengths of the current team is still intact. The top two lines are quite good. The key is in the "x's"...there needs to be a few sage, solid additions.

Um, he's speculating. No one is "saying" anything.
You're a curious one, aren't you.
I'd be happy with a core group like that too, however it all depends on who those x's turn out to be.
kenabnrmal 02-24-2009, 10:03 PM ebbett,second line center, Lets make a run...................farce
He's currently on pace for a 50-60 point season, and that's with quite a few games with very limited ice time and a limited role. He looks like a good fit. That's the important things...putting players in roles where they can succeed. He looks like he may be able to succeed there.
hockeydemon05 02-24-2009, 10:06 PM I agree with Eric on this one. This core is great, maybe an upgrade a second line center (even though Ebbet is holding his own), hoping for some passion and this team has another cup run in them.
justheducks 02-24-2009, 10:30 PM I would like to see this team...
Ryan- Getz- Perry
Kunitz- Koivu- Teemu
Moen- Pahlsson- Carter
Parros- Marchant- Brown
D
Niedermayer- Beauchemin
Pronger- Montador
Brookbank- Smid
Huskins
If Pronger or Niedermayer wont be back on D, I would expect to see Jay B. filled in or another solid top 4 D-man via trade.
If we can get Marchant back for around 1.1 million a season and Brown back for 600k I love that 4th line. Mike Brown has impressed me this season a ton since coming over from Van.
Signing Koivu to play with his good bud and fellow countrymen during the Olympics could be enough to get him to Anaheim. I say around 3.5 to 4 million could get it done. The chemistry would probably be very good between the two as well.
Pepper 02-25-2009, 12:08 AM Did we really need a new thread for this "conclusion"??
snarktacular 02-25-2009, 12:19 AM I've come to a conclusion that some people are attention whores.
I don't think the team will be a contender until they replace at least one core guy. I see a team missing the hunger and drive. Until they get at least one key leader type who does have it, they will continue to underachieve. I think at least one of the top 6 or top 4 has to be gone and replaced with someone else.
Static 02-25-2009, 01:17 AM They need defensive depth badly, that is where Anaheim is getting killed right now. The current dmen are getting beat around edges and cannot break the zone cleanly.
Tfighter 02-25-2009, 02:36 PM I don't think this team with basically the same roster for next year is going to cut it. Sure, it may look good on paper but the way i see the team now, i think the results will be the same as this year but with the players being a year older. The team plays uninspired and lacks the energy as of before. A quick rebulid with more youthful energy, combined with the core of Getlaf, Perry, & Ryan, might still take the Ducks to the playoffs next year.
Buck Naked 02-25-2009, 03:42 PM The Ducks are going to be forced to cut salary next season, it's not going to happen.

R. Niedermayer, Marchant, and Morrison...
Buck Naked 02-25-2009, 04:25 PM R. Niedermayer, Marchant, and Morrison...
Ok, try making a team with a payroll of 45-50 Million that involves Pronger, Nieds and Giggy all on the team.
Even if Nieds signs for a discount of 5 mil, thats over 31 million tied up in just Giggy, Nieds, Pronger, Getz, Perry and Kunitz. Not to mention, Beauch is going to get at least 3 million and Pahlsson will likely also get 3 million.
Sojourn 02-25-2009, 05:07 PM Right now there are a lot of people who seem to think that Niedermayer will stick around for at least one more season, and possibly even that he's told Murray of that interest recently. If this is the case, I really don't expect to see Pronger in an Anaheim uniform this season.
Again, if we're going by the assumption Niedermayer is sticking around, I would expect Pronger to be moved on, or just before, draft day. This makes more sense to me than the trade deadline (unless Murray gets an awesome offer) because more teams would be involved. If Anaheim is looking to move Pronger at the trade deadline it is because they are completely out of the playoff picture. That means they might get some lucrative offers, but it also means that the teams most interested in him are going to be teams in the playoff picture. If Anaheim waits until after the playoffs, the number of teams interested in him goes up. Now it's not just playoff teams, but any team who wants (and can afford) a defenseman of Pronger's caliber.

Duckstudd269 02-25-2009, 10:54 PM please for the love of god, do not put Montador in the top 4.
